Britney Spears' new album has a title and a release date

Perhaps it’s just the nature of the cycles of pop music, but doesn’t it seem like Britney Spears has been gone for a while? Her last album Femme Fatale came out in 2011, but for some reason it seems like she’s been missing in action for twice that time.

Regardless, Brit is back with a vengeance. Her new album’s first single and video “Work Bitch” has already dropped, and yesterday she revealed that the new collection, which will be out December 3, is called Britney Jean.

Before you go assuming that she’s making some sort of awesome meta-allusion to Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean,” just know that “Jean” is actually Spears’ given middle name. “It’s a personal album, and all my family, they all call me Britney Jean, it’s like a term of endearment, and I just wanted to share that with my fans,” she told London’s Capital FM yesterday.

Other details are relatively scarce, though we do know that Will.i.am is serving as executive producer and that “Work Bitch” doesn’t necessarily represent the album as a whole. “That song is a reflection of Britney moreso than the album,” Will told Billboard“The album is what the album is, but we felt that song needed to come out to keep the foundation on what Britney represents. But it shouldn’t reflect the album—an album is a body of work as a collective. If we had to pick a song like, ‘Oh, what song fits every color of the record,’ you shouldn’t do that… We felt that song represents ‘Piece of Me,’ that Britney oomph.”

Hot body? Check. Lamborghini? Check. Sippin’ martinis and lookin’ hot in bikinis? Check and check.

Britney’s back, and she’s here to work, bitch. She’s even brought some whips, gags, and sharks to the party.

Fifteen years and one day after Spears strutted down that high school hallway in “…Baby One More Time,” the pop star unveiled the new video from director Ben Mor (Katy Perry’s “Part of Me”) for her latest single “Work Bitch” on the CW’s iHeartRadioMusicFestival. Check out the full video below and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Britney Spears is bikini-clad in desert in new music video tease

Britney just may be back, bitch.

The singer has released a teaser for her video for new single, “Work Bitch,” and the sultry preview reminds viewers that Miley Cyrus isn’t the only pop star who can show some skin. “This one is basically [saying] ‘The queen is back and she’s about to show all these bitches how it’s done,'” music video director Ben Mor explained to MTV. “It’s her being really fierce and taking back her throne in a way.”

The next chapter in the Saga of Spears will be interesting to watch: The pop diva recently announced a Las Vegas residency, and her new, currently untitled eighth album will be released Dec. 3, following new albums from Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.

Britney Spears announces Las Vegas residency

Britney Spears is heading to Las Vegas.

The pop star announced a 16-date residency at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on ABC’s Good Morning America on Tuesday. “Britney: Piece of Me” will debut Dec. 27.

Spears was in the Nevada desert for the announcement with more than 1,000 fans. Some dressed like the singer’s signature schoolgirl look from her “… Baby One More Time” music video. READ FULL STORY

Britney Spears commands 'Work Bitch' on new single -- listen now

A lot has been made of the Katy Perry vs. Lady Gaga chart face-off this fall, but music fans shouldn’t count out OG pop queen Britney Spears in that fight. Spears dropped her new single “Work Bitch” on Sunday, a day earlier than planned, after a low-quality version of the song leaked online.

The will.i.am-produced song — which clocks in at a robust (for Britney) four-plus minutes — is tailor-made for the dance floor. Spears lets listeners know that, whatever they want in life, whether it be a Bugatti, a Maserati, or a hot body: “You better work, bitch.”

Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and more snatch music back after a man-heavy summer

This summer, pop music flowed like Pellegrino: Robin Thicke, Justin Timberlake, and Daft Punk immersed us in retro-R&B grooves that were effervescent, sophisticated—and only a tad more adventurous than tap water.

Come fall, though, America’s divas will step in with higher-proof stuff. Katy Perry and Lady Gaga have already poured the first two shots: After announcing release dates for their respective albums, Prism and ARTPOP, the two unleashed massive first singles within the same 24 hours. Both women vow that they’ve reinvented themselves—Perry’s determined to stay dominant following a record-breaking string of No. 1s, and Gaga is fighting back from a major case of over-the-top-itis. (So far, this mostly seems to mean they’re both wearing fewer wigs.) First, Perry delivered “Roar,” an earnest empowerment anthem with an organic feel and some well-placed winks. Then Gaga rushed out “Applause,” a relatively streamlined, club-ready rumination on fame. READ FULL STORY

Miley Cyrus names her new album 'BANGERZ,' possibly recruits Britney Spears

To promote her upcoming album, Katy Perry has been posting clever videos promising a new, streamlined persona. To promote her upcoming album, Lady Gaga posted a video in which she gets her septum pierced.

And then there’s Miley Cyrus, who just tweeted the damn title of her upcoming album.

Astute readers will notice that she is spelling that title with a Z at the end, rather than an S:

“Bangers” might work for an album made by her father, but for Miley Cyrus, only a Z will do. (Incidentally, she’s considering going the full Miley and dropping her dad’s name entirely.) READ FULL STORY

Britney Spears gets all Smurfy with 'Ooh La La' video: Watch it here

Britney-Spears-Ooh-La-La.jpg

Isn’t it every little boy’s dream to go see The Smurfs 2 and then have your mom get sucked into the screen to perform the song she recorded for the soundtrack?

If that’s the case, then consider Britney Spears’ sons’ wishes fulfilled! In the just-released video for her new single “Ooh La La” (which appears on the soundtrack to the forthcoming pun-saturated kiddie flick The Smurfs 2), Spears takes sons Sean and Jayden to the movies only to be reverse Purple Rose of Cairo‘d in order to party with Smurfette and presumably step on some tiny blue creatures by accident. (Let’s face it: Those shoes are not ideal for avoiding Smurf-flattening.)

Britney Spears talks new album, single: 'I think people will be surprised'

Yesterday, Britney Spears formally unveiled her new single “Ooh La La,” from the soundtrack to the movie The Smurfs 2 (which is a thing that is happening, for some reason).

She pulled back the curtain on the extra-Smurfy pop track on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show, and that also gave her the opportunity to reveal some details about her current music project.

Her exit from The X-Factor has allowed her to focus on a new album, her eighth. She told Seacrest she hoped to have the new collection out by the end of the year, and that her collaborators include Will.i.am and former Madonna lean-to William Orbit.

“I want to definitely take this album and have a new approach with it and make it a little different than anything I’ve ever done,” she told Seacrest. “Will has a lot of really interesting different tracks that I’ve listened to that are really cool that I haven’t actually written on yet, but there’s a lot of guitar and I think people will be surprised with this album. It’s gong to be really different.”

Courtney Love confirms cameo on Fall Out Boy album by mocking Britney Spears

Whenever rock ‘n’ roll is in trouble, you can count on Courtney Love.

Or something. In a new video posted today, Love confirmed the news of her guest appearance on Fall Out Boy’s upcoming reunion album Save Rock and Roll , but not with any ordinary press release or tweet. No, C-Love instead decided to spoof Britney Spears’ classic “It’s Britney, b—h” line (which has its own Urban Dictionary entry) by announcing, yep, “It’s Courtney, b—h in a six-second YouTube clip, which Fall Out Boy tweeted earlier today.
