TV Jukebox: 'Portlandia,' 'The Walking Dead,' 'Awake' and more music-on-TV moments

Canoe dancing, cocaine overdoses, and car crashes were just some of TV’s strange scenarios made momentous by music these past two weeks. As some shows concluded their seasons, and others just got started, we found “show tunes” from past Jukebox favorites A Gifted Man, Parenthood, Cougar Town, Hawaii Five-0, The Lying Game, and New Girl, plus new entries from Eastbound and DownJustified, Portlandia, Jane By Design, The Walking DeadAwake, and the British version of Being Human. Check out our picks below. (Warning for those still catching up on DVR: SPOILERS ahead!) READ FULL STORY

TV Jukebox: 'American Idol,' 'Smash,' 'Cougar Town,' and more music-on-TV moments

Rainy days and Mondays may have gotten Karen Carpenter down, but the rain washes away old heartbreaks for at least a couple of our favorite characters in this latest TV Jukebox.

A pathetic fallacy of a rainstorm made for a new lease on love in this week’s How I Met Your Mother, and a downpour was key to an impromptu proposal on Parenthood — though, thankfully, not on Cougar Town; otherwise they’d still be cleaning up the wet toilet paper!

Elsewhere, crazy dreams came true on Smash and American Idol, paint went splat for science’s sake on CSI, and sexytimes abounded on Nikita and Being Human. That’s without mentioning the “show tunes” from Glee, House of Lies, Private Practice, Body of ProofFringeand Hart of Dixie. Click through to see our picks. TV Jukebox: 'Parks and Recreation,' 'Grimm,' 'Parenthood' feature our favorite songs on TV this week

As we kept our ears perked up for this week’s best show tunes, we saw a trend: Family. In fact, we had a TV Jukebox first, with songs from both British folksters Richard and Linda Thompson and also their son Teddy.

As the Thompsons would know as well as anyone, family can take you on a crazy ride. This week’s music expressed that poetically and, at times, hilariously. From letdowns to glorious build-ups, harboring dark secrets and sweet memories, and encompassing Irish oddballs and naked roommates (see: New Girl), family takes all kinds. See this week’s picks below:  READ FULL STORY
