PSY-PISTACHIOS-JUKEBOX

When it comes to all the forms of entertainment in the Super Bowl telecast, music completes the package. No, we’re not talking about Beyonce’s halftime show. We’re talking about the tunes in all those commercials.

The music in this year’s Big Game ads was a mix of recent hits and decades-old classics. Appropriate for one of America’s biggest partying days, the song choices were mostly upbeat and celebratory, but there were a few more emotional tracks as well.

Here EW presents to you a special edition of TV Jukebox with those Super Bowl commercials in the spotlight. Check out our picks and Spotify playlist below. READ FULL STORY »

Beyonce announces Mrs. Carter Show World Tour, dates -- VIDEO

beyonce-world-tour_510x660And you thought “Queen B” was just a nickname.

Shortly after her triumphant, Destiny’s Child-reuniting, Superdome power-destroying halftime show, Her Majesty Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter I revealed that she will soon embark on a royal tour of her fabulous domain — a.k.a. the whole wide world, or at least Europe and North America. Interestingly enough, Bey chose to announce her tour in the same way as last year’s halftime show performer while also using imagery heavily associated with a certain rival queen.

Are you a Beyliever now?

Over a week after the world learned that Beyoncé had lip-synched “The Star-Spangled Banner” at President Obama’s second inauguration, the diva finally admitted publicly this afternoon that she did, in fact, use a backing track during her performance. “I am a perfectionist,” she said, “and I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra. It was a live television show, and a very very important emotional show for me…And due to the weather, due to the delay, due to no proper sound check, I did not feel comfortable taking a risk. It was about the president and the inauguration, and I wanted to make my country proud.”

The confession, however, came only after Beyoncé delivered a live, a cappella rendition of the national anthem to a convention center filled with reporters — proving that she can perform the song without any help from a pre-recorded track or even other musicians. Here’s video of her unaccompanied performance:

How hard is Beyoncé working for her imminent Super Bowl halftime show? She can barely stand up, that’s how hard!

Bey has taken to her personal blog to release a collection of new black-and-white images of her an her crew immersed in Super Bowl rehearsals. The images show her in workout gear and sneakers, dancing, squinting, and — yes- holding a microphone.

A cynic might view these new pictures as a preemptive strike against any potential claims of taking shortcuts, an allegation many critics have lobbed her way after her inauguration controversy. Most people, though, will probably just enjoy the images as a rare sneak peak at one of the most-watched events on earth.

Take a look at some of the images below (and the rest at Beyoncé’s Instagram) and decide for yourself:

Alicia Keys to sing National Anthem at Super Bowl

The Girl on Fire is Super Bowl-bound.

Alicia Keys will sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl this year, according to a press release. This will be the Grammy winner’s first time performing the Super Bowl honor, although she has twice before performed during the pre-show.

In addition to Keys’ National Anthem, Beyoncé will be performing the Super Bowl halftime show, and reports abound that Destiny’s Child will be joining her, presumably to help her perform the trio’s first new release in a decade, “Nuclear.” Beyoncé herself tackled the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in 2004; Kelly Clarkson had the honor last year.

While unlikely to perform it at the big game, Beyoncé and Alicia Keys have recorded a collaboration together, the song “Put It In A Love Song,” from Keys’ album The Element of Freedom. The two will also be performing separately at a number of Inauguration events this weekend.

Super Bowl XLVII takes place Feb. 3 in New Orleans.

Well, that was fast: Just one day after the indigestibly powerful Beyoncé announced that new music from Destiny’s Child was on its way, it’s been reported that the group will be performing at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show as well.

According to Us Weekly, multiple sources have confirmed that the trio — Bey, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams — will be reuniting onstage for the first time since 2006. (EW has reached out to the group’s reps for confirmation but have yet to hear back.)

The Feb. 3 game will come just days after Destiny’s Child releases Love Songs, a compilation that’ll contain a new song called “Nuclear.” Likewise, the R&B group will reportedly perform a medley of hits when they take the stage, saving their latest single for the end.

Of course, Beyoncé will still be the star of the night. Sources tell Us Weekly that Beyoncé will begin the show on her own, bring in Rowland and Williams at halftime’s halftime, and then return for another solo run that’ll include a brand new cut from her upcoming album.

Fans to join Beyonce onstage at Super Bowl

All the single ladies — and fellas — will have a chance to join Beyonce onstage at the upcoming Super Bowl.

Pepsi announced Friday that 100 fans will hit the stage when the Grammy-winning diva performs on Feb. 3 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. A contest that kicks off Saturday will allow fans to submit photos of themselves in various poses, including head bopping, feet tapping, and hip shaking. Those pictures will be used in a TV ad introducing Beyonce’s halftime performance, and 50 people — along with a friend — will be selected to join the singer onstage.

The photo contest ends Jan. 19, but Jan. 11 is the cut-off date for those interested in appearing onstage with Beyonce.
