British Navy lipsync Mariah Carey's 'All I Want For Christmas Is You': I'm On a Boat edition!

Here at EW, we love a good Christmas lip dub. And this heartwarming frolic on the high seas is no exception.

According to the video description, the crew of the HMS Ocean found out they would all get to be going home for the holidays after 214 days at sea, and they just had to celebrate–sometimes shirtless.

It turns out that Christmas joy means the same thing on a boat as it does everywhere else: Breaking out Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and dancing your Santa-loving heart out.

Watch the crew’s explosion of Christmas cheer, including elaborate impromptu costumes (made only with things they had aboard — crafty!), high kicks and more below: READ FULL STORY »

Madonna debuts new song 'Masterpiece' -- and we might like it

Madonna has been off the musical radar for a while, but she’s getting an early start on her expected reign over 2012. She’s officially performing at the Super Bowl, and there’s also a new song called “Masterpiece” that is slated to be included on both her upcoming new album as well as the soundtrack to her film W.E.

The version streaming online sounds a little hollow, but overall “Masterpiece” is an uncluttered presentation that recalls the Material Girl’s outre mid-’90s period, which saw the birth of an eclectic batch of hits like “I’ll Remember” and “Take a Bow.” Both of those songs share a certain vibe with “Masterpiece,” which has the same kind of moody, direct energy and sound. Madge’s voice sounds particularly sharp, without distracting digital correction.

All in all, it’s pretty gorgeous, and quite a ways away from the four-on-the-floor club tracks that have littered her previous two albums Hard Candy and Confessions on a Dance Floor. Give “Masterpiece” a spin here.

Taylor Swift is the girl in the cubicle next door in her new video for 'Ours': Watch it here

Country’s platinum cutie goes for full sweetness in the new video for “Ours,” a bonus song off Speak Now.

An ode to love conquering all isn’t exactly a departure for Swift, but instead of fairy-tale princesses and sparkly dresses, she’s rocking the corporate-commuter look, with messy hair (new bangs!) and tennis shoes — and an iPad for sending love messages out during during office hours. Her life is in shades of gray — from the elevator to the break room, they’re all drones — except for the fun, brightly colored memories when she is with her man (that would be Friday Night Lights star Zach Gilford).

Kudos to Swift for putting out a slightly more adult, more realistic video that still captures that butterflies-in-your-stomach, crazy-in-love tone that she is so famous for.

Justin Bieber and Mariah Carey's 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' video has arrived -- VIDEO

Get ready for the cheeriest Macy’s commercial you’re going to see this season.

Justin Bieber has released the video for “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” his duet with Mariah Carey off his Christmas album Under the Mistletoe. And I’ll leave you all to debate the relative vocal merits of his take versus Carey’s iconic original– don’t forget the awesome Love Actually version! — but I can’t get past the clip.

Here are my five takeaways after watching it (Spoiler alert: I want to go to Macy’s):

1. Mariah Carey’s sexy santa outfit: Seriously, that woman hasn’t aged a day since 1994.

2. The intro begins with quick shots between Mimi’s thighs and Bieber’s eyes, making me all kinds of uncomfortable.

3. At the moment (1:15) when Santa hands out tickets to meet Justin, I hope you all notice the tickets say ‘Midnight at MACY’S.’ They might as well have annotated all of the Bieber paraphernalia you can buy at MACY’S! MACY’S: Making your holiday dreams come true!

4.I’m a sucker for a puppy. Sorry Justin, that dog with a bow in the sleigh is the cutest thing about this. I want him for Christmas, please.

5. The product placement. Oh, the product placement! This thing makes a Kardashian wedding look homegrown. In addition to the Macy’s tickets, we’ve got multiple Nitendo3DSs, shoes, and jewelry.  My favorite moment may be when they stop showing individual products and just let Bieber flat-out boogie in the middle of a full display.

Lady Gaga announces release of surprise holiday EP: Hear a new track here

If you aren’t in the holiday spirit already, Lady Gaga is determined to get you there by this weekend.

First there was the barrage of ads for her A Very Gaga Thanksgiving special, airing tomorrow night; then, she launched her window bonanza at Barneys.

And now, making your traveling this weekend a little easier, she has also just announced on Twitter she is putting out a surprise mini-holiday release, A Very Gaga Holiday. I guess Lady Gaga: Total Holiday Domination was taken.

The four-track EP, all culled live from her Thanksgiving special and available now on iTunes, includes “White Christmas,” “Orange Colored Sky,” “You and I,” and “Edge of Glory.”

For a long time, many fans have been clamoring for some kind of EP or acoustic CD to really showcase her voice, as oppose to the fashion, flash, and onstage “decapitations.” After her well-received duet with Tony Bennett, this seems to be another step in that direction. The songs show how much her voice really is well-suited for the big-band and jazz-era stylings on these tunes — much like her slowed-down, showstopping performance of “Edge of Glory” on Howard Stern.

Listen to “White Christmas” — complete with an added verse, courtesy of Gaga — below: READ FULL STORY »

Justin Bieber dons yellow zebra pants, shuffles on stage with LMFAO at the AMAs: Watch it here!

After a night of electro-fizzy, TRON-imitating, backing track-assisted performances, LMFAO appropriately closed the 2011 American Music Awards (Check out the winners!) with a thumping medley of “Party Rock Anthem” and “Sexy And I Know It.”

The afro’d duo provided all the typical pop tropes people have come to expect at an awards show like this. You know, giant robot heads, laser beams shooting from the ceiling, glittery bras, and an entire crowd of people wearing 3-D glasses — the stuff music is really about, at least according to the AMAs.

One thing most performance don’t have, though? A dancing cameo by pop culture’s favorite 5’3″ teen sensation: Justin Bieber.

Wearing a yellow pair of LMFAO’s trademark Zubaz pants, Bieber hopped into the middle of the rowdy dance circle and shuffled out a chorus to “Party Rock Anthem” while wearing a sleeveless black shirt with the word “SEXY” emblazoned across the chest. Check out the finale performance below (Bieber appears around the 2:45 mark): READ FULL STORY »

Kelly Clarkson's jazzy, big-band version of 'Mr. Know It All' at the AMAs: What did you think?

At the American Music Awards, Kelly Clarkson came out swingin’.

Not only did the original American Idol, clad in a sparkly red mermaid gown, dismiss rumors about her record label conflicts, sexuality, and style by belting, “You don’t know a thing about me,” to “reporters,” but she flipped the switch on her pop/R&B-lite single “Mr. Know It All,” turning it into a brassy big-band production.

Surrounded by the 1930s equivalent of paparazzi (or maybe just the cast of Newsies), Clarkson bopped and swayed to the jazzy trombone blasts, and she nailed her big chorus riffs at the end of the number. Check it out below: READ FULL STORY »

Lady Gaga releases two-minute preview of 'Marry The Night': watch here!

What a tease!

Lady Gaga has just released a two-minute preview for her new video, “Marry The Night” and it’s a doozy. Forgoing an elaborate costume, Gaga still manages to shock in a mousy brown bob and hospital gown, lying atop a gurney in a hospital fashioned similarly to the bath haus in the “Bad Romance” video.

The highly stylized clip has a lot of voiceover, with Gaga intoning, “And truthfully the lie of it all is much more honest, because I invented it,” and “It’s not that I’ve been dishonest, it’s just that I loathe reality.” This is a common theme of her concerts: getting lost in the fantasy; swept up in a dream. And on it’s own, that idea is not necessarily a bad thing.

But judging from the clip, it appears her reality is a suicide attempt; the video is dark, but also humorous — a side eye alongside emotional upheaval. It’s more than a little disturbing.

Rebecca Black releases new single 'Person of Interest': Hear it here

Paging Elle Woods: Someone else is comfortable using legal jargon in everyday life.

Rebecca Black, of “Friday” fame, has released her new single, “Person of Interest” (no relation to the CBS show of the same name). It sounds exactly like you’d expect the follow-up to “Friday” and “My Moment” would sound. The lyrics aren’t quite as inane as her first go-round, but unfortunately, it’s mostly just forgettable.

This ode to flirting on the dance floor (keep in mind she’s still only 14) could totally pass as a throwaway Selena Gomez or early Miley Cyrus track, so she’s got that going for her in the teen-pop realm.

Unfortunately, for those who love a good ironic song about car seat debates to fuel a Friday night party, the guilty pleasure vibes coming out of this tune are absent. All we’re left with is a “crime scene on the dance floor” — a topic widely covered with more success by Britney, Rihanna and co.

Take a listen to Ms. Black’s latest below. READ FULL STORY »

Newlyweds Paul McDonald and Nikki Reed record duet: Listen here!

There’s nothing like young love.

In “Now That I’ve Found You” a song sung by season 10 American Idol contestant Paul McDonald and his brand-new wife, Twilight actress Nikki Reed, the duo offer up a sweet ode to romance.

With McDonald writing the melody and Reed penning the lyrics, the song isn’t stand-out memorable, but it sure is a nice treat and makes for some easy listening, making me think of picnics in the park and summer walks. The bluegrass-feeling tune (loving that harmonica!) stays in McDonald’s folk and country wheelhouse, with Reed providing some welcome back-up.
