The electronic music of French band M83 has appeared in dozens of movies, commercials and TV episodes, including ABC’s Revenge, BBC ads for the 2012 Olympics and the striking trailer for last year’s Cloud Atlas. But not until now have any of the band members written music specifically for a film. Anthony Gonzalez of M83 found his first film scoring gig in Tom Cruise-starrer Oblivion, which you can now get a sampling of — one track from the score was released online today.
The sci-fi flick is an appropriate first scoring gig for Gonzalez, given the band’s galaxy namesake and the spacey, celestial quality of their music. Gonzalez created Oblivion‘s score with TRON: Uprising composer Joseph Trapanese.
