Billboard Music Awards: The three most memorable performances from last night

Last night’s Billboard Music Awards featured all sorts of great moments — at least, if you’re not Justin Bieber.

And while the Biebs getting booed may have been the highlight for more than a few schadenfreuders, there were plenty of other water-cooler moments, including Miguel’s accidental pro-wrestling body slam on a fan (don’t worry, she’s recovering), Taylor Swift’s insanely coordinated rendition of “22,” and Pitbull and Christina Aguilera going back to the source of the infamous ’80s sample in their “Feel This Moment.” (We’d love to show you an Afro’d Prince doing “Let’s Go Crazy,” but the Purple One does not allow his performance footage to live on the internets.)

And then, of course, there was EW cover boy Bruno Mars, who put on a reliably dazzling show, opening the broadcast with his newest single, “Treasure” and a whole lot of red satin. Click after the jump for clips of the night’s most memorable moments:

Paris Hilton, Lil Wayne compete with Pitbull for 'Last Night': Hear it here

Sharing is caring!

As you may know, Pitbull put out his new album Global Warming today. On it is an Afrojack-produced track featuring Havana Brown called “Last Night.” As we noted in our review, we think it’s a good song — but Paris Hilton and Lil Wayne already knew that.

Today, the pair have released their version of the song, also titled “Last Night.” It’s pretty much a facsimile of the Global Warming song, proving that its producer has lots of love to spread around. That Afrojack guy, what a mensch!

Listen to each version in the videos below and let us know which you like better.

Jennifer Lopez’s “Dance Again” video: ‘Inception’ orgy in a perfume bottle?

jennifer-lopez-2

The video for J. Lo’s newest sweaty, synthy club-banging pop anthem premiered last night on American Idol, and although the song is relatively harmless and catchy, the video is…confusing.

A stream of vodka flowing in zero gravity alerts us at the beginning that this isn’t your madre‘s J.Lo video — a fact further validated when she starts going at it with her tattooed paramour in a zero-gravity hotel corridor.

Whether it’s Lopez dancing like a glittering Latina Silver Surfer or the dramatic St. Elsewhere-like twist at the end (did we mention that the entire thing takes place inside a perfume bottle? Because it does), the video for “Dance Again” is something worth checking out, even if you’re not a Lopez fan. READ FULL STORY »

Jennifer Lopez once again joins forces with Pitbull for new single 'Dance Again': Hear it here!

This season of American Idol has been weak on water cooler moments and breakout performances.

The biggest newsmakers are still the people sitting behind the judges’ table: Steven Tyler just announced that a new album and tour from his band Aerosmith, and now Jennifer Lopez has dropped a new single called “Dance Again.”

Lopez (who totally didn’t flash any of her naughty bits during the Oscar telecast) got her great career resurrection last summer with the single “On the Floor,” featuring a guest verse from Pitbull and production by RedOne. Clearly operating in the “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” idiom, Lopez once again sings over a buttery disco groove with an assist from Miami’s favorite bilingual MC.

Pitbull drops 'Men In Black' soundtrack tune 'Back in Time': Hear it here

pitbull-blog

The summer of 1997 was pretty much ruled by Will Smith. The original Men in Black was a gigantic box office hit (it was the second-highest grossing film of ’97, behind a little flick called Titanic), and the Fresh Prince’s soundtrack tune “Men in Black” was ubiquitous on MTV and radio (it never charted on the Hot 100 because it was actually never released as a commercial single, but it dominated the Airplay chart all summer).

Five years later, Men In Black II hit theater screens, and Smith dropped another movie-centric single in “Black Suits Comin’ (Nod Ya Head).” Neither the film nor the single were as adored as the first versions, though both still did well.

Perhaps sensing his grip slipping, Smith has handed off the soundtrack duties on the forthcoming Men in Black III to Pitbull, who delivered “Back in Time” yesterday. It’s a song that plays on the new film’s time travel plot, and no, it is not just a cover of Huey Lewis & the News’ song from Back to the Future (though that would have been both ballsy and awesome).

Instead, it’s Pitbull speed-rapping over a sample of Mickey & Sylvia’s “Love Is Strange,” which you’ll recognize from yet another film soundtrack. Give it a spin below. READ FULL STORY »

Pitbull and Chris Brown take the party to the sky in new video for 'International Love'

RSVP to Pitbull’s party in the sky. The passported rapper, continuing his quest for world domination by 2012, has released another video, this time for his song “International Love” featuring Chris Brown.

The extra-planetary party — buildings can’t hold these guys down! — is a greenscreen orgy in the sky, complete with women, dance moves, and some oddly placed all-American body paint (at 3:20). I kept expecting a surprise Katy-Perry-circa-”E.T.” cameo.

I think my favorite part may be the repeated glare-downs over the glasses that both Pitbull and Chris “Too Cool for Gravity” Brown repeatedly rock.

Did we need further evidence that this has been Adele’s year sales-wise? Probably not. But for the benefit of anyone still debating the matter, iTunes has just announced that the British singer’s track “Rolling in the Deep” was the year’s top downloaded song while its parent album, 21, was 2011′s most popular collection. iTunes also named Adele its Artist of the Year.

21 was followed on the album list by Mumford & Sons’ Sigh No More and Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV. LMFAO claimed second place on the singles list with “Party Rock Anthem” while Katy Perry’s “Firework” was third.

Pitbull countersues Lindsay Lohan for that 'Give Me Everything' lyric

Pitbull

Lindsay Lohan just can’t seem to get out of her own way. After doffing her clothes for a Playboy payout and spending a handful of hours in jail, she came out finding that she had been countersued by Pitbull in response to a defamation suit she filed against him.

Back in August, Lohan filed against Pitbull because of a lyric in his hit “Give Me Everything” that went “I got it locked up like Lindsay Lohan.” The beleaguered actress felt that it was an unjust knock against her character (even though she had already been in jail once already), saying “the lyrics, by virtue of its wide appeal, condemnation, excoriation, disparaging or defamatory statements by the defendants about the plaintiff are destined to do irreparable harm to the plaintiff.” The suit was filed in New York, which has a civil rights law protecting a person from having his or her name exploited for commercial gain.

Since the suit was filed just prior to the MTV Video Music Awards, Pitbull did the gentlemanly thing and invited Lohan to join him at the show, where he was performing the song in question. He even left her a ticket at will call.

Lohan didn’t show up, and apparently Pitbull is done playing games, as he has filed a suit of his own against Lohan. His claims that he did in fact have just cause to write that lyric (because, of course, she actually spent time in jail) and also noted that she was ineligible to file the suit in the state of New York, as she clearly lives in California (or at least does time there).

What do you think? Will everybody drop their suits and walk away friendly? And do you agree with Pitbull and believe the lyric is fair? Give us everything in the comments.

Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that RCA Records has folded J Records, Arista Records, and Jive into parent label, RCA. The label issued a statement to EW explaining that the move was “an effort to refresh RCA Records,” and “all label imprints (J Records, Arista Records and Jive) will now be under the the iconic RCA Records label.” Among the artists who will be affected by the change are Jive tentpoles (Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake), singers from Arista (Alicia Keys, Pink, Usher), and J Records acts, including Pitbull.
