Gucci Mane jailed on assault charge

Rapper Gucci Mane was being held in jail on an assault charge after a fan told police the artist smashed a champagne bottle on his head in a downtown Atlanta nightclub.

Fulton County Jail records show that Gucci Mane, whose real name is Radric Davis, was in custody early Wednesday on a charge of aggravated assault with a weapon.

An arrest warrant was issued for the rapper after James Lettley of Fort Hood, Texas, who is a member of the military, told police Davis struck him at Harlem Nights Club on March 16. Lettley said he was hoping to get a picture with the rapper when he was attacked.

It was unclear if Davis has an attorney.

Georgia rapper Waka Flocka Flame jailed on drug, weapons charges: Depressing day for hip-hop fans continues

Waka-Flocka-FlameImage Credit: Jordin Althaus/WireImage.comWaka Flocka Flame is currently incarcerated in Henry County, Georgia, the county sherriff’s office confirms. The rapper, whose major-label debut album was released in October to positive reviews, was arrested yesterday and booked on charges including possession of marijuana (less than one ounce), possession of firearm by a convicted felon, possession of hydrocodone, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, violation of probation for driving on a suspended license, and violating Georgia’s Criminal Street Gang and Terror Prevention Act. The charges stem from a police raid on his home last month.

A preliminary hearing for those charges today set Waka Flocka Flame’s bond at $31,950. His bond has not yet been paid, but even if it is, he must remain behind bars awaiting a probation hearing on Jan. 6 (this Thursday). A rep for Waka’s label declined to comment. READ FULL STORY

Gucci Mane sent to psychiatric facility by judge

Gucci-ManeImage Credit: Ric Feld/AP ImagesA judge in the Superior Court of Georgia’s Fulton County ordered rapper Gucci Mane to a psychiatric hospital yesterday, according to court documents.

Gucci Mane was arrested in November for alleged reckless driving; the charges were soon dropped, but Gucci nonetheless faced possible revocation of his probation from a previous crime. The documents reveal that his lawyers filed a Special Plea of Mental Incompetency on Dec. 27 arguing that he is unable “to go forward and/or intelligently participate in the probation revocation hearing.” He is currently awaiting a hearing on his competency. In the meantime, the judge ordered yesterday that Gucci be transported to an Atlanta hospital identified on its website as “an 111-bed psychiatric and chemical dependency treatment facility.”

This is only the latest troubling development for Gucci Mane, who despite growing fame and critical acclaim has repeatedly run afoul of the law. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that he has been incarcerated in Fulton County “at least five times since 2005.” Gucci Mane’s label declined to comment on this story.
