Lady Gaga performs 'Marry the Night' for first time: watch the video here

Shockingly, here’s something Lady Gaga hasn’t done before: A stripped-down performance of “Marry the Night,” from India, complete with sitar accompaniment.

The video marks Gaga’s first live performance of the song — minus her briefly singing a few stanzas in her Monster Ball HBO special — which will be her fifth single off Born This Way.   The video for “Marry the Night” is set for release sometime in the next few weeks, and the cover art has already been revealed on Gaga’s Twitter account.

She marked her first trip to India with this performance in New Dehli, telling fans, “I’ve waited a lifetime to come here tonight, and I’m very grateful. I’m so happy I get to be here and sing for all of you.”

Adele, Lady Gaga lead American Music Awards nominations

Much like the MTV Video Music Awards, the actual statuettes handed out at the American Music Awards are almost entirely beside the point.

While nobody can ever really recall who won awards seconds after they are handed out, the AMAs always provide a tremendous TV broadcast, full of performances from artists plugging high-profile fall albums. In the past few years, they have really upped the ante on the on-stage components of the show, which have made it a can’t-miss for pop music enthusiasts.

Of course, they’re still going to hand out awards too, and the usual suspects dominate the list of nominations, which just came out today: Adele, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift lead the nominations, with Rihanna, Lil Wayne, and Beyoncé all picking up multiple noms themselves.

There are a handful of interesting head-to-heads going on in the nominations, too, as former Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland and Beyoncé will compete for Soul/R&B Favorite Female Artist, and former lovers Rihanna and Chris Brown square off for Soul/R&B Album.

Check out the full list of nominations below. READ FULL STORY »

Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga duet, dance in 'The Lady Is a Tramp' video: Watch it here

Sporting blue-mermaid hair and a black lace dress that’s more classy than trampy, Lady Gaga shines bright next to chart topper Tony Bennett in the just-released video for their duet, “The Lady Is A Tramp” off Bennett’s Duets II, out now.

The in-the-studio video is basically just a behind-the-scenes version of the song, but it’s still a nice add-on.

Especially fun to watch is their playfulness with each other throughout the song; whether she’s mugging to the camera or their duet dance-break mid-video, Gaga’s theatricality definitely comes through. And you can tell Bennett is genuinely getting a kick out of her antics — listen to him chuckle throughout the vid.

The clip really gets going at 2:20, when Gaga shows off her pipes (girl can sing!) and then they have a little dance. Either Bennett is really short, or Gaga’s got some massive heels on. (I think we can safely assume the latter).

Check out the video below:

Mr. Bennett himself sums up my thoughts quite nicely as the end of the video: “Beautiful. Thank you.” He’s clearly a fan; he recently gave an interview saying that the singer “will become bigger than Elvis Presley,” and the admiration is clearly mutual — just look at the sweet kiss that closes the clip.

Music Mixers: What do you think? Are you feeling these two as a pair? And who else is hoping Gaga considers a jazz album?

Lady Gaga announces that 'Marry the Night' will be the fifth single off 'Born This Way' -- Do you think it's the best choice?

Paws up! Are you ready to dance? Last night it was announced the fifth single off Lady Gaga’s Born This Way would be fan favorite “Marry The Night.”

A release date hasn’t been set, but power piano ballad “Yoü And I“ is still in the Top 10, so it would make sense for her to wait a bit before officially putting “Marry The Night” out to radio. Then again, when has Gaga ever taken the conventional approach?

With the typical pop tracks from Born This Way already released — “Judas” and “Edge of Glory” — as well as her title anthem, it’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the album holds up on radio. Born This Way as a whole is lot less get-this-party-started than The Fame or The Fame Monster, and many tracks are more piano and electronic-driven, which doesn’t necessarily translate to Top 40.

Interestingly, “Marry The Night” was supposed to be the third single, coming out right when the album dropped in May. But Monster obsession with sneak previews of “Edge of Glory” changed Gaga’s mind.

I’m personally not crazy about the song (I was hoping the conventional-but-fun “Hair” or melodic and eerie “Bloody Mary” would make the cut), but this ode to NYC is probably her best option if she wants to release a club track.

And it may be half in German, but I still have my monster paws crossed for “Scheiße,” her high-heeled-and-blonde ode to feminism.

Take a listen to “Marry The Night” below: READ FULL STORY »

On the scene at the iHeartRadio Music Festival, day two: Lady Gaga takes over the show

Gaga

Leave it to Lady Gaga to co-opt a music festival featuring dozens of top-line pop stars and make it her own.

The Lady appeared on stage as the final performer last night at the iHeartRadio Music Festival at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and stayed on stage for well over an hour—much longer than any of the other acts. “They told me I was only allowed to play for 45 minutes,” she told the crowd. “But I think you’re all pretty drunk so you probably don’t know what time it is, do you?”

And it’s true: No one was complaining when she served up hit after hit, including “Judas,” “You and I,” “Just Dance,” and “Bad Romance,” which basically blew the roof off the arena.
