The Jersey Shore's Pauly D working on an album with 50 Cent: You ready to fist pump?

Jersey Shore’s Pauly D recently revealed that he plans to do more on the music front than just DJ.

“I’m focusing on music. That’s my passion,” he told Billboard of his future plans. “I’m working with 50 Cent now.  I’m going to do an album with him. It’s going to be a little bit of everything. It’s almost like DJ Khaled and kind of David Guetta but my own DJ Pauly D style.”

There was a time that news like that would elicit shock and awe from me. Something like, “I can’t believe a reality TV star is putting out an album!!!”

But I’m all screamed out. This stuff happens often. Also, it must be noted that Pauly actually has a skill. DJing is no joke craft. He’s currently holding court on Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale tour. Whether he’ll be a talent gatherer with a good ear for music like DJ Khaled or a gifted, hit-making producer like Guetta remains to be seen, though.

For now, I’m going to save my voice, because, hey, he might know what he’s doing. Working with 50 is a good start, too. He definitely knows a thing or, um, 50, about big albums, great songs, and singles.

MTV VMAs wildest moments: EW predicts what's coming this Sunday

With the 2011 MTV VMAs just two days away, it got us thinking: Boy, some nutty things have happened over the years. Butts have been exposed, pop queens have kissed, and there have been just plain awkward moments.

The question now is what’s going to happen next: Maybe Lady Gaga will wear a live animal—who knows? So while we wait for the madness to ensue, let’s speculate! Below are some things that just might happen.

Award Theft

Kreayshawn’s “Gucci Gucci” loses to Foster The People’s “Pumped Up Kicks” in the Best New Artist category. While the band accepts their award, ‘Shawn storms the stage (kind of like this guy) and steals the mic and the award, calling them and fellow nominees Tyler, The Creator, Wiz Khalifa, and Big Sean “basic b—-es.” Tyler, of course, is the only one who finds this funny.

First pop, now country music. T-Pain, you’ve won.

The JaneDear girls, an up-and-coming female duo that shimmied onto the country scene with their self-titled debut in February, are releasing their third single, “Merry Go Round,” next month, and it’s sure to raise a few eyebrows.

The rollicking, fiddle-laced track features a hefty dose of Auto-Tuned vocals, the kind that sound more at home on Top-40 radio than country stations.

Jay-Z says wife Beyonce is 'the second coming' of Michael Jackson: Yes, he knows it's blasphemy

His comments should probably be taken with a grain of salt, considering he’s the lady’s husband, but Jay-Z recently bestowed Beyoncé with a heavy compliment.

During an interview with Miami radio station 99 Jamz, Jay compared his wife’s work ethic to that of late pop icon Michael Jackson. Then he took it a step further, saying she’s the closest thing we’ve got to MJ now.

“What I’ve learned from her is the same thing I learned from Mike,” Jay said after being asked what Beyoncé’s taught him.  “And I know it’s blasphemy to compare the two because Mike was such an innovator. But I think she’s like the second coming. The hard work and the dedication that she puts into her shows… It just makes you want to work harder at your craft. She’s like a machine.”

Before you just go on and dismiss Jay completely, know that he’s more than just a loving husband; he is of course a major artist himself, one who even collaborated Jackson years ago.

Where are all the solo female country stars?

Want to hear a staggering statistic?

In the last four weeks, there has been only one song by a female solo artist in the Top 30 of Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart: “Sparks Fly” by Taylor Swift, which currently sits at number 23.

Meanwhile, on the pop charts, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Adele, Britney Spears, Rihanna, and Nicki Minaj continue to dominate.

Country music in 2011 is apparently a man’s world. But it shouldn’t have to be!

Where is the love for Kellie Pickler’s rough-and-tumble new single, “Tough?” Why did Sunny Sweeney’s latest track, the heartfelt “Staying’s Worse Than Leaving,” stall at number 41? Why won’t Sara Evans’ “My Heart Can’t Tell You No” take off at radio? Does Nashville have a problem with female singers right now?

Before you all jump down my throat—Listen, I know that Lady Antebellum includes singer Hillary Scott. I know that Kimberly Perry provides the vocals for The Band Perry. I know Carrie Underwood is a guest on Brad Paisley’s “Remind Me.” I know Thompson Square is one-half female. I know that Kelly Clarkson sings on Jason Aldean’s “Don’t You Wanna Stay” and that Grace Potter is featured on Kenny Chesney’s “You and Tequila” But all these ladies are successful alongside men—where are the solo country females?! Justin Bieber and Chris Brown trade rap verses on 'Ladies Love Me': Hear it here

A few people feared for the worst when Justin Bieber first tweeted that he’d be working with bad boy Chris Brown last December. The two’s collab wound up being the gushy love cut “Next to You,” where they crooned that they’d stick by their girls through thick and thin. But this week a new cut with J.B. and Breezy features them singing rapping a different tune.

Before your head explodes, know that even though they’re known as pop singers, they’ve both dabbled with delivering their words in hip-hop fashion before. Brown even scored a smash this year as a rapper with “Look at Me Now,” rhyming alongside veterans Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes.

And Bieber hopped on one of 2010′s hottest rap cuts, Vado’s “Speaking in Tungs,” and laced it with his own Tom Brady-dissing freestyle.

This time around, Bieber joins Brown on “Ladies Love Me,” a cut from Brown’s new (and first rap-focused) mixtape Boy in Detention. The David Banner-produced cut finds them rhyming about what they know best: girls, money, and toys. Listen to it after the jump.

The distance between Adele’s lovely, competent debut 19 and her chart-ruling, music-business-buoying sophomore effort 21 was only two short years. But really, the Adele that we’re currently enjoying (especially the Adele tearing the walls down with “Rolling in the Deep” night after night) is light-years removed from the Adele who first tried to win our hearts a few years back.

That point was driven home when Billboard recently resurrected a fascinating piece of video. It’s Adele performing “Chasing Pavements,” the Grammy-winning single from her first album, in a stripped-down, unplugged environment as part of a performance series for the industry mag’s website. The Voice top eight headed out on tour this summer: How can they make the tour amazing without their superstar coaches?

As we reported yesterday, NBC’s The Voice is following the lead of smash singing competition American Idol, planning to send their best and brightest out on the road following the show’s finale Wednesday night.

The eight finalists–Vicci Martinez, Dia Frampton, Nakia, Xenia, Beverly McClellan, Casey Weston, Frenchie Davis, and Javier Colon–will anchor The Voice Live on Tour. Unfortunately, the show’s esteemed squad of coaches, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, and Blake Shelton, will not be joining them. Apparently talks broke down because compensating stars of that caliber would be too costly (and also, Blake and Adam have tour and promotional commitments of their own this summer).

That said, the eight finalists have proven they’re ready for the big stage: I could listen to Javier Colon sing his soulful cover of “Time After Time” or “Angel” all day. Same for Beverly McClellan and her headbanging rendition of “I’m the Only One.” These guys are worth seeing, even without Mr. Levine hummingbird vocals or Ms. Aguilera’s sassy theatrics.

The tour’s budget likely won’t be as robust as the millions spent on each episode of the show, so count on there being a lot less Hollywood sheen on this outing. But as they saying goes, good music trumps everything. The key question is, without all the bells and whistles NBC’s production crew provided and sans the guidance of veteran superstar talents, can the final eight give stellar performances nightly? I think so.

Nirvana's 'Nevermind' getting five-disc 20th anniversary treatment, but is there really that much left to hear?

This September, Nirvana’s Nevermind will officially turn 20. It’s hard to believe that album that rewrote the rules for pop music (at least for a few years) is now two decades old.

It actually feels even older than that, if only because the days when Mudhoney got on the radio and MTV cared about alt-rock never-weres like Velocity Girl might as well have been the Mesozoic Era.

An album as important as Nevermind deserves the deluxe re-issue treatment, and fans will be obliged with five discs worth of Nevermind-era music and ephemera. According to the press release announcing the reissue, the four CDs and one DVD will feature “previously unreleased recordings, rarities, b-sides, BBC radio appearances, alternative mixes, rare live recordings and an unreleased concert in its entirety.”

That’s an awful lot of Nirvana, and it begs the question: is there really that much Nirvana to be heard? READ FULL STORY »

Remember back in 2007 when Kanye West and 50 Cent both released their third albums, Graduation and Curtis, on September 11?

Fifty swore that if Kanye’s first week sales outdid his, he’d quit rapping. Yeah, I know it was a publicity stunt. I saw them joking with each other during their photo shoot with Rolling Stone.
