Justin Bieber and Michael Jackson song 'Slave to the Rhythm' leaks online -- LISTEN

When Michael Jackson died in June 2009, Justin Bieber was a 15-year-old Canadian unknown who hadn’t yet released his breakout EP, November 2009’s My World. But on Friday, “Slave to the Rhythm,” an apparent duet between the two musical superstars, hit the Web, leading many to wonder where the song could have come from.

Bieber’s Twitter didn’t provide much in the way of answers, but he did tease that something big was on the way that may or not involve the King of Pop. “Excited for what is to come,” he wrote Friday. “MJ set the bar. Not only for music but for being an entertainer and how u treat the fans. Wish he was here…”

As it turns out, the song — sans Bieber — originally leaked following Jackson’s death. This new version appears to be either a remix from Bieber’s camp or a fan-made response to Bieber’s Twitter tease. Check it out for yourself below:

Taylor Swift sings 'You're So Vain' with Carly Simon -- VIDEO

Taylor Swift and Carly Simon are both blond singer-songwriters, and the comparisons don’t end there. They also get asked a certain question pretty often: Who did you write that song about? In Simon’s case, everyone wants to know the subject of “You’re So Vain,” which has been rumored to be about everyone from Mick Jagger to Warren Beatty. In Swift’s case, every love song is up for speculation.

So it’s only appropriate that Swift brought Simon out onstage Saturday night to sing “Vain” during her Red Tour stop in Foxborough, Mass. Watch the entire performance below:

Elvis Costello and the Roots collaborating on an album due in September

Throughout his career, Elvis Costello has been backed by a handful of different bands. There was the first version of the Attractions, which ended up becoming the bulk of the News (as in Huey Lewis). Then there was the more famous version of the Attractions, who played on classics like My Aim Is True.

There were the Impostors, and also the Sugarcanes. He’s released album-length collaborations with Burt Bacharach, the Brodsky Quartet, and Allen Toussaint, as well as multiple one-offs with Paul McCartney, Aimee Mann, and Billie Joe Armstrong. So why not the Roots?

In September, Costello will release Wise Up Ghost, an album recorded with the Philadelphia hip-hop stalwarts turned Jimmy Fallon late-night musical crew. Details are scarce, and the official press release about the album’s existence contained a lot of purposefully obtuse information (when asked about the album, Costello described it as “the shortest distance between here and there,” whatever that means). It’s the mark of an evolving life to learn at least one new thing every day.

Today, we learned that James Franco has recorded a duet with Smokey Robinson. The two met on a plane, Robinson told Page Six, and basically said “Why the heck not?” Robinson confirmed, “It’s as simple as that. There’s no deep dark secret.” READ FULL STORY

Carly Rae Jepsen and Owl City have a 'Good Time' in new collaboration: Hear it here

Oh, snap. Could we have a late-in-the-game contender for Song of the Summer?

“Fireflies” singer Owl City (a.k.a. Adam Young) has just released a new track with current Hot 100 queen Carly Rae Jepsen called “Good Time,” and it’s already stuck in our heads.

The song (available for digital download June 26) is a synthy, summery pop jam that would sound equally right blaring from a sandy iPod radio or out of monster speakers in a thumping dance club.

Lyrically, the song ain’t all that deep — basically the line “It’s always a good time” is repeated about 300 times, then chanted by some children, then repeated some more — but that’s okay.

With the production-friendly voices of Owl City and Jepsen, the instantly hooky chorus, and the “Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh” refrain, “Good Time” goes down easier than a frozen margarita at a beachfront tiki bar.

Ready to have a good time? Check out the track below: READ FULL STORY

Justin Bieber collaborating with Carly Rae Jepsen, possibly One Direction: A teen pop takeover?

Teen idols, assemmmmble!

In a move clearly designed to make Twitter, Tumblr, and teen girls simultaneously explode, Justin Bieber has hit the studio to record a new song with Carly Rae Jepsen — and maybe One Direction too.

Two days ago, “Call Me Maybe” Jepsen told MTV News that she and Biebs collaborated on one song together when they first met in the studio. “It’s not too dance-y,” she explained. “It’s more intimate. It’s a duet.”

And yesterday, One Direction’s Niall Horan tweeted, “In the studio with our boy @justinbieber last night, it’s gona sound great!” Fellow bandmate Liam Payne corroborated the story with a tweet of his own: “Got a first listen to justin biebers new album yesterday wowww big songs!!! Its gunna be a smash… Expect the unexpected.” Bieber responded: “thanks buddy. good chillin with u guys.” READ FULL STORY

Kendrick Lamar premieres new single 'The Recipe,' featuring Dr. Dre: Hear it here

Dr. Dre’s Aftermath imprint has two hotly anticipated albums in the works — his own 4evaNaDay-delayed Detox and newcomer Kendrick Lamar’s major-label debut. “The Recipe” combines the best of both worlds.

Lamar, the rising star of California’s buzzy Black Hippy collective, went on L.A.’s Power 106 this morning to bow the Dre-assisted track, which will serve as the lead single off his upcoming debut. (Alternately, Dre’s Detox is supposed to include a Lamar cameo, but who knows when we’ll hear that.)

Produced by Scoop Deville, the six-minute slow rider is a thoroughly West Coast affair, with the two Compton rappers highlighting what they consider to be the ingredients to Southern Cali’s greatness: “women, weed, and weather.”

Give the track a spin below and let us know if you agree with all the hype surrounding the West Coast’s post-Game comeback.
