Daft Punk gets 'Derezzed' in Tron Legacy video: Watch here

Daft Punk‘s latest video is a throwback to the original 1982 sci-fi classic Tron. The duo scored Tron Legacy, which hits theaters Dec. 17, and this morning released its lead video–featuring several nods to the past. As MTV notes, it opens at Flynn’s Arcade, owned by Tron‘s lead character who’s a game designer for Encom. In the video, the two play a game called “Derezzed.” There’s no game with that title in the movie. But “Derez” is a term used referring to dying in battle during a game.

Next, they begin their one-on-one fight in the game. The graphics are a fittingly a bit more video gamey than what we’ve seen in the movie’s trailer. Check it out after the jump to find out who the winner is.

Can Gwyneth Paltrow sing country live? We'll find out at this year's CMA Awards

country-strongImage Credit: Scott GarfieldGwyneth Paltrow is a woman of many talents—not to mention accents. But can she cut it when it comes to singing country in front of an audience?

That question will be answered on November 10, when the actress makes her live country music singing debut at the 44th Annual CMA Awards. The Oscar-winner will perform her new single “Country Strong,” the title track from her new film in which she plays a country star who heads out on tour after a possibly too short stint in rehab.

Country Strong also stars Leighton Meester and real-life Nashville star Tim McGraw. You can watch the trailer—which features a preview of what we can expect to hear at the CMA Awards—after the jump.

Gwyneth Paltrow's 'Country Strong' video: Watch here!

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow plays Kelly Canter, a country singer looking to revamp her career, in the aptly titled Country Strong. Today, the video for the movie’s title track hit the Internet. Featuring Paltrow, the clip is mostly shot in an abandoned warehouse with the actress’ band, while pieces from the movie are sprinkled in the gaps. Paltrow sounds good as a country singer, even if her voice isn’t strong enough to power through the entire track — on the chorus, a male vocalist backs her for some added strength. Still, this shows that if the whole acting thing ever goes South, she’s got a shot a music stardom. (If Duets didn’t prove that already.)

Give the video a look after the jump.

Justin Timberlake and David Fincher on Trent Reznor's 'Social Network' score

social-networkImage Credit: Rob Sheridan; Albert L. Ortega/PR PhotosThe Social Network doesn’t come out until tomorrow, but it’s already a chart topper—in the music world, at least. The movie’s instrumental score, written by Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and composer Atticus Ross, is currently at the number one spot on Amazon’s MP3 album chart.  Even better, it’s getting rave reviews from fans, including Social Network star Justin Timberlake.

“The score is the best part about this movie,” says Timberlake, who plays Napster co-founder Sean Parker in the film. “[It's] the most unique and dark and ominous and emotional score that I’ve heard in so long. And if [Reznor] doesn’t get some sort of accolade for that, I will think it’s a travesty.”

So how did director David Fincher get Reznor to score his movie? Turns out they have a history together. READ FULL STORY »

T.I. and wife arrested on drug charges

TIImage Credit: Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images Rapper T.I. (né Clifford Harris Jr.), 29, and his wife, Tameka Cottle, 36, were arrested last night in L.A. after police detected marijuana coming from their car at a traffic stop in West Hollywood, confirms Deputy Luis Castro of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau. Authorities subsequently searched T.I.’s car and arrested the couple for possession of a controlled substance. (Officials have so far declined to specify the drug involved.) T.I. and Cottle, who were married July 30, posted $10,000 bail and were released this morning.

T.I.’s label rep is not offering a statement at this time. UPDATE – Atlantic Records has issued the following statement: “T.I. is an important and valued member of our Atlantic family. It would
be premature to speculate about the current situation given that there is an ongoing investigation of this matter.”

The Grammy-winning rapper and sometime actor is still on probation after serving seven months in prison last year for a weapons conviction. Takers, which he also produced, is currently No. 1 at the box office. In an interview with EW earlier this week, T.I. promised to focus on his upcoming album King Uncaged now that Takers is out.

“I gave my word and I promised that after I completely gave my attention to the marketing and release of the film, once I released it to a No. 1 opening and did twenty-plus millions of dollars in box office at the debut — now, starting Monday (Aug. 30), man, I am completely consuming myself with the completion of King Uncaged,” he said.

Cottle was a member of the R&B group Xscape in the 1990s and recently starred on the reality series The Tiny and Toya Show. Cottle recently thanked her followers for their support on her Twitter account. “Jus wanted 2say thank u 2every1 dats been leaving encouraging msgs & prayers,” she tweeted. “We love u guys :) going 2bed now! So glad 2b n a nice clean bed$.”

T.I. celebrates box office success with 'Takers,' readies 'King Uncaged'

tiImage Credit: Moises De Pena/WireImage.comT.I.‘s bank heist drama Takers secured a surprise box office victory over The Last Exorcism this weekend after early reports had the horror flick on top. Today the rapper-actor, who starred in and produced Takers, is making sure everyone knows. “I just want to get the word out to people because there has been some misinterpretation and some premature accounts of us being No. 2, but nothing of the sort is anything near being the truth,” T.I. tells the Music Mix via phone. (In the final report, Takers made $20.5 million to The Last Exorcism‘s $20.4.)

T.I. is relishing Takers‘ success even more since it wasn’t a sure thing.  “I’m ambitious by nature,” he says. “I have no other choice but to expect the absolute best for myself and for my business and my endeavors.” Yet he knew that The Last Exorcism was “set in a better position to be No. 1, given that they were showing on nearly 1,000 more screens than we were. But we had a higher per-screen average.”

Now that Takers is officially No. 1, T.I. is thinking about a possible prequel (SPOILER ALERT), “giving a little more backstory on how the crew ran before [his character] Ghost had to go away.”

First, though, he’s getting serious about finishing his next album, King Uncaged, which is still awaiting a final release date. T.I. currently estimates he has “two-three more weeks’ worth of work” left winnowing down the 100-plus new songs he’s recorded for the album. “I gave my word and I promised that after I completely gave my attention to the marketing and release of the film, once I released it to a No. 1 opening and did twenty-plus millions of dollars in box office at the debut — now, starting Monday, man, I am completely consuming myself with the completion of King Uncaged,” he solemnly swears. “And I’ma get it to you, man, A.S.A.P.

Looking forward to King Uncaged? Did you see Takers? Let us know in the comments.

Cher exclusive: The superstar discusses her upcoming album

The amazing and iconic Cher is making a return to the big-screen this November in the sequin fever dream Burlesque, opposite fellow pop star Christina Aguilera. But the diva is also beginning to plot out her next album, which has her working with hitmaker Diane Warren (Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing”; Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me”). Warren also wrote one of Cher’s two big Burlesque tunes, the big power ballad “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me.”

The 64-year-old diva says that fans shouldn’t expect the same dance music heard on her 1998 album, Believe, which featured the titular blockbuster single. “It really won’t be Believe-ish,” she says. “It will be more…I don’t know how to say it. I can’t put a genre to it. It’s a little bit more real instruments, like guitars and stuff like that.” Don’t get too excited Cher fans: the singer admits she’s still very early in the recording process.

Says Cher, “I just got some of the songs and I’m just learning [them] so I’m kind of at that beginning stage where you’re taking baby steps.” Watch the full trailer for Burlesque below:

Are you excited for a new Cher album, Music Mix-ers? What kind of music would you like to hear her tackle?

Katy Perry's topless 'Rolling Stone' photo shoot: Yay or yawn?

rolling-stone-katy-perry-coverAnother day, another scantily-clad female musician on the cover of the Rolling Stone. Just as we’ve finished debating Lady Gaga’s latest nudie pics for Vanity Fair, here comes Katy Perry posing for Mark Seliger in an array of bikinis and bras and birthday suits. While her pink lingerie is no whipped-cream-gun boobie apparatus, it’s not exactly Amish, either.

Perry’s never shied away from the provocative pin-up imagery, but it was pretty apparent to me during our sit-down for this year’s Summer Music Preview that she’s a tomboy at heart, and she’s got a lot more going on upstairs than a couple nice pieces of fruit. In her RS interview, she discusses her tendency to egosurf – ”Any artist who says they don’t Google their name is a big fat liar,” she tells the mag — so you can’t say there’s a lack of self-awareness at fault. I guess it’s all part of the master branding plan. But she’s a savvy songwriter with a good handle on marketing and promotion, so why always with the sexyface instead of the smartface?

What do you think about the pictures, Mixers? Lovely and intriguing, or have your eyes started to glaze over from all the famous skin out there?

Arcade Fire's live webcast to be directed by Terry Gilliam

Aracde-Fire-Terry-GilliamImage Credit: Kevin Westenberg; Inset: Tony Lowe/PR PhotosThe Arcade Fire’s August 5 webcast from Madison Square Gardens will be directed by legendary auteur Terry Gilliam, according to the AP. The Canadian band’s show is being broadcast via Vevo.

I could point out that, given Gilliam’s rep for overseeing cinematic disasters, there is a high chance the band’s set will in fact be abandoned halfway through because of bad weather—despite MSG being an indoor venue. But as I’m a big TG fan I instead suggest you check out the clip I’ve embedded after the jump, which features a musical interlude from the director’s first movie, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and a rare onscreen utterance from the man himself.
