Courtney Love freaks out when concert-goer holds up photo of Kurt Cobain -- Watch the video here

Certain things in life are inevitable. Everybody gets sick. We all die. Andy Reid will mismanage the clock. Ron Paul will make this face. These things are so common that they should seem unremarkable, and yet every time they happen we think, “How could this possibly have happened again?”

Such is the case with Courtney Love, who turned a concert in Brazil into one of her signature freak-outs. According to multiple reports, Love began her odd outing at the SWU Festival by showing her boobs (ho-hum), then requesting some lip balm “for her herpes sore.” She continued to espouse her philosophy on the microphone, announcing her status as a gay icon and taking credit for being the inspiration for Smashing Pumpkins albums Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. (Based on the reissue of Siamese Dream we’ve been listening to, she shouldn’t be too proud of that one.)

The fireworks really got started when Love spotted a poster of her late husband Kurt Cobain in the crowd. “I don’t need to see a picture of Kurt, a–hole, and I’m going to have you f–ing removed if you keep throwing that up,” she shouted at the fan holding the poster. “I’m not Kurt. I have to live with his s—, his ghost, his kid every day. Throwing that up is stupid and rude and I’ll beat the f— out of you if you do it again. You weren’t f—ing married to him. I f—ing was! Go see the f—ing Foo Fighters and do that s—!”

Now that’s a rant! READ FULL STORY »

Pitbull countersues Lindsay Lohan for that 'Give Me Everything' lyric

Pitbull

Lindsay Lohan just can’t seem to get out of her own way. After doffing her clothes for a Playboy payout and spending a handful of hours in jail, she came out finding that she had been countersued by Pitbull in response to a defamation suit she filed against him.

Back in August, Lohan filed against Pitbull because of a lyric in his hit “Give Me Everything” that went “I got it locked up like Lindsay Lohan.” The beleaguered actress felt that it was an unjust knock against her character (even though she had already been in jail once already), saying “the lyrics, by virtue of its wide appeal, condemnation, excoriation, disparaging or defamatory statements by the defendants about the plaintiff are destined to do irreparable harm to the plaintiff.” The suit was filed in New York, which has a civil rights law protecting a person from having his or her name exploited for commercial gain.

Since the suit was filed just prior to the MTV Video Music Awards, Pitbull did the gentlemanly thing and invited Lohan to join him at the show, where he was performing the song in question. He even left her a ticket at will call.

Lohan didn’t show up, and apparently Pitbull is done playing games, as he has filed a suit of his own against Lohan. His claims that he did in fact have just cause to write that lyric (because, of course, she actually spent time in jail) and also noted that she was ineligible to file the suit in the state of New York, as she clearly lives in California (or at least does time there).

What do you think? Will everybody drop their suits and walk away friendly? And do you agree with Pitbull and believe the lyric is fair? Give us everything in the comments.

Ashanti to replace Fergie in the Black Eyed Peas? Not so fast. But we have a few ideas...

fergie

There has been quite a bit of internet talk over the past few days about the future of the Black Eyed Peas. Fergie will possibly be exiting the group to focus on family, and a few sources have whispered that R&B diva Ashanti would be taking her place as the resident lady Pea in the group.

However, a rep for the Black Eyed Peas tells EW that those rumors are categorically untrue. That’s a bummer for Ashanti, since those salad days of cooing over Ja Rule tracks are well behind her.

As for the Black Eyed Peas, their future is uncertain. It’s easy to forget that the group started out as a backpacker hip-hop trio that produced two relatively well-received albums (1998′s Behind the Front and 2000′s Bridging the Gap). However, those albums weren’t the commercial powerhouses that subsequent releases were once Fergie joined the fold for 2003′s Elephunk, which began the run of über-ubiquitous hit singles that continues through today.

So it’s probably in their best interest to have a little estrogen in the group, but with Fergie taking time off and Ashanti apparently not in the running, who could take on that all-important role? Here’s a quartet of wildly speculative ideas. READ FULL STORY »

Taylor Swift says new album is 'coming along really well' for next year. Can she possibly top 'Speak Now'?

It’s been almost exactly a year since country singer Taylor Swift dropped her last studio album, Speak Now, but the crossover superstar is already hard at work on her next one — even though she anticipates it won’t be released for another year.

Last night, while promoting the launch of her new perfume, Wonderstruck, Swift revealed that the follow-up to Speak Now is very much in the works. “I’ve written 25 songs so far, so it’s coming along really well,” Swift told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve been writing a lot, and I like to take two years to make a record. We’re at the end of year one and I still have a year left to go to write.” She added: “It’s looking really great.”  READ FULL STORY »

Rihanna falls in love, goes off the rails in her new 'We Found Love' video: Watch it here

Leaked pictures from the set of Rihanna’s “We Found Love” video last month made it seem like some the-wheat-fields-are-alive Sound of Music romp, but there is a distinct lack of raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens in the final product. Instead, it’s a Trainspotting-meets-Drugstore-Cowboy portrait of wasted youth and finding love in an apparently very pharmaceutical place.

Kelly Clarkson's 'You Love Me' leaks: Listen here!

Kelly-Clarkson

There’s still a week until Kelly Clarkson’s fifth studio album, Stronger, officially hits retailers, but here’s a little something to tide you over until then: The original American Idol diva has just dropped another song from the collection, “You Love Me,” on YouTube.

Like the other tracks from Stronger that have surfaced — “What Doesn’t Kill You (Stronger)” and “Mr. Know It All” — “You Love Me” is written from the perspective of a scorned lover. “You didn’t let me down / You didn’t tear me apart / You just opened my eyes / While breaking my heart,” Clarkson sings on the midtempo chorus, before getting to the lyrics that explain why the song is named what it is: “You just made me cry by claiming you love me, you love me, you love me.”

The whole thing is laid over driving guitar riffs, so it never gets too sad or weepy. It’s another song that’s sure to please fans — this one here is certainly very pleased with it — even if it doesn’t make a big splash on radio. Take a listen here:

Willow Smith teams up with Nicki Minaj for 'Fireball': Listen here!

Willow-Smith

Remember Willow Smith? Daughter of that guy from Wild Wild West and the singer from Wicked Wisdom? Of hair-whipping fame? After dropping her well-received first single “Whip My Hair,” Smith didn’t do anything for a while, probably because she had to prepare for a science fair or something. Then she unveiled “21st Century Girl,” which didn’t have the same kind of pop as “Whip My Hair” and didn’t receive nearly the attention of her first single. Was her journey to stardom over before it really got started?

Perhaps not. Yesterday, Smith’s third single made its way onto the radio. It’s called “Fireball,” and it’s a duet with Nicki Minaj, who certainly seems like an inspiration to Smith (at least in the hair department). Give it a spin below. READ FULL STORY »

Faith Hill to stage comeback, debut new single at CMA Awards -- EXCLUSIVE

Faith-Hill

Faith Hill hasn’t officially released a new single since 2007′s “Red Umbrella,” which went to No. 28 on Billboard’s Country Songs chart. But EW has learned exclusively that the country superstar is planning to make her long-awaited comeback by performing a new single, “Come Home,” at this year’s 45th Annual CMA Awards, which will air Nov. 9 on ABC at 8 p.m.

Virtually no details are available about the song, but in February, Hill was quoted as saying that she’d soon be in the studio working on an album of new material. Naturally, she was tight-lipped about what she was recording. “I’m not even prepared to talk about it right now,” she told Billboard at the time. “I’m right in the middle of it, so it’s really hard to describe what it is until I’m done. That’s the honest truth. I’ll be able to tell more, maybe once I come out of the studio in the spring.” READ FULL STORY »

Florence + The Machine debut trippy video for 'Shake It Out': Watch here!

Florence Welch became a bigger-than-indie darling when Florence + the Machine’s debut album Lungs burst into unlikely mainstream success, thanks in large part to enigmatic breakout single “The Dog Days Are Over.”

Can she keep up the same sort of curious energy that was so vividly on display when she played the MTV Video Music Awards in 2010?

Based on the just-premiered video for “Shake It Out,” the first official single from Florence + the Machine’s sophomore album Ceremonials, the answer is a resounding yes. In the nearly five minute technicolor blast (which you can watch below after the jump), Welch splits her time mourning and dancing her way through a stately psychedelic costume party (which can’t help but remind the world of Eyes Wide Shut, except with prettier music, and without all the strange rhythmic humping).

Of course, Welch does all of this while wearing stunning clothes. Is there a pop icon who dresses better than Welch? That one red dress is pretty magical.

Give “Shake It Out” a spin after the jump. READ FULL STORY »
