Rick Ross says uproar over 'U.O.E.N.O.' lyrics a 'misunderstanding'

Rick-Ross.jpg

Rapper Rick Ross says critics have misinterpreted his lyrics on Rocko’s “U.O.E.N.O.” after uproar from women’s advocacy groups.

Ross raps about giving a woman the drug MDMA, known as Molly, and having his way with a woman in the song, “and she ain’t even know it.”

Although the song was released in January, the lyrics gained widespread notice last week when women’s groups began to complain. Petitions were issued, including one asking Reebok to withdraw its advertising agreement with Ross.

The Miami-based rapper said in an interview on New Orleans’ Q93.3 that “there was a misunderstanding with the lyric, a misinterpretation.” He says the term “rape” was never used and it’s not something condoned by him, his camp or hip-hop in general.

Messages to Ross’ publicist weren’t returned.

Rick Ross gets shamed for his date-rape 'U.O.E.N.O' lyrics

Rick-Ross.jpg

What do former Republican politician Todd Akin and current Miami rapper Rick Ross have in common? Rape flubs, apparently.

Maybach Music mogul Ross is currently drowning in a torrent of negative press thanks to his date-rapey lyrics on the track “U.O.E.N.O.,” which was released on a mixtape from rapper Rocko back in February. The ill-advised portion of the song in question go a little something like this:

Rick Ross, Jay-Z, and Dr. Dre sued over '3 Kings'

Rick-Ross

Poor Rick Ross. This week, somebody filled one of his cars with bullet holes, and now a pair of songwriters are taking aim at his wallet.

Ross, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, producer Jake One, and Universal Music Group (the company that houses Ross’ label) have all collectively been sued by Clara Shepherd Warrick and Jimmy Lee Weary, the pair of songwriters responsible for 1976’s “I’m So Grateful (Keep In Touch).” Why would they file such a suit? Because according to papers filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the parties responsible for the God Forgives, I Don’t single “3 Kings” did not properly clear the sample of “I’m So Grateful (Keep In Touch)” around which that song is built. Weary is credited as a co-writer, but the pair says they have not been properly compensated nor did they grant permission for the sample’s use.

Not only do the pair object to the use of their sample, but also to the context in which it was presented. “The video [for ‘3 Kings’] includes very graphic depictions of drug use, vulgarity, nudity, gun violence, criminal conduct, actions demeaning to women, and many other items that are certainly inconsistent with Plaintiffs’ wishes for how Plaintiffs’ song would be portrayed,” the lawsuit said.

The suit is well-timed for maximum exposure, as Ross’ God Forgives, I Don’t is up for Best Rap Album at this Sunday’s Grammy Awards. Jay-Z is also among the most-honored artists, with six nominations.

Give a listen to “3 Kings” and “I’m So Grateful (Keep In Touch)” below. It’s pretty clear the sample is there (no one seems to be denying this), and it’s doubly strange that Weary received a writing credit but apparently no compensation (and Warrick got no notice at all). READ FULL STORY

Rick Ross and Young Jeezy involved in brawl at BET Hip-Hop Awards

Saturday night’s taping of the BET Hip-Hop Awards (not to be confused with the BET Awards, which aired two months ago) went from sentimental to chaotic in an instant. A heartfelt tribute to late hip-hop impresario Chris Lighty transitioned into an ugly brawl between entourages representing rappers Rick Ross and Young Jeezy.

Late Saturday night, a conflict erupted between Ross and Jeezy backstage at the Atlanta Civic Center. “Jeezy and Rick Ross just had words backstage!! Pushing and shoving,” tweeted legendary New York DJ Funkmaster Flex following the initial incident.

According to a police report obtained by TMZ, the conflict continued into the parking lot of the Civic Center, and police were called. The Atlanta cops dispersed the crowd using pepper spray, and no arrests were made. READ FULL STORY

Nicki Minaj is a topless mermaid in 'I Am Your Leader' video -- WATCH

After stripping and grinding her way into B.O.B’s heart, Nicki Minaj is up to her skin-baring ways again in the new video for her song ‘I Am Your Leader.’

The 29 year-old artist kicks this pink Barbie mansion-themed clip off wearing a mini-skirt that leaves, well, pretty much nothing to the imagination. Then she moves things to the bubble bath. In that time, she has also managed to transform into a topless mermaid — with strategically placed suds.

Rick Ross and David Copperfield hang out on stage in Vegas -- VIDEO

Rick-Ross

You know that thing when rappers shout out the name of a seemingly completely unrelated public figure in the middle of a verse, making you ponder how it would be to walk in on Robin Williams lecturing Jay-Z  about seizing the day in an empty English classroom or eavesdrop on the Lil Wayne-Bill Gates phone call wherein they discuss the finer points of exceeding baller status?

The Meek Mill-assisted Rick Ross track “Black Magic,” one of several standouts on Maybach Music Group’s recent compilation effort Self Made Vol. 2, has a hook that rhymes: “Poof! There go the car/Poof! there go the crib/Poof! A hundred mil, David Copperfield/David Copperfield, David Copperfield.”

You know where this is headed.

Rick Ross was performing in Las Vegas last night, and revealed in the midst of his set that he had a special guest waiting in the wings: “This is a mother—-in’ icon.  In his field, he the greatest that ever did it.  So, I want you to drop the music at the same time.  Drop the music, let’s go.”

And then, this happened:

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian together at last (for the 98th time) in 'I Wish You Would/Cold' music video -- WATCH

The KimYe love train is moving along just fine, thank you very much.

Just  weeks after validating the seriousness of their romance with the ever-important reality TV bow, Kanye and his boo (or is it Kim and her beau?… the obstacles this relationship will have to overcome!) are back out showing the world just how much they really do love each other.  The milestone reached this time around?  A Kim music video cameo!

That’s right, you can go ahead and add “video vixen” to the ongoing list of the reality star’s many, many talents.

The freshly anointed “perfect bitch” graces the lens in the new clip for the Kanye and DJ Khaled collaboration ‘Theraflu ‘Cold,’ just as her man professes his devotion to her and his not-so-subtle distaste for her estranged NBA-star husband: “I’ll admit I fell in love with Kim/’round the same time she fell in love with him./Well that’s cool, baby girl,  do your thang/He’s just lucky I ain’t had Jay drop him from the team.”

(That Kris Humphries diss is a reference to the fact that Kanye’s ‘Watch The Throne,’ wingman, Jay-Z, is a co-owner of the Brooklyn Nets, Humphries’ current NBA squad — no sweat off Kris’s back, though.  As of today, we are happy to report that he is still a Net, and will be for the foreseeable future)

The Hype Williams-directed clip actually features two Kanye-led tracks–the first of which, ‘I Wish You Would,’ features Rick Ross and is set to appear on the upcoming Khaled album Kiss the Ring.

Check out the video below, and fast-forward to the 5:12 mark if you just can’t wait to see you some Kardashian magic.  Don’t blink, though, or you’ll miss her.  You know Kim…always has been a bit camera shy.

Carly Rae Jepsen and Rick Ross muscle out the competition, Ellie Goulding surges, and Phillip Phillips makes a gigantic chart leap with his Idol coronation song “Home.” Here’s your guide to who’s burning up (and flaming out) on the music charts:

rick-ross-rev

Rick Ross: The large and in charge rapper’s fifth album God Forgives, I Don’t became his fourth number one album, selling 219,000 copies in its first week. The sales total was the largest rap debut since Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded bowed with 253,000 copies earlier this year.

Carly Rae Jepsen: “Call Me Maybe,” which this week passed the 5 million mark in sales, logged a ninth week atop Billboard’s Hot 100. The track, the first off her just-announced Kiss (due Sept. 18), is now the longest-running number one single in 2012 over Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know,” which held the peak position for eight weeks and is still sitting pretty at No. 6.
