On the scene: Drake takes over Barclays in Brooklyn

Drake may be the greatest rapper alive.  And now we might want to crown him the hardest working man in showbiz, too. On the New York stop of his “Would You Like a Tour?” at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center last night (Oct. 28), the Toronto rapper emerged in workout-appropriate sneakers and a baby blue outfit that could’ve been a high-end take on the classic Canadian tuxedo, issued a formal introduction (“I go by the name of Aubrey Drake Graham”) and proceeded to pull out every last stop in romancing “one of the best audiences I have ever played for in my life.”

About three quarters of the way through the show, that included mounting a huge circular platform that dropped down from the ceiling and allowed him to call out section numbers in the nosebleeds, note women’s features that he liked (long legs, red hair) and chat up individuals in the crowd: “Hey, I see you in that Commes des Garçon hoodie … You! You’re clapping like you at a Miley Cyrus show …” If that soon seemed like a Borscht Belt routine (and it especially did when he described two men wearing suits as “Bernstein and Feldman over here”), the larger effort drew from the long tradition of soulmen wooing females from the stage. Rihanna's Brooklyn concert postponed because of NBA playoffs

It’s not just Chicago Bulls fans who are upset about the Brooklyn Nets forcing a seventh game of their NBA playoff series on Saturday night. Rihanna’s concert at Brooklyn’s Barclays center will now be postponed to accommodate the winner-take-all contest.

In a statement to fans, Brett Yormark, CEO of Barclays Center and the Brooklyn Nets, said, “I want to apologize to Rihanna’s fans for the inconvenience of having to reschedule her show at Barclays Center from Saturday, May 4 to Tuesday, May 7 due to Game 7 of the Brooklyn Nets-Chicago Bulls NBA Playoffs series. I want to thank Rihanna for working with us on this new date and for understanding what a Game 7 in Brooklyn means to the borough. We are looking forward to a special concert and I hope Rihanna will be our guest at Game 7.”

Tickets for Rihanna’s show will be honored on the new night, or refunds will be given.

Rolling Stones expands anniversary tour, add Brooklyn date

Are the Rolling Stones going artisanal?

After watching tickets to their four-date 50th anniversary tour sell like hotcakes, the Stones have announced that they’ll be playing an additional fifth show for fans — in Brooklyn.

According the band’s site, Mick and the boys will be playing the borough’s new Barclays Center on Dec. 8, the Saturday before their two dates at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. (The first two concerts of the band’s victory lap will take place at London’s O2 Arena.) Presale tickets for the Brooklyn show begin tomorrow at 10 a.m. EST, while general tickets will be up for grabs starting the morning of Monday, Nov. 19.

And they’re not the only Brits invading Brooklyn that month: Coldplay recently announced that they, along with Jay-Z, will be playing Barclays Center on New Year’s Eve.

Jay-Z to live-stream final Barclays show tomorrow

Had a good time reading about Jay-Z’s Barclays Center shows but wish you could see it? Hova hears you.

The rapper and partial Brooklyn Nets owner has announced plans to live-stream the final show of his historic eight-night run at his borough’s new Barclays Center tomorrow night. This online event is, unlike the impending web-only stream of the Jon Stewart-Bill O’Reilly debate, free; it’ll be hosted at Jay’s Life + Times site beginning at 9:30 p.m. Brooklyn Daylight Time.

So, what can you look forward to on Hov’s final Barclays Center night? Well, if his first Barclays Center night is any indication, expect lots of Brooklyn shout-outs, special guests, and maybe even a Biggie tribute. And, for visual reference, you can also check out Jay-Z’s preview clip below:
