Madonna concert in Russia threatened, U.S. Embassy responds

Madonna has made a career out of pushing buttons and poking at hornets’ nests, but her latest piece of controversy goes far beyond flashing her naughty bits, mucking with Nazi imagery, or deflecting catty barbs from Elton John.

In the wake of Madonna’s support for imprisoned Russian punk band Pussy Riot (who are currently on trial for staging a protest and criticizing Vladimir Putin), the U.S. Embassy in Russia has encouraged fans attending Thursday’s show in St. Petersberg to be extra vigilant and alert following credible threats of violence. Madonna expresses hope for leniency toward imprisoned Russian rockers

Madonna voiced hope Monday that three feminist Russian rockers on trial for performing a “punk prayer” against Vladimir Putin will be released soon. “Obviously I believe in freedom of speech and I’m against censorship, so I hope that the judge is lenient with them and that they are freed soon,” the pop star told The Associated Press during a concert tour of Russia.

Two weeks before Putin’s return to the presidency in a March election, five members of the Pussy Riot band staged their political protest in Moscow’s main cathedral, singing “Virgin Mary, drive Putin away!”

Three of them were arrested, and have spent five months in custody on charges of hooliganism. They face up to seven years in prison if convicted. International rights groups have called them prisoners of conscience, and leading musicians have called for their release. READ FULL STORY

Sir Elton John on Madonna: 'She looks like a f-king fairground stripper'

As sure as water is wet and as sure as there will always be an England, Elton John will always hate Madonna.

The two stars’ longtime feud was revived last night when John appeared in an interview with Australia’s Channel 7, where he proceeded to lob a bevy of nasty insults at his rival.

“She’s such a nightmare” John said of Madge. “Her career is over, I can tell you that. Her tour has been a disaster and it couldn’t happen to a bigger c—.”

But you better believe Sir Elton wasn’t done there: “And she looks like a f—ing fairground stripper.” Hey-O! Music Mix has never been to a fairground that had strippers, but we’ll go ahead and assume that that was an insult.

If you’re wondering why John’s letting loose on Madonna, he did drop a big hint: “She’s been so horrible to Gaga,” he said, referring of course to Lady Gaga — his son Zachary’s godmother.

Watch Madonna 'Turn Up The Radio' -- VIDEO

Madonna’s MDNA may have a track called Girl Gone Wild,” but the video for her third single, “Turn Up The Radio,” is downright mild. It features Madonna doing what Madonna does best — namely, flirting with guys half her age — but nothing scandalous happens.

The entirety of the video is Madonna riding around in a car with a few young guys attempting to turn up the music and get the party started. But a full dance party never breaks out.

Instead, we’re mostly treated to Madonna moving back and forth in the backseat in some sort of leotard/bustier/black top contraption. I’d love to talk about something — anything — else, but one really can’t ignore the serious cleavage happening throughout her jaunt around the city. In other Madonna chest news, she flashed her breast at a concert again over the weekend. Ho hum.

Madonna facing lawsuit in France over swastika imagery

Madonna’s “Girl Gone Wild” ways are finally catching up with her.

As we reported earlier, the rampant nipple-flashing pop legend previewed a video in Tel Aviv that featured images of Marine Le Pen, the leader of France’s right-wright Front National Party, with a swastika imposed over her head. As one would imagine, Le Pen did not take kindly to it, threatening Madge by saying, “If she does that in France, we’ll be waiting for her.”

Well, guess what: Madonna did that in France, and Le Pen was waiting for her – with a lawsuit. At a show in Paris’ Stade de France, the singer indeed let the video rip in front of 70,000 concert-goers, which you can see in the video below:

Deadmau5 continues feud with Madonna, attacks David Guetta

In today’s media universe, there are two ways to get big. The first is to put your heart into your craft, work tirelessly toward promoting that art, and associate yourself with like-minded individuals who will help push and challenge you as you move forward.

Or you can just talk to a magazine and say some terrible things about people more famous than you.

In a not-at-all-surprising turn of events, international superstar and electronic head piece enthusiast deadmau5 (real, less silly name: Joel Zimmerman) spent part of his interview in the new issue of Rolling Stone talking smack about Madonna and David Guetta.

Madonna flashes nipple during Istanbul concert -- NSFW VIDEO

The fake “No Fear” tattoo on Madonna’s back bared at her Istanbul concert this weekend says it all. The 53-year-old stripped down on stage to show her right nipple and egged the crowd on during a performance of “Human Nature” from her 1995 Bedtime Stories album. Dressed in a pinstripe outfit and wearing a skimpy bra top that made the reveal a little too easy, she shrugs afterwards in the video below, as if to say, “Yes, I’m Madonna and I can do whatever I want.” Check out the (needless to say) not-safe-for-work clip from her performance after the jump.

Madonna offends French political leader with swastika imagery

Did you think Madonna, the 53-year-old grand dame of pop, had officially left scandalous concert headlines to the youngsters?

Think again. During a tour stop in Tel Aviv last Thursday, a video montage projected during “Nobody Knows Me,” an album track from 2003′s American Life, includes an image of French political leader Marine Le Pen with a swastika emblazoned on her forehead (which, in 2012, is sort of the equivalent of flashing your middle finger at the largest television audience in history). Le Pen has not taken kindly to the association, and has threatened legal action against the Material Girl.

Check out video of the montage below.

Madonna's 'Born This Way'/'Express Yourself' mashup: Peace offering, or another dig at Gaga?

Elton John. Lady Gaga. Hydrangeas. They’re all eye-catching, colorful… and, famously, the objects of Madonna’s ire. But as of Sunday, one member of that group may have been kicked off of Her Madgesty’s Enemies List.

This weekend, a camera spied Madonna during rehearsals for her upcoming world tour. It was recording as Madge finished a performance of her ’80s hit “Express Yourself” — then seamlessly segued into the chorus of Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way.” Though Gaga has claimed that she isn’t “dumb enough or moronic enough” to “have stolen a melody,” it’s tough to ignore how similar these songs sound when sung back-to-back. Album sales: Nicki Minaj scores big debut, Madonna posts record drop

The chart road divided this week for two of the three participants in this year’s Super Bowl halftime show. On the one side, Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded easily grabbed the top spot on the latest Billboard album chart, moving 253,000 copies in an extremely respectable opening week. It’s her first debut at number one, though her 2010 debut Pink Friday did find the upper plateau several months after its release thanks to the late surge of “Super Bass” in early 2011.

The success of Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded is easy to see, as Minaj went on a media blitz that included a free surprise concert in Times Square and the continued success of the single “Starships” (which currently sits at number five on the Billboard Hot 100).

That’s all good news for Minaj, whose album has been met with mixed critical reactions but seems to be capitalizing on its everything to everyone approach. The outlooks is less rosy for Madonna, whose latest album MDNA posted the single biggest second week sales decrease for a number one debut since SoundScan started tracking official sales in 1991.
