Whoops! We've been listening to the wrong version of Mariah Carey's 'The Art of Letting Go'

Mariah-Carey.jpg

Earlier this week, Mariah Carey pulled back the curtain on her latest single, the title track from her forthcoming album The Art of Letting Go. It sounded good enough, though felt a little incomplete. And that’s because it kinda sorta was.

According to Carey, who wrote a long letter to her fans on Facebook late last night, the version of “The Art of Letting Go” that premiered was an older mix that wasn’t supposed to see the light of day. “A mistake was made by a brand new sound engineer whose only task was to press the space bar and upload the song to Facebook, while my team, and an incredible group of people from Facebook, partied while listening to the properly mixed & mastered version of ‘The Art of Letting Go’ on repeat from my iPod on my home speakers,” Carey wrote. “Clearly, I was focused on answering your questions during the Q&A. There was no reason for me to wonder if the final mix we were listening to in that room together was different than what you were listening to!”

She admitted that the difference between the old mix and the real version (which did get correctly uploaded to iTunes) isn’t major, but those small shifts matter to her. “Like I always say, I am involved with every record I make, from the inception to the completion of the song,” she wrote. “Every nuance of the beat or vocal matters to me. Even if the differences may seem slight to you, I had put time, effort and emotions into ‘The Art of Letting Go’ and the real mix is how I intended for you to hear the song.”

Give the new version a listen below and see if you can notice the differences.

Following a serious shoulder injury in July — oh, the slings! — Mariah Carey is back and getting ready for the release of her new single, the title track of her upcoming album The Art of Letting Go.

In an interview with CNN, Carey, who has spent more than half of her life in the music industry, talks about going back to her musical roots for the album, the advice she has for young girls, and the connections fans make with her music.

“I never like to be totally specific. I like people to make it about their own life experiences.” the former American Idol judge said of her songs.

The single will be released in an exclusive listening party on Carey’s Facebook page on November 11 at 11 am ET. Watch the interview below:

Ozzy Osbourne bares soul on Facebook following 18 month fall off the wagon

For the past year or so, Ozzy Osbourne has been working towards the release of the new album with his old band Black Sabbath. But according to a post on Facebook, that isn’t the only darkness Osbourne has been dealing with.

“For the last year and a half I have been drinking and taking drugs,” Osbourne wrote last night. “I was in a very dark place and was an a–hole to the people I love most, my family. However, I am happy to say that I am now 44 days sober.”

Rumors had been swirling that Ozzy was headed into a break up with his longtime wife (and manager) Sharon Osbourne, so he addressed those whispers as well. READ FULL STORY

This may not be exactly what the guys in Rage Against the Machine had in mind.

Dave Mustaine, the temperamental Megadeth frontman who was fired from Metallica in 1983, has found an unlikely target for his ire: Men’s Wearhouse. On Dec. 28, he posted a message on the band’s Facebook wall lambasting the retailer for poor service over the holidays. A gift card that he ordered for his tour manager, he says, was not delivered within the guaranteed two days.

Rihanna on Chris Brown: 'He's pretty dope'

Rihanna gets interviewed by Bravo’s Andy Cohen on Facebook Live!

Are Chris Brown and Rihanna together, or aren’t they?

Andy Cohen, host of Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, finally got an official answer to that question when he interviewed Rihanna today on Facebook through the site’s Facebook Live! streaming series.

Cohen was playing his signature word association game, “Spill the Tea,” with Ri Ri, calling out pop stars and asking her for the first word that comes to mind. After name-checking Kanye West (“genius”), Jay-Z (“even more genius”), Beyoncé (“gorgeous — a stab to my self-esteem”), Nicki Minaj (“ass”), and Eminem (“he’s the s—t”), Cohen brought up Chris Brown. “He’s pretty dope, too,” Rihanna said, laughing. “He’s kinda alright.” But when Cohen asked if the two were seeing each other, Rihanna said no, although she kept smiling.

Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong performed at Mark Zuckerberg's wedding -- where does he fall in the celebrity-wedding musical guest pantheon?

No matter who you are, Facebook founder and sandal enthusiast Mark Zuckerberg had a better weekend than you did.

First, his company’s IPO on Friday sent the value of his business over $100 billion (though it has had a rough second day on the trade floor). Then Zuckerberg surprised everybody on Saturday when he got married to longtime girlfriend Priscilla Chan. The nuptials had been in the works for months and had been kept a secret — almost all of the 100 attendees thought they were going to a surprise party for Chan in honor of her graduation from medical school.

Easily the most impressive aspect of this event was the entertainment: Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong. According to People, Zuckerberg and Armstrong have known each other for a while, and Armstrong sang as a wedding gift.

That’s certainly better than a blender, and probably one of the only things you can get a dude whose personal net worth hovers around $20 billion. It also immediately makes Armstrong the coolest wedding performer in recent memory.

There’s a proud tradition of this sort of thing, usually involving either longtime friendship between famous people or gigantic checks. Regardless of how they got there, here are some of the best and worst wedding performers we’ve come across. READ FULL STORY
