Dakota Fanning displays rocker credentials—and lingerie—in new 'Runaways' video

Those of you who last saw Dakota Fanning playing the cute kid in War of the Worlds are in for a bit of a shock with the video below. The clip features footage from the forthcoming rock band biopic The Runaways and finds the 16-year-old Ms. Fanning performing the titular band’s track “Cherry Bomb” while clad in an array of raunchy outfits. Yep, it’s the dictionary definition of “good, clean, fun.” But only if you bought your dictionary from a cocaine-and-book dealer on the Sunset Strip in 1976.

Check out the clip and tell us what you think. Do Fanning, who plays singer Cherie Currie, and Kristen Stewart, who essays Joan Jett, convince as the Runaways? Does the video make you or more less excited about the movie, which opens March 19?

She & Him's new 'In the Sun' video: watch Zooey Deschanel schoolhouse rock

In the first official video from their upcoming She & Him Vol. 2, due March 23, the titular duo (a.k.a. singer/actress/Cabbie-wife Zooey Deschanel and indie-folk star M. Ward) go back to school like Rodney Dangerfield.

With its classroom choreography, meet-me-by-the-lockers eyes, and gymnasium hula-hooping, the clip is a kind of loopy cross between “Hit Me Baby One More Time,” Bye Bye Birdie, and a Gap ad, with opaque tights. Watch below:

Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart take on 'Cherry Bomb' for Runaways movie: Stream it here

You want your adorable I Am Sam moppet in panties and mesh thigh-highs snarling about “dead end dreams” and “stone age love”? It is your lucky day, friend.

Fanning, as Cherrie Currie, takes on the Runaways‘ delinquent-Lolita anthem “Cherry Bomb” for the upcoming biopic of the original grrl band (co-star Kristen Stewart, as Joan Jett, sings back-up). Ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-check it out, below:

It basically sounds like the original, just less awesome. True, Dakota yell-talks more than sings, but that’s hardly unlike Currie; the Runaways were about teen rebellion and general bad-assery, not melisma. And she does nail the hair.

The movie comes to theaters April 9. Will you be there, neon angels?

'Big Love' actress Amanda Seyfried turns singer-songwriter; hear her first effort

Amanda Seyfried, the Keane-eyed actress of Big Love, Mama Mia and Mean Girls fame (“My breasts can always tell when it’s going to rain. Well… they can tell when it’s raining.”) has a new film, the romantic drama Dear John, due in theaters February 5.

For the movie, she has recorded a song she penned, “Little House,” currently streamable over at E! online. The song has that kind of wistful, pretty girl-in-a-coffeehouse-wearing-a-handknit-beret vibe, and seems like a decent match for the soundtrack’s other stars, including the Swell Season, Rachael Yamagata, and duet partners Joshua Radin and Schuyler Fisk.

What do you think, readers—when stars double up on their own movies’ soundtracks (see Patrick Swayze’s “She’s Like the Wind” for Dirty Dancing; Robert Pattinson’s “Never Think” in Twilight), does it enhance the whole movie-going experience, or feel more like because-I-can vanity?

New Leighton Meester, 'Your Love Is a Drug': Stream it here

Blair Waldorf has a new one for you, kids, and as tinkly strobe-light pop songs go, it’s actually…kind of awesome: Light, synth-onic, and with a nice feathery Ace-of-Basey hook.

Stream the latest from Gossip Girl turned nascent Gwen-abee Leighton Meester’s upcoming album of nearly the same name, below:

In the amour-as-narcotic song genre, she joins a diverse list, including Ke$ha (“Your Love Is My Drug”) and Roxy Music (“Love is the Drug”). Will this one bring her “Good Girls Gone Bad” levels of pop-chart success, minus a Cobra Starship or Robin Thicke assist?
