See a teaser clip of the video for Taylor Swift's 'Hunger Games' song 'Safe and Sound'

Back in December, faithful tributes got a first listen to Taylor Swift and the Civil Wars’ Hunger Games track “Safe and Sound.” Last month, the trio performed the haunting love song at the Ryman. And just yesterday, Lionsgate unveiled the cover of the upcoming blockbuster soundtrack.

All that’s left now for eager T-Swift and Hunger Games fans is an official music video, and thanks to MTV, which will premiere the video and feature a 30-minute interview with Swift on Monday, you can now watch a blink-and-you-might-miss-it scene from the upcoming clip.

Taylor Swift joins 'Les Miserables': Will her star power motivate you to go to the movies?

Was yesterday a casting fairy tale for Taylor Swift? It was reported yesterday that the country-pop superstar is likely to play Éponine in the big-screen musical adaptation of Les Misérables.

So far, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Helena Bonham Carter are all signed on, and Amanda Seyfried is in talks to play Cosette. More than any of the other casting choices, though, Swift’s inclusion changes the dynamic of Les Mis and begs the question: Will the fan base of a bankable artist like her have any impact on ticket sales? Mark Wahlberg wants to make Justin Bieber a movie star

Mark Wahlberg would really prefer the world not remember him for inspiring sweet sensations at the dawn of his career. Remarkably, he has mostly accomplished that feat over the past decade and a half — carving out a major career for himself as an actor (though he’d probably rather be thought of as Mickey Ward than the guy who figures out that plants are killing people).

Apparently, Wahlberg sees a similar future for Justin Bieber. In a recent conversation with MTV about his upcoming movie Contraband (whose trailer looks like one of the fake ones that runs before Tropic Thunder), Wahlberg talked about casting Bieber in a dramatic role in a future film that has something to do with basketball. The artist formerly known as Marky Mark says that he sees something in the Canadian pop pinup that let him know he can handle a dramatic role.

“I’m pretty intuitive,” Wahlberg explained. “I see the guy and spent time with him, and you see what he does and how he does it, and then you actually have a conversation with him, and it’s there.”

Wahlberg may have a point. READ FULL STORY »

Anticipation for the upcoming film adaptation of The Hunger Games has been steadily building all year, from the casting announcements through the early production photos, from the preview of the preview to the full-length trailer. Now, just in time for Christmas, there’s one more delectable Hunger Games accessory to chew on: In the wee small hours of the morning, teen sensation Taylor Swift announced via Twitter the release of her contribution to the Hunger Games. The song — currently available exclusively through iTunes — is called “Safe and Sound,” and it’s actually a collaboration between Swift, alt-folk duo the Civil Wars, and Games music producer T Bone Burnett. Amy Winehouse biopic still a possibility: Family would consider supporting project which 'told the truth' -- EXCLUSIVE

A spokesperson for Mitch Winehouse has told EW that the father of the late Amy Winehouse would consider allowing his daughter’s music to be used in a biopic.

Various recent media reports had quoted Mitch Winehouse as saying he would never allow Amy’s life story to be told in a film. But Winehouse’s spokesperson claims this is inaccurate and that “Mitch and the family would entertain ideas perhaps for a film but only one they were sure would tell the truth.”

However, Mitch Winehouse has poured cold water on the reports that Lady Gaga is set to play his daughter in a biopic. “I never said Lady Gaga will play Amy,” he wrote on his Twitter page yesterday.

If Trent Reznor tweets it, it must be so: The Nine Inch Nails mastermind turned Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning film scorer announced via Twitter and NIN’s official website today that his second David Fincher film collaboration with Atticus Ross is now streaming previews of six tracks online.

We’ll let Reznor tell you himself. From his site: “For the last fourteen months Atticus and I have been hard at work on David Fincher’s ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.’ We laughed, we cried, we lost our minds and in the process made some of the most beautiful and disturbing music of our careers. The result is a sprawling three-hour opus that I am happy to announce is available for pre-order right now for as low as $11.99. The full release will be available in one week – December 9th.

“Visit iTunes here where you can immediately download Karen O’s and our version of Led Zepplin’s ‘Immigrant Song’ when you pre-order the soundtrack for $11.99.You will also be able to exclusively watch the legendary 8-minute trailer you may have heard about (no purchase necessary obviously). We scored this trailer separately from the film, BTW.”

According to an earlier tweet, the soundtrac will also be available in decidedly fancy analog form: “Working with @rob_sheridan and Neil Kellerhouse on a cool package to house the Dragon Tattoo soundtrack’s SIX vinyls.”

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo arrives in theaters on Christmas Day.

French actress Julie Delpy to direct a biopic on the life of the Clash's Joe Strummer

Actress Julie Delpy is set to direct a Joe Strummer biopic, according to Variety. The film is called The Right Profile and will focus on the Clash singer’s disappearance from the public spotlight in 1982.

While the French star of films like Before Sunrise and Broken Flowers might seem like an odd choice to helm a movie about Strummer, the actress has directed several films over the past few years, including 2009′s The Countess. Moreover, Strummer actually relocated to France while laying low in ’82, where he participated in the Paris marathon, among other things. Rather more tenuously, both Delpy and Strummer worked with director Jim Jarmusch, albeit on different projects.

Strummer, who died in 2002, was previously the subject of director Julien Temple’s 2007 documentary The Future Is Unwritten. The Right Profile is named after a track on the Clash’s classic London Calling album which itself concerned the actor Montgomery Clift. You can check out the song below: READ FULL STORY »

Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis cover Serge Gainsbourg song on new tribute album -- LISTEN

Vanessa-Paradis

Here at EW, we try not to be too envious of Johnny Depp’s status as an all-time gene pool winner.

But it does seem a tad unfair that, in addition to his acting chops, good looks, and top-notch mustache-growing capabilities, the guy can sing as well, as he proved with the 2007 movie Sweeney Todd.

Depp has returned to the recording studio to duet with his better half (and pop star in her own right) Vanessa Paradis on a version of “Ballade de Melody Nelson,” which was originally recorded  by French singer and all-round reprobate Serge Gainsbourg. The cover can be found on a new Gainsbourg tribute album called From Gainsbourg to Lulu, which also features Scarlett Johansson, Rufus Wainwright, and Iggy Pop, amongst others.

In truth, “Ballade de Melody Nelson” is actually more of a showcase for Paradis than Captain Jack, who merely interjects the occasional bit of Depp-esque mumbling here and there. But as rock star releases go, we’ve heard much much worse. Check out the tune for yourself and tell us what you think:

'The Muppets' indie-riffic soundtrack to feature Feist, Nirvana covers, and more

Smells like fleece-foam-and-fake-fur spirit! The soundtrack for the upcoming Jason Segel-helmed Muppets movie has been revealed by Billboard.com, and Kermit and friends are getting lots of help.

Amongst the contributors: Canadian songstress Feist (who provides vocals on “Life’s A Happy Song,” alongside Mickey Rooney), Flight of the Conchords star Bret McKenzie (he pens four originals), harp-fond folkie Joanna Newsom (she guests on the beloved “The Muppet Show Theme”), Andrew Bird (he takes on “The Whistling Caruso”) and human co-stars Segel, Amy Adams, and Chris Cooper.

Also on the slate? Covers of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” Cee Lo’s “Forget You” — performed by the Muppets Barbershop Quartet and a clutch of singing chickens, respectively — and several 20th-century classics in their original form: Paul Simon’s “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard,” Starship’s “We Built This City.”

Keith Richards' memoir to become a movie -- so who should play him onscreen?

Keith-Richards

Earlier this week, Keith Richards revealed that there are plans afoot to turn his bestselling autobiography Life into a movie, according to British newspaper the Telegraph. But which actor possesses the requisite rock’n'roll swagger to embody the Human Riff?

One obvious choice is, of course, Richards’ buddy Johnny Depp, whose four Keef-inspired performances in the Pirates of Caribbean quadrilogy could be regarded as one long audition tape for the project.

Depp can also play guitar, is currently at work on a documentary about the Rolling Stones legend, and has the added advantage of being one of the biggest movie stars on the planet.

But there are a number of Richards’ fellow Brits who might consider themselves in with a chance of getting the gig, from David Tennant to Jason Isaacs to Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch. And let’s not forget Robert Pattinson, another hugely famous, guitar-playing thesp — and one who has experience playing a character with mixed feelings about direct sunlight.

Who would you like to see playing Keith (and, for that matter, Mick)? Let us know in the comments below.
