F. Scott Fitzgerald and Fergie, together at last: the Black Eyed Peas member, aided by Q-Tip and GoonRock, contributed a song to the Jay-Z-produced soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming The Great Gatsby adaptation.
Of course, Luhrmann’s movies have a memorable musical history, full of quality original tracks like Radiohead’s “Exit Music (For a Film)” (written for Romeo + Juliet) and Moulin Rouge‘s chart-topping “Lady Marmalade” from Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Pink, and Missy Elliott.
But does the genre-hopping, Fergie-led “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)” stand up to its predecessors? We’re not so sure. It doesn’t help that Ferg’s titular sentiment doesn’t quite mesh with the message of, you know, The Great Gatsby, but perhaps the song is meant to foreshadow the downfall at novel’s end.
