John Mayer announces first post throat surgery tour

Remember when John Mayer released Born and Raised last year? If you don’t, that’s probably because Mayer was sidelined by vocal problems that led to multiple throat surgeries, months of vocal rest, and the cancelation of most all of his promotional efforts.

He wasn’t completely invisible—he did show up to play guitar with Frank Ocean on SNL last year—but he laid pretty low most of the time.

He’s apparently back in good health; during a Google+ Hangout last night, Mayer revealed a 40-date tour—his first in three years. The trek kicks off April 25 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and will keep him intermittently on the road into October.

In an interview with Billboard, Mayer talked about his extended hiatus and the frustration that set in when he couldn’t speak for weeks on end. “I was forced to type on my iPad to communicate anything,” Mayer told the magazine. “It wasn’t liberating. Is breaking your leg liberating? No. All complexity is gone when you don’t have a choice.”

Check out all of Mayer’s upcoming tour dates below. And while you’re at it, watch the video for “Shadow Days,” one of the more underrated rock singles from 2012.  READ FULL STORY

Possible reveal of Lollapalooza lineup includes Phoenix and The Postal Service

Rumors are swirling that Phoenix, Vampire Weekend, Mumford & Sons, and The Killers just might be the chosen ones headlining Lollapalooza.

Two anonymous Twitter accounts have been slowly leaking names of artists who will be featured at this year’s Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago, and today the Chicago Tribune reported that the three-day event would feature the above bands as well as The National and The Postal Service.

The lineup hasn’t officially been announced yet, but The Killers are participating in Lollapalooza Brasil and according to their tour schedule, Phoenix will be geographically posed to pop in for a show in Chicago on those dates.

The other bands’ tour schedules show an opening during that weekend as well, so let’s say it’s safe to hope. Calls by EW to Lollapalooza organizers for confirmation were not immediately returned.

Early-bird tickets and special packages go on sale this week for the ninth Lolla festival at Grant Park. The festival runs August 2-4.

Rihanna cancels tour date due to laryngitis UPDATE: Another date canceled

Time to send Rihanna some get-well cards.

RiRi only started her six-month Diamonds world tour last Friday, but she’s already had to cancel a date due to laryngitis. The “Stay” singer was scheduled to perform at a sold-out show at Boston’s TD Garden last night but dropped out on the advice of a doctor, according to a Live Nation statement.

“Unfortunately, following her sold out concert on Friday, Rihanna has contracted laryngitis and per doctor’s instruction is unable to perform this evening,” the statement read. READ FULL STORY

Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z officially announce summer stadium tour

timberlake-jay-z

The rumor has been running since Jigga dropped another luxury verse on Justin Timberlake’s comeback single “Suit & Tie,” but now it’s official: Jay-Z and JT are spending the summer together.

Or at least part of the summer. This morning, the duo announced a 12-date tour that will take them into some of the country’s best baseball and football stadiums. The pairing will launch the trek—dubbed Legends of the Summer—at Toronto’s Rogers Centre on July 17 (a few days after they co-headline the Wireless Festival in London), and they’ll wrap up at Miami’s Sun Live Stadium on August 16.

In between, they’ll hit New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Baltimore, Detroit, Boston, Hershey, and Philadelphia. Sorry, most of the South and the non-California West—no Jay and Justin for you! Don’t feel bad though; Brooklyn also gets denied a show even though Jay-Z kinda sorta has his own arena there.

The complete list of tour dates is below. Tickets go on sale to the public on February 28, save for the concert at New York’s Yankee Stadium (the details on that one will come soon).  READ FULL STORY

Mumford and Sons announce dates, lineups for 'Stopover' mini-fests

Move over, Dave Matthews Band Caravan — there’s a new folk group with a traveling tour in town.

Though probably not your town. Mumford & Sons are adding new small-town dates to their Gentlemen of the Road tour, thus reviving their “Stopovers” scheme from last year. And this time, they’re bringing some new friends along for the ride.

The two-day Stopovers — planned in what Mumford & Sons says are “towns not normally frequented by touring bands in busses or splitter vans” — will feature a range of artists, from Vampire Weekend to the Vaccines.

“We deliberately look for towns that have something unique, or some vibe of which they are proud, explore them, and enjoy what they have to offer,” the band said in a statement.

So, which lucky towns will get to see Mumford & Pals? Check out the full schedule below:

Beyonce announces Mrs. Carter Show World Tour, dates -- VIDEO

beyonce-world-tour_510x660And you thought “Queen B” was just a nickname.

Shortly after her triumphant, Destiny’s Child-reuniting, Superdome power-destroying halftime show, Her Majesty Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter I revealed that she will soon embark on a royal tour of her fabulous domain — a.k.a. the whole wide world, or at least Europe and North America. Interestingly enough, Bey chose to announce her tour in the same way as last year’s halftime show performer while also using imagery heavily associated with a certain rival queen.

New Kids on the Block, 98 Degrees, and Boyz II Men touring together this summer: 'Ladies, we're coming for you'

The-Package-Tour.jpg

NKOTBSB was only the beginning.

New Men Kids on the Block Jordan, Jonathan, Joey, Donnie, and Danny revealed on The View today that they’ll release a new album, 10, this April. The boys also announced that they’re planning a national tour this summer with a few very special guests — newly reunited boy band 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men, the R&B group single-handedly responsible for 87 percent of babies born in 1995. They’re calling the event “The Package Tour,” because “NKOTB98DB2M” would look weird on a t-shirt. Here’s an actual quote from the press release:

“Ladies, we’re coming for you,” said NKOTB member Donnie Wahlberg. “This is going to be the craziest year yet — the single, the album, the tour with 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men … We can’t wait to give fans ‘The Package!’”

Green Day announce new tour dates, update on Billie Joe Armstrong's rehab stay

After a taxing end to 2012, things are starting to brighten up for Green Day.

The band had to nix a run of tour dates after frontman Billie Joe Armstrong checked into rehab back in September, just a few days after the release of ¡Uno!, the first of a trilogy of albums that hit store shelves last year.

Armstrong has been laying pretty low since then, but the new year brought some good news: The band has booked a bunch of new dates, and Armstrong’s recovery is moving along nicely.

“I just want to thank you all for the love and support you’ve shown for the past few months,” Armstrong said in a statement directed at fans. “Believe me, it hasn’t gone unnoticed and I’m eternally grateful to have such an amazing set of friends and family. I’m getting better everyday. So now, without further ado, the show must go on. We can’t wait to get on the road and live out load! Our passion has only grown stronger.” READ FULL STORY
