Lady Gaga lampooned in Die Antwoord video, retaliates by starting Twitter feud

Lady Gaga and South African crime-stoppers Die Antwoord have started feuding back and forth on Twitter, leading to some of the strangest insults we’ve seen this side of “fairground stripper.” It all started when Gaga asked Die Antwoord to open for her on her tour, an offer they declined. Then, the South African group premiered their wild “Fatty Boom Boom” video last Tuesday. The clip, like most of the group’s work, is outré (at least for American sensibilities), featuring colorful crotch-grabbing, naughty hyenas, prawn-birthing, and some demented LaChappellian krumpiness.

All that’s classic Die Antwoord, but what really got Gaga’s goat was seeing an impersonator aping Mother Monster herself. The actor, easily identifiable as a Lady Gaga stand-in, is featured acting afool in a number of unflattering scenes, including one in which she gives birth to a prawn. Because, you know, she’s a “prawn star.”

So, Gaga fought back the way she knows best: Twitter. “i fink u freaky but you don’t have a hit. hundred thousand tIckets sold in SA. #thatmyshit,” she tweeted.

Lady Gaga, Prince to appear on Baz Luhrmann's 'Great Gatsby' soundtrack

Baz Luhrmann’s blinged-out retelling of The Great Gatsby was going to be this year’s big Christmas movie until it got bumped into next year. But that might be for the best — since it’s apparently given the filmmaker plenty of time to nail down some major crazy names for the soundtrack.

According to actress Adelaide Clemens, there will be contributions from both Lady Gaga and Prince. “They have some new music that’s going to be added to the film,” Clemens told Indiewire during press rounds for her forthcoming movie Silent Hill Revelation 3D. “Some pretty huge artists have approached Baz and are writing songs for the film, and I don’t think Warner Bros. are going to turn down Prince and Lady Gaga knocking down your door. I don’t know if I’m allowed to say that.” READ FULL STORY

Lady Gaga rapping? Yes, but sneakily -- listen here AUDIO

In Lady Gaga’s attempt to saturate every possible form of media, it seems she’s now released a rap song. Sort of.

Yesterday her producer, DJ White Shadow, announced on Twitter that he’d made some “TRAP s—” and invited followers to rap over the beat, Spin reports. The best one, he said, would get posted, with “extra bonus points for whoever writes a song about @ladygaga.”

People had a few hours to respond with their submissions before White Shadow dropped this nugget: “In an unusual twist of fate, the winner has asked not to be announced!” Intrigue! The winning track, called “Cake,” features chopped-and-screwed vocals spitting variations on swag, money, and more swag. (Also: baked goods.)  Listen below:

Madonna zings Lady Gaga: 'Imitation is the highest form of flattery'

“I’m going to dedicate this next song … to Lady Gaga.”

Uh-oh! The last time Madonna began a sentence like that onstage, she ended up taking a catty swipe at nemesis Elton John. And as it happens, she went on to give Gaga — a noted Elton John partisan — the same treatment when dedicating the song “Masterpiece” to her at an Atlantic City concert last Saturday.

“You wanna know something? I love her,” the Material Girl said of Mother Monster. “I love her. I do love her.” But wait for it… “Imitation is the highest form of flattery.” Zing!

But Madge followed up her backhanded compliment by prophesying that “one day, very soon, we’re going to be on stage together. Just you wait. You think I’m kidding? I love Lady Gaga.”

Taylor Swift in tears, Axl gone AWOL, Britney breaking out in a rash: MTV's top exec tells EW the stories behind the wildest moments in VMA history

Last week’s MTV Video Music Awards may have suffered from disappointing ratings (this year’s viewership was only half of last year’s all-time high 12.45 million) and a dearth of big wow moments, but there’s no shortage of bonkers events to look back on in the show’s past.

In fact, we recently caught up with MTV Music Group President Van Toffler to discuss some of the wildest, wooliest, and most unforgettable water-cooler moments from the VMAs’ nearly three-decade run — and got some previously unpublished revelations on everyone from Britney Spears (did you know that she wasn’t actually Madonna’s first-kiss choice back in 2003? Or that her 2001 snake-charming had a seriously unfortunate side effect?) to Kanye’s infamous speechus interruptus. Read on (with video links in the headers, when available).

Kanye Storms the Stage and Interrupts Taylor Swift (2009)
Toffler: “There’s no way any of us could have predicted that — we didn’t orchestrate it. He came with a bottle of alcohol, so he was in a festive mood to begin with. But we all were in shock in the [production] truck when he walked up on stage and took the mic from Taylor. I remember turning to one of the producers and going, ‘Do we not have security?’ [But] we don’t put those big bulky guys on camera in front of the talent. Maybe this guy thought Kanye belonged on the stage.

I said to our line producer, ‘You need to go talk to Kanye and probably have him exit the building, and I will go deal with Taylor.’ And she was about to perform right after that break! She was a champ. I would be lying if I said she and her mom weren’t crying when I saw them, but she pulled it together. This was one of the most absurd VMA moments for me, having to talk to her and her mom, and they’re crying and upset, and this was her first time on the VMAs, and she had been used to working on country shows with polite artists. This was a little bit more chaotic than she was used to. And then I walked back behind the stage to find Beyoncé crying about the incident. Ultimately I talked to her and her dad and then went back to Taylor after her performance, and an hour later Beyoncé brought Taylor back out so she could have her moment.

It all played out okay in the end, but there was a lot of drama in between. Beyoncé had the wisdom to bring Taylor out on stage, and Taylor stayed to have her moment instead of leaving.”

Lady Gaga's new album 'ARTPOP' will be a 'multimedia experience'

Ever in a race to outdo herself, Lady Gaga has revealed that her new album ARTPOP will be “a multimedia experience.”

The singer posted the news on her website on Wednesday, promising that fans can expect to “immerse” themselves in the new album more fully than ever before thanks to a downloadable app.

ARTPOP will be released as an iPad, iPhone, mobile and computer compatible application that is completely interactive with chats, films for every song, extra music, content, Gaga-inspired games, fashion updates, magazines, and more still in the works!” she wrote.

She added that the app will be constantly updated as she finds new things to upload.

“You inspired me to create something that communicated with images, because you do, you communicate with me and each other with .gifs and pictures, and artwork, graphics all day 24/7,” she continued.

“I’m hoping you will all continue to grow together and stay connected through your creativity.”

ARTPOP will be released in early 2013.

Readers, what would you like to see on the app?

Lady Gaga's bodyguard hits a fan -- VIDEO

Memo to Lady Gaga fans: don’t approach the ARTPOP diva too quickly.

While walking through her hotel in Bucharest, Romania yesterday, an excited fan holding a pen and paper jumped toward Gaga as she was exiting the lobby. Her bodyguards weren’t happy about the sudden movement. The suits promptly slammed the man against the wall, leaving him prostrate on the floor as Gaga greeted the crowd outside.

So Gaga experts, is there a little big monster in this situation? And if so, was it the overzealous autograph seeker (who did sort of sprint into the middle of Gaga’s hallowed sphere), or the ultra-reactionary bodyguard (who was pretty much doing his job)? READ FULL STORY

Sir Elton John on Madonna: 'She looks like a f-king fairground stripper'

As sure as water is wet and as sure as there will always be an England, Elton John will always hate Madonna.

The two stars’ longtime feud was revived last night when John appeared in an interview with Australia’s Channel 7, where he proceeded to lob a bevy of nasty insults at his rival.

“She’s such a nightmare” John said of Madge. “Her career is over, I can tell you that. Her tour has been a disaster and it couldn’t happen to a bigger c—.”

But you better believe Sir Elton wasn’t done there: “And she looks like a f—ing fairground stripper.” Hey-O! Music Mix has never been to a fairground that had strippers, but we’ll go ahead and assume that that was an insult.

If you’re wondering why John’s letting loose on Madonna, he did drop a big hint: “She’s been so horrible to Gaga,” he said, referring of course to Lady Gaga — his son Zachary’s godmother.
