Steven Tyler responds to Kid Rock's 'American Idol' slam: 'He's just jealous'

In a quote that quickly went viral, Rock told us that the Aerosmith frontman’s decision to join the judges’ table on American Idol was “the stupidest thing he’s ever done in his life. He’s a sacred American institution of rock ‘n’ roll, and he just threw it all out the window. Just stomped on it and set it on fire.”

“I think whoever’s advising him,” he continued, “we should bring back the guillotine, or whatever they call that thing. And if it was himself, he needs some serious counseling. I love him to death, but I gotta speak the truth.”

This afternoon at a Idol press conference in L.A., Tyler struck back, telling a roomful of reporters: “He’s just jealous, he’s just jealous. And he’s working his new record, so God bless him.”

Not to be outdone, his fellow judge Randy Jackson joked, “Who’s Kid Rock? Is he a singer?”

And… scene.

Kid Rock on Steven Tyler's 'American Idol' judgeship: 'I think it's the stupidest thing he's ever done'

In an interview with EW this week, Aerosmith fan Kid Rock — whose Born Free will be released November 16 — expressed his profound disappointment with Steven Tyler’s much-hyped move to the judge’s table on American Idol:

“I think it’s the stupidest thing he’s ever done in his life,” he told the magazine, in an conversation to be published next week. “He’s a sacred American institution of rock ‘n’ roll, and he just threw it all out the window. Just stomped on it and set it on fire.”

“I think whoever’s advising him,” he continued, “we should bring back the guillotine, or whatever they call that thing. And if it was himself, he needs some serious counseling. I love him to death, but I gotta speak the truth.”

Do you agree with Rock that Tyler has tarnished his legacy? Or should he step away from the decapitating blade?

Kid Rock: Jury awards $40,000 to man who says he was beaten by the 'All Summer Long' star and his entourage

kid-rockImage Credit: Clay Patrick McBrideEarlier today, a jury in suburban Atlanta awarded $40,000 to a man named Harlen Akins who claims he was beaten by Kid Rock and his entourage at a Waffle House in 2007. According to the AP, the damages are to be divided between four defendants, based on how much responsibility each was assigned. Kid Rock will pay 15 per cent.

The case resulted from a fight which took place on October 21, 2007. In March of the following year, Kid Rock pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of simple battery. Rock was not present in court to hear the the jury’s decision.

Kid Rock is hosting the 2010 CMT Music Awards, promises it will be 'awesome.' Do you agree?

kidrockImage Credit: John Sciulli/WireImage.comKid Rock — the man who brought Weezy to the CMAs and old people to their knees on the fields of Stagecoach — has conquered a fresh new corner of Nashville: He’s hosting this summer’s CMT Music Awards.

As per Mr. Rock’s Facebook page, a little after noon today: “The rumors are true – I’m hosting the CMT Awards live from Nashville on June 9th… All I can promise is I will be awesome.”

I tried to question him about this, but was told he apparently headed out on a cruise with his fans today, and didn’t have time to talk. I am starting to think that life for Kid Rock is not so bad. But with Detroit’s most famous cowboy at the helm, will the CMT Awards be, as promised, “awesome”? What do you think, Mixers?
