Madonna talks Super Bowl with Leno, releases 'MDNA' cover art

Madonna-MDNA

Move over, Patriots and Giants — Madonna’s making sure she’s the star of this Super Bowl week.

After revealing that a preview video for her new single “Gimme All Your Luvin,” featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., will premiere on American Idol Thursday, the halftime headliner visited Jay Leno to shore up more buzz for her big show.

“It’s the most nerve-racking thing I’ve ever done,” she told Leno. “The Super Bowl is like the Holy of Holies of America. I have to go on in the middle of that Holy of Holies and put on the greatest show that was ever put on before.”

As for what the Greatest Show That Was Ever Put On will include? “Well, for sure no nipples,” she assured. “I mean, I don’t like to repeat myself.”

She’s of course referring to her infamous performance at the 1984 MTV VMAs, during which, in her words, “the dress went up, and the underpants were showing.”

But while it looks like we won’t be getting any wardrobe malfunctions this year, we do have an idea what we will be getting from Madge, thanks to her previously leaked Super Sunday set list:

M.I.A. gears up for Super Bowl with a new(ish) single, 'Bad Girls'

mia

M.I.A. had a pretty chill 2011, but her 2012 is already starting to look sufficiently bonkers.

Not only is the artist formerly known as Maya slated to be joining Madonna and Nicki Minaj at this Sunday’s Super Bowl halftime show, but she and her co-conspirators will also see their collaboration track “Gimme All Your Luvin” premiere on American Idol this Thursday. That single, MDNA‘s first, will be properly released Friday.

But first, M.I.A. has her own single to debut. “Bad Girls” hits the streets tomorrow, but the song — reworked from her late-2010 mixtape Vicki Leekxis streaming now. Plus, this Friday she’ll unveil the new single’s video, courtesy of the director behind her controversial “Born Free” video.

In other words: there’s going to be a lot of M.I.A. on your internets this week! Consider yourself warned.

Madonna's Super Bowl performance will feature LMFAO, says will.i.am

There are only nine days left until the Super Bowl, which means the window for placing party sub orders and making dignity-sacrificing bets is swiftly closing. While the game itself will likely be relatively dull (people often forget that the last time these two teams met in the Super Bowl, it was pretty deadly for three quarters), but there is already plenty of news leaking out about the big-money commercials that will be airing and also about Madonna’s much-anticipated halftime show.

Little is known about the actual content of the show itself, though we do know that it will feature Madonna. There was a set list floating around the Internet a few weeks ago that suggested it would consist of both new tunes and classic tracks from throughout her career. (That list was never verified.) It is likely that she will be joined by both Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. for a run through their new collaboration. Another source has The Voice star Cee-Lo Green making an appearance during the show. And the whole thing will apparently be bringing both pom-poms and “the gay.”

If Green, M.I.A., and Minaj all join forces with Madonna, that will make the stage awfully crowded. But according to will.i.am, Madonna is also making room for “Sexy and I Know It” hitmakers LMFAO. READ FULL STORY

Madonna talks Lady Gaga, ‘Born This Way’ comparisons, and kissing Nicki Minaj -- VIDEO

Madonna has never shied away from expressing herself, and in a new interview for 20/20, she finally answers one of the zeitgeist-iest questions of early 2011 (Better late than never!): Was “Born This Way” a straight-up Madge rip-off?

According to reports, Madonna was at first complimentary to Gaga, praising her talent for both singing and songwriting. But you know the lady can never resist a good diva-off, and eventually she went in for the cold kill:

“There’s a lot of ways to look at it. I can’t really be annoyed by it …because, obviously, I’ve influenced her…. When I heard it ["Born This Way"] on the radio… I said that sounds very familiar.”

She then said that “Born This Way” felt “reductive,” and when asked if that was a good thing or a bad thing, Her Madgesty smiled, said “look it up,” and took a sip of her tea.

Considering that she famously likes the press about as much as she likes hydrangeas, the singer handled silly questions about her 24-year-old dancer boyfriend with aplomb: “Behind the curtain, I’m just like everybody else.”

Lady Gaga has previously praised Madonna, saying, “Madonna is a wonderful influence on me.” And Madonna, previously, has been kind right back, telling Graham Norton, “When I first saw her I was really impressed by her. She was cool.” Has the diva detente been shattered now?

You can check out a preview of the interview, where she also talks kissing Nicki Minaj, below: READ FULL STORY

Madonna fan arrested for 'Give Me All Your Luvin' leak

A Spanish man has been arrested in connection with the leak of Madonna’s forthcoming single “Give Me All Your Luvin’.” The 31-year-old Zaragozan resident’s name has not been released, though his initials have — J.M.R. — and the detail that he’s “a big Madonna fan,” according to MTV. At the time, Madonna and her manager insisted, “My true fans wouldn’t do this,” then pleaded, “Whoever is responsible for this leak, we ask that you please stop!”

Alas, they did not. Less than a month later, “Masterpiece,” the Golden Globe-nominated ballad from Madonna’s directorial effort, W.E., hit the Internet in an incident that hasn’t been linked to J.M.R. Of today’s news, Madonna’s publicist Liz Rosenberg affirmed, “Madonna takes leaks very seriously” but could not comment further on the ongoing investigation. The video for “Luvin,” which features Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., is expected to premiere early next year.

Madonna signs three-album contract with Interscope, continues comeback run

Though she inked an extremely high-profile “360” deal with Live Nation back in 2007, Madonna still needs the label system to distribute her new music. After spending the entirety of her career in the bosom of Warner Bros., she has signed on with Interscope for a three album deal. According to Billboard, she’ll earn a base of $1 million per album, starting with her next release (which is reportedly near completion and scheduled to be released some time in 2012).

That seems like a pretty paltry sum for one of the biggest icons in pop music history, though remember that she will still be collecting from her Live Nation deal through 2017 (and the fact that her Sticky & Sweet tour grossed $408 million doesn’t hurt, either).

It works out well for everybody, as Live Nation doesn’t have to muck about with the business of distributing new music, Interscope gets another marquee star for its roster for a relatively small investment, and Madonna gets a few more million dollars to cover the inevitable W.E. losses.

In fact, Madonna’s signing makes way more sense than any of the deals currently being tossed about among baseball general managers. The Angels threw $254 million for 10 years of service from first baseman Albert Pujols, somehow expecting that he’ll provide $25 million in service when he’s 40 years old (since statistically he’s already on the decline).

Assuming she takes three years between albums, Madonna will be 60 when she releases the final album under her Interscope contract. While that sounds somewhat problematic in a vacuum, Madonna has been an innovator and a shape-shifter for the entirety of her career.

Even her missteps (*cough*American Life*cough*) are pretty interesting, and though her last two albums saw her turn up the juice on the four-on-the-floor BPMs, there’s no reason to suspect she won’t keep shifting to fit both herself and the current pop market. If she keeps delivering stylistic shakeups like the recently-leaked “Masterpiece,” she should be just fine.

What do you think of Madonna’s new deal? What do you think Madonna will sound like at 60? Open your hearts to us in the comments.

Madonna debuts new song 'Masterpiece' -- and we might like it

Madonna has been off the musical radar for a while, but she’s getting an early start on her expected reign over 2012. She’s officially performing at the Super Bowl, and there’s also a new song called “Masterpiece” that is slated to be included on both her upcoming new album as well as the soundtrack to her film W.E.

The version streaming online sounds a little hollow, but overall “Masterpiece” is an uncluttered presentation that recalls the Material Girl’s outre mid-’90s period, which saw the birth of an eclectic batch of hits like “I’ll Remember” and “Take a Bow.” Both of those songs share a certain vibe with “Masterpiece,” which has the same kind of moody, direct energy and sound. Madge’s voice sounds particularly sharp, without distracting digital correction.

All in all, it’s pretty gorgeous, and quite a ways away from the four-on-the-floor club tracks that have littered her previous two albums Hard Candy and Confessions on a Dance Floor. Give “Masterpiece” a spin here.

It's official: Madonna to perform at Super Bowl half-time show

Confirming a not-so-well-kept secret, the NFL and NBC announced today during tonight’s Detroit Lions-New Orleans Saints game that Madonna will indeed be the featured performer at the Super Bowl XLVI half-time show on Feb. 5 in Indianapolis.

The 53-year-old Material Girl — whose romantic drama W.E. just happens to be hitting theaters two days before the game — will collaborate with Cirque du Soleil and Jamie King for the big gig. She is currently recording an album that’s slated to be released in 2012.

The Black Eyed Peas performed at last year’s Super Bowl, while the Who headlined the 2010 half-time show. The news of Madonna taking on the biggest night in television had been rumored since October.

Madonna enlists Nicki Minaj, M.I.A. for next album

M.I.A. confirmed via Twitter over the weekend that she and Nicki Minaj will guest on Madonna’s next album: “summond to NYC by bitchesses > MADONNA and @NICKIMINAJ> cofffffiiiiiiieeeeeeeeee it iz a good day to get me tho trustttt bitches.”

Rumors have been swirling about the possible triple threat for several weeks, but no one was certain until Saturday. The powerhouse lady rappers are said to be recording rhymes for Madonna’s “Give Me All Your Love,” which leaked online to mixed reception earlier this month.

Madonna is currently wrapping production on the so-far-untitled album — due next spring — and promoting her film W.E., which premieres two days before she is expected to perform at Super Bowl XLVI.

Madonna's 'Give Me All Your Luvin' leaks, is unlikely to get what it demands -- LISTEN

Madonna’s single “Give Me All Your Luvin” leaked yesterday, and perhaps to diehard fans it sounds like synthed-up angels singing hallelujahs.

For many of us though, it’s more like the musical equivalent of a bouquet of hydrangeas. Madonna and manager Guy Oseary quickly responded that the leak was merely a demo and that completed versions of her new tracks won’t be released officially until the new year. That said, if this is the musical direction, Madonna is taking, it’s not a good omen. Hear the track — and our take on it — here: READ FULL STORY
