'Glee' star Matthew Morrison and 'American Idol' winner Kris Allen talk collaborating on new single, 'Still Got Tonight'

The worlds of two of Fox’s musical giants are colliding: Glee‘s Matthew Morrison and American Idol season 8 winner Kris Allen have collaborated on Morrison’s second single, “Still Got Tonight,” off Morrison’s solo album due May 10.

So how did these two superstars get together? Call it a happy accident. Allen originally wrote “Still Got Tonight” years ago, with songwriters Andrew Frampton and Steve Kipner, but ended up not using the track. Morrison then wound up working with Frampton and Kipner on his upcoming album and they brought the song to the Glee star. But Morrison didn’t realize that Allen was also involved in the song’s creation.  READ FULL STORY

Matthew Morrison unveils Elton John duet

You can’t hide from Matthew Morrison these days. He’s on Glee. He’s on talk shows. He’s live in concert. He’s on record. And now he’s in an Elton John song sandwich.

Morrison just dropped his duet with John, which mashes up “Rocket Man” and “Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters” into one blast of classic Elton; listen here. (The song will be available for download on Amazon tomorrow).

Morrison’s clean tenor pairs well with the Rocket Man’s, though his pipes lack the signature oomph of Elton’s elastic instrument.

Plus, “Rocket” has been covered to death, and Morrison’s version lacks the strangeness of William Shatner’s, the spookiness of Maynard James Keenan’s, or the meta-hilarity of Stewie Griffin’s.

What do you think, readers? Tell us in the comments below.

Hear Matthew Morrison and Gwyneth Paltrow duet on 'Over the Rainbow' -- EXCLUSIVE

EW was the first to tell you about Matthew Morrison’s duet with his Glee co-star Gwyneth Paltrow for Morrison’s upcoming album.

Now we can offer you a sneak peak at the results with this exclusive taste of their collaboration on the classic, “Over the Rainbow.” The tune has become somewhat of a staple for Morrison as he performed it during his Glee audition and has also tackled it on the series.

Paltrow, meanwhile, is reportedly working on her own record deal and will be back as Holly Holliday on Glee‘s April 19th episode. The pair’s “Over the Rainbow” will be available to download tomorrow on iTunes and Morrison’s album is scheduled for release on May 10 (you can find the dates for his summer tour here).

Matthew Morrison announces tour dates, details, and his surprise opening act(s)

Hot for teacher? Then you’ll be happy to hear that Matthew Morrison—a.k.a. Glee‘s Mr. Schuester—has announced the dates for his summer tour. Morrison will be performing songs from his upcoming, self-titled album as well as covers he first performed on the show.

In lieu of one consistent opening act, the tour, along with VH1′s Save the Music foundation, will give local school glee clubs the chance to compete to be Morrison’s opener. If you think your group has what it takes, you can enter the contest at Morrison’s website, starting April 8.

Additionally, Morrison is teaming up with Friday Or Die Funny Or Die to create video content for the tour; if the clips are anything like “Nuthin’ But a Glee Thing,” we’ll be pleased. Here are the tour dates themselves: READ FULL STORY

Matthew Morrison and Gwyneth Paltrow to duet on his upcoming album -- EXCLUSIVE

Matthew Morrison and Gwyneth Paltrow have already proven they have great onscreen chemistry as lovestruck teachers Will Schuester and Holly Holliday on Glee. (The actress pops up again on the April 19 episode.) Now the pair are hoping that energy translates to the recording studio. EW has learned exclusively that Morrison and the Country Strong star will duet on his self-titled adult-contemporary album, scheduled to drop this May 10. Morrison asked Paltrow to sing on the album during her work on Glee, but admits the conversation was slightly awkward. “The hardest part of doing this album was asking these people favors, like Elton [John] and her,” says the actor. “I’m so not that guy.” Luckily, choosing the song for their collaboration was much easier. The pair will be covering a tune very familiar to Morrison and his Glee fans: the classic “Over the Rainbow.” The actor auditioned for Glee with the song and performed it on the series’ season 1 finale. “People kind of know me for that song now,” says Morrison. “I wanted to do a duet with a female. I thought that was a good song to do, and we really did a different arrangement of it. It’s a lot of strings, and it’s beautiful.”

'Glee': Hear Matthew Morrison's new single, 'Summer Rain'

Mr. Schuester is gettin’ freaky up in here.

Glee star Matthew Morrison debuted his new single from his upcoming album on the Ryan Seacrest show this morning and it’s all about having sex in the rain on a rooftop! Dude has come a long way from “One Less Bell to Answer!”

This ode to a very R-rated public display of affection has a sort of Jason Mraz-y sound to it. Frankly, I just can’t wait for the video (I’m assuming there will be gratuitous shirtless shots of Morrison). Listen to the tune below: READ FULL STORY

Grammy Awards 2011: Backstage with Justin Bieber, Usher, Esperanza Spalding, Matthew Morrison, and many more

esparanza-spaldingImage Credit: Kevork Djansezian/Getty ImagesAs you might imagine, backstage at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards is a press feeding frenzy, with golden gramophone winners — and even some presenters — parading behind-the-scenes to various media outlets to take their questions and revel in the celebratory mood of the evening. The bold-faced names trek from the radio press to TV shows like Extra and — you guessed it — even us here in the print and online world. I resided backstage for the show and waited for folks like Esperanza Spalding, Usher, Justin Bieber, Train, and Matthew Morrison to come and bask with the reporters for a bit. Here’s what minute-by-minute account of what transpired:

6:15 P.M. PT: The band Train, winners for Best Pop Performance By a Duo or Group with Vocals for their smash single “Hey, Soul Sister,” are both the first winners of the evening and the first winners to come backstage for the evening. The first question for the group is about their surprising comeback last year with “Soul Sister.” “We’ve been through a lot, and to be here after so many years, it’s such an honor to be nominated,” says vocalist Patrick Monahan. “This was a beautiful comeback nomination. We feel we have many more albums to come that are going to be better. To have won this makes up for things that didn’t even exist.”

'Glee' star Matthew Morrison to tour this Spring

Glee star Matthew Morrison, aka Mr. Schuester, is finishing up his solo album and is preparing for a tour once the hit Fox series wraps its second season. “I’m going to be touring in the hiatus,” Morrison tells EW.  “I’m gonna go all over the world actually. I start band rehearsal in two weeks when we go on our little Christmas break.” Morrison won’t be the only Glee star performing for audiences: the younger cast will recreate their very successful concert show in the UK and Ireland. Meanwhile, Morrison says that his album, due in May according to the actor, is just about finished. “We’re almost done,” he admits. “We have like two more songs to record and then it’s off to the mixing stages. I’m really really happy with it and I can’t wait for people to hear it as well.”
