First track from 'Oblivion' score by M83 hits the web -- listen to it here

The electronic music of French band M83 has appeared in dozens of movies, commercials and TV episodes, including ABC’s Revenge, BBC ads for the 2012 Olympics and the striking trailer for last year’s Cloud Atlas. But not until now have any of the band members written music specifically for a film. Anthony Gonzalez of M83 found his first film scoring gig in Tom Cruise-starrer Oblivion, which you can now get a sampling of — one track from the score was released online today.

The sci-fi flick is an appropriate first scoring gig for Gonzalez, given the band’s galaxy namesake and the spacey, celestial quality of their music. Gonzalez created Oblivion‘s score with TRON: Uprising composer Joseph Trapanese. Listen to this synth-driven first track, “StarWaves,” which the other M83 band members also contributed to, below: READ FULL STORY

'Spring Breakers' soundtrack streaming online: Skrillex, Rick Ross, more

spring-breakers-soundtrack

The soundtrack for Spring Breakers, the upcoming movie from arty-bizarro cult-favorite director Harmony Korine (Kids, Gummo), doesn’t hit streets until next Tuesday, but you can listen to its soundtrack now thanks to a stream at Pitchfork.

As promised (warned?),  Skrillex produced the original score for Spring Breakers, which also brings in Rick Ross, Gucci Mane, Wacka Flocka Flame, and, interestingly, a collaboration between James Franco and Florida rapper Dangeruss.

Their duet, titled “Hangin’ With Da Dopeboys,” supports Franco’s claim that Dangeruss — not reality star turned rapper and real-life irreality star Riff Raff – served as the inspiration for his Spring Breakers character Alien, a white, spectacularly corn-rowed rapper from Florida.

Love came in many forms this Valentine’s week. Sure, there was plenty of the chocolates-and-roses variety, but also Grey’s solidarity, violent foreplay, and whatever rip-your-heart-out magic it is that makes Scandal‘s on-and-off-and-on-and-off leading couple so damn sexy and devastating all at the same time.
