It’s the mark of an evolving life to learn at least one new thing every day.

Today, we learned that James Franco has recorded a duet with Smokey Robinson. The two met on a plane, Robinson told Page Six, and basically said “Why the heck not?” Robinson confirmed, “It’s as simple as that. There’s no deep dark secret.” READ FULL STORY »

Carly Rae Jepsen and Owl City have a 'Good Time' in new collaboration: Hear it here

Oh, snap. Could we have a late-in-the-game contender for Song of the Summer?

“Fireflies” singer Owl City (a.k.a. Adam Young) has just released a new track with current Hot 100 queen Carly Rae Jepsen called “Good Time,” and it’s already stuck in our heads.

The song (available for digital download June 26) is a synthy, summery pop jam that would sound equally right blaring from a sandy iPod radio or out of monster speakers in a thumping dance club.

Lyrically, the song ain’t all that deep — basically the line “It’s always a good time” is repeated about 300 times, then chanted by some children, then repeated some more — but that’s okay.

With the production-friendly voices of Owl City and Jepsen, the instantly hooky chorus, and the “Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh” refrain, “Good Time” goes down easier than a frozen margarita at a beachfront tiki bar.

Ready to have a good time? Check out the track below: READ FULL STORY »

Teen idols, assemmmmble!

In a move clearly designed to make Twitter, Tumblr, and teen girls simultaneously explode, Justin Bieber has hit the studio to record a new song with Carly Rae Jepsen — and maybe One Direction too.

Two days ago, “Call Me Maybe” Jepsen told MTV News that she and Biebs collaborated on one song together when they first met in the studio. “It’s not too dance-y,” she explained. “It’s more intimate. It’s a duet.”

And yesterday, One Direction’s Niall Horan tweeted, “In the studio with our boy @justinbieber last night, it’s gona sound great!” Fellow bandmate Liam Payne corroborated the story with a tweet of his own: “Got a first listen to justin biebers new album yesterday wowww big songs!!! Its gunna be a smash… Expect the unexpected.” Bieber responded: “thanks buddy. good chillin with u guys.” READ FULL STORY »

Dr. Dre’s Aftermath imprint has two hotly anticipated albums in the works — his own 4evaNaDay-delayed Detox and newcomer Kendrick Lamar’s major-label debut. “The Recipe” combines the best of both worlds.

Lamar, the rising star of California’s buzzy Black Hippy collective, went on L.A.’s Power 106 this morning to bow the Dre-assisted track, which will serve as the lead single off his upcoming debut. (Alternately, Dre’s Detox is supposed to include a Lamar cameo, but who knows when we’ll hear that.)

Produced by Scoop Deville, the six-minute slow rider is a thoroughly West Coast affair, with the two Compton rappers highlighting what they consider to be the ingredients to Southern Cali’s greatness: “women, weed, and weather.”

Give the track a spin below and let us know if you agree with all the hype surrounding the West Coast’s post-Game comeback.
