U2, Britney Spears, Eminem, Justin Bieber, hundreds more throw their support behind Bob Marley-affiliated Save The Children campaign for East Africa: Learn how you can also give

Save the Children works all over the world to combat hunger, sickness and abuse among the world’s underprivileged children, and starting today they are launching a massive outreach program to aid East Africa—and dozens of the biggest music acts in the world have pledged to drum up support for the program on their Facebook pages and Twitter accounts.

Among the names: Lady Gaga, U2, Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Eminem, Avril Lavigne, Rihanna, Madonna, and Beyoncé. (If you see a star send out a message with the hash tag #beafriend, that’s them throwing their support behind STC.)

The name of the social media campaign is I’m Gonna Be Your Friend, which takes its title from a lyric in Bob Marley & the Wailers’ 1973 song “High Tide or Low Tide,” and their goal is to get in front of hundreds of millions eyes to encourage people to donate to Save the Children and help the million suffering children in Somalia and the rest of East Africa.

The proceeds from download sales of “High Tide or Low Tide” will go directly to Save the Children, and filmmaker Kevin MacDonald (director of The Last Kind of Scotland and the forthcoming Bob Marley documentary Marley) has put together a video that features footage from Somalia with “Tide” laid over it, which you can watch here:

The Music Mix Lady Gaga Monitor: The best of times and the worst of times?

Gaga-Twitpic

It’s been an eventful week for Lady Gaga. In fact, there’s so much going on that we’re bringing you a special catching-up-with-Lady-Gaga rap sheet, chronicling the good, the bad and the downright weird in the life and times of Her Ladyship.

High point: Lady Gaga appears to have casually dropped in for Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale tour stop in Atlantic City on Saturday night. Spears gave her a shout-out from the stage, and Gaga popped up above the masses to greet fans in her as-per-usual uniform of leather newsboy cap and black bustier. Watch Gaga’s cameo after the jump. Kanye West joins Nicki Minaj on stage at Britney Spears concert: Watch it here!

One of the centerpieces of Nicki Minaj’s set on this summer’s Britney Spears-hosted Femme Fatale tour has been her head-spinning verse on “Monster,” the fantastic track from Kanye West’s 2010 magnum opus My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

Of course, that song also contains verses from West, Jay-Z, and Rick Ross, so it always feels a little incomplete onstage without them.

‘Ye decided to bring some extra noise during the Femme Fatale stop last night in Uniondale, New York, storming the stage during the opening notes of “Monster” for a run through through his song-opening verse.

The crowd, as expected, went a little nutty. Check out the video of West’s guest appearance here: READ FULL STORY

Britney Spears freaks out in 'I Wanna Go' video: Watch here

Britney is tired of dumb questions, y’all.

In the video for her latest single “I Wanna Go” her response to whether she hates puppies—the fourth goofy inquiry of a press conference—is a NSFW one.

“F*** you. F*** you. F*** you,” she says while pointing at specific journalists.

“Lately people have me all tied up/ There’s a countdown waiting for me to erupt,” Spears coos on the track.

She certainly goes off in the clip, flashing a father and daughter on the street, then enjoying a police officer’s frisking a little too much. Check out the video after the jump.

Britney Spears and Nicki Minaj live in L.A. on the Femme Fatale Tour: EW's review

As I walked through L.A.’s Staples Center for Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale tour last night, the lack of parochial-school uniforms, blonde wigs, and spandex jumpsuits—the sartorial choices of Britney fans of concerts past—had me worried.

The packs of twenty-something females—with some gay men and dutiful boyfriends mixed in—here to see Britney looked to be dressed for a night out in Vegas; certainly a far cry from Gaga’s wig-happy Little Monsters and the diehard Britney fans of yore.(Eleven years ago, some babysitting money, combined with an impassioned plea to my mother, earned this former teenybopper a ticket to her unforgettable “Oops!… I Did It Again” tour.)

Mere minutes after the the singer’s first sultry utterance of “It’s Britney, bitch,” it was obvious that my first instincts were very, very wrong. She opened with a sexed-up rendition of  her single “Hold It Against Me”; singing from a Game of Thrones-esque iron chair while a gaggle of beefed up “hot cops” grinded against her.

Britney’s back, alright.  And with her slim waist, her dangerously toned legs, and most importantly her engaged, wide-eyed smile, she looked happy to be there with us—the crucial element that has been missing from so many Britney shows of late. READ FULL STORY

Billboard Music Awards: Britney Spears joins Rihanna, Beyonce runs the world, Cee Lo spins in space

Duets in the air, do you care—do you love the smell of it?  (This post is written in real time; refresh for updates.)

Rihanna’s show-opening performance of her recent no. 1 single “S&M” became an R&B—yes, Rihanna and Britney: wordplay!—production when Spears joined a white-vinyl-clad RiRi onstage in her own black vinyl naughty-bunny gear for panting, pole-dancing, and a (semi)climactic pillow fight. Also, an endearingly un-vixenish song-closing collapse into giggles. READ FULL STORY

Britney Spears' latest interview: Is that all there is?

In her Harper’s BAZAAR cover story, pop princess Britney Spears reveals that after more than a decade in the spotlight, she’s started to take control of her life.

“I’m more straightforward and I speak up more than I did before,” Spears said after being asked how motherhood has affected her career.

Saucy! It sounds like Britney’s taking charge. So what else does she have to say now that she’s come into her own as an independent, freethinking adult?

“I’m like everybody else,” Spears offered. Fierce! Defiant! A true iconoclast. She’s certainly leading by example for those young girls who look up to her: take a stand by blending into the crowd!

To be fair, the full quote is, “I’m pretty normal, you know? Like I said, the type of day I love is just like everybody else’s. I’m like everybody else.” And that was in response to the question, “What don’t people know about you?”

I can’t say the knowledge that Britney is “pretty normal” comes as much of a revelation. After all, the only controversial moment in her career (as far as things interviewers still bring up) was that kiss with Madonna eight years ago… and I think we all know which diva was the mastermind behind that publicity stunt.

As for Britney’s future, we did learn some scintillating scoop about her upcoming tour: “The tour rehearsals have been going really well. I think it will be my best show yet.”

Best. Show. Yet!

Readers, are you disappointed in Britney’s press rounds for Femme Fatale? Or do you think it’s best just to let the (pretty great) music speak for itself?

Should Britney Spears set up shop in Las Vegas? Celine Dion thinks so

Last month, Celine Dion launched her latest venture in Las Vegas, a three-year, 210-performance slate of shows at Caesars Palace called simply Celine.

It promises to be as wildly successful as her previous stint in Sin City, which saw her play around 600 shows over the course of four years, playing to over three million ticket-buyers and grossing somewhere in the neighborhood of $400 million. That buys a lot of rock shrimp at the buffet.

Now Dion wants to share the wealth; in an interview with Britain’s Daily Star, she encouraged both Britney Spears and Kylie Minogue (both of whom have been rumored to be setting up shop in the Nevada desert) to put down stakes on the Strip. READ FULL STORY
