Kanye West is the latest musician to say completely ridiculous, completely hilarious things in a deposition. (If you don’t remember Justin Bieber’s—in which he accidentally says he has been detrimental to his own career—now’s a good time to revisit it.)

West is facing charges for assaulting a photographer earlier this yearTMZ obtained a transcript of the rapper’s deposition, which includes this instantly unforgettable line: “I’m the smartest celebrity you’ve ever f–king dealt with.” To clarify: “I’m not Britney Spears.”

When the photographer’s lawyer Nate Goldberg reads aloud some lyrics—including “these n—-s got me”—from West’s anti-paparazzi song “Flashing Lights,” West interrupts to scold Goldberg for saying the n-word aloud. “It offends me because you’re a white person saying n—-.” He goes on to compare celebrities’ struggle with the Civil Rights Movement, saying, “I equate it to discrimination. I equate it to inequalities.”

So here’s what we know: West is extremely smart, is not Britney Spears, and thinks getting followed by photographers is like being discriminated against on the basis of race. And he believes celebrities are an unempowered minority: “We, as group of minorities here in L.A., as celebrities have to ban together to influence guys like this—guys trying to take the picture, guys trying to get the big win, guys trying to get the check.”

Kanye West, the leader of the Equal Rights for Celebrities Movement, ladies and gentlemen.
