This week in ridiculous tour riders: Kanye West and M.I.A.

Whatever you thought of M.I.A.’s Super Bowl outing, one thing is for certain: it could’ve gotten weirder.

The web’s premier celebrity-shamer The Smoking Gun has dug up a copy of what it claims is M.I.A.’s tour rider, and it’s a bit of a doozy, even by M.I.A.’s high-doozy standards.

On the list? Let’s see, we’ve got some bottles of Vitamin Water, a few trays of European cheese and “quality chocolates,” a high-speed internet connection.

Hmm, anything else? Oh yeah, we almost forgot about the three women between the ages of 20 and 25 to dance on stage wearing full-body burkas. And the burkas should be provided by the venue, naturally.

Megaupload ringleader Kim Dotcom working on an album, presumably so he can steal it from himself

In less than a week, Megaupload figurehead Kim Dotcom (yep, that’s his real name) has gone from mysterious non-entity to everybody’s favorite eccentric Internet celebrity. The story about his crazy action movie capture—which saw him decamp to his panic room with a sawed-off shotgun—has given way to his other interests, which include collecting expensive cars (nearly $5 million in sweet rides were seized upon his arrest, including a pink 1959 Cadillac and a 2010 Mercedes-Benz CL63 that had a license plate that read “HACKER”), acquiring art, sending threatening e-mails to his neighbors, and acting goofy in various videos online.

Music, however, is apparently the thing that really drives him. READ FULL STORY

Blue Ivy Carter: Beyonce and Jay-Z's firstborn is already totally freaking out the internet

Just two days old, and Blue Ivy Carter is already at the center of wild-eyed internet speculation. (Lucifer’s daughter? Okay. Illuminati? Why not!)

Here, a helpful guide to the finer points of all things Baby Carter:

The first order of business is to get the name right; it’s Blue Ivy Carter — not Ivy Blue Carter, as E! initially reported. That’s half the battle right there.

George is the Beatle most horrified by Ke$ha

A rabble-rouser on Buzzfeed got thousands of people outraged today with this list of 12 Extremely Disappointing Facts About Popular Music. The one below struck me as the most visually disturbing. Why didn’t Photoshop melt down as a drunk and disorderly Muppets extra was placed next to The Beatles? Does the answer lie in the space between Ke$sha’s boobs? So many questions.

I’ve come up with a way to cope, though: Imagine that all of the Beatles are facially reacting to the horror show at their right. Ringo is being so polite and cautious about it, probably because he’s the closest to the danger. John is willfully oblivious, while Paul looks just slightly more dead inside than Ke$ha. George wins this stinkface competition by a long and winding mile. (I feel like he’d also take the most convincing Facebook self-portraits in iPhoto. I hate myself!)

See? It’s easy if you try. Feel better now? [Buzzfeed]

The Band Perry's debut album goes platinum. Great! Perhaps now those brothers can get new haircuts?

After 59 weeks on the chart, The Band Perry’s self-titled debut album was just certified platinum for shipments of 1 million copies.

Thanks to their country-gothic crossover smash “If I Die Young,” which hit number one on the country chart in December 2010 and then rose to number one on the adult contemporary chart eleven months later, their album has sold steadily over the past year. But a recent slew of CMA Awards wins, as well as a Best New Artist Grammy nomination have given the sibling trio a new boost. READ FULL STORY

Bob Dylan buys a set of bagpipes. (Hope you like his new direction!)

While in Glasgow, Scotland, last weekend to play a couple of shows, Bob Dylan bought a new instrument: A set of traditional bagpipes.

“He’s always wanted to learn,” said a spokesperson for the Glasgow’s National Piping Centre, according to Reuters. “It’s a lovely sound when they are played well, and something to be appreciated.”

Rihanna's sexy 'We Found Love' outfit too hot for Irish farmer, who trucked the star off his land: Was her bikini too much?

Bajan singer Rihanna is undoubtedly one of the sexiest pop stars out right now. And for good reason: Between her racy videos and magazine spreads, she leaves plenty of tongues wagging.

But she recently revealed a little too much for one modest farmer when she used his land to shoot her new video for “We Found Love” in Ireland—so much so that he shut down the entire production to give her a stern talking-to.

Farm owner Alan Graham, 61, drove his tractor into the shooting area after seeing Rihanna in a red bikini under a plaid shirt and jeans and respectfully demanded they leave.

“I thought it was inappropriate. I requested them to stop and they did,” he later explained to the BBC. “I had my conversation with Rihanna and I hope she understands where I’m coming from. We shook hands.”

This news comes just after fellow pop vixen Britney Spears stirred up some controversy for her pistol-packing scene in her upcoming “Criminal” video shot in London. Our stars just can’t catch a break overseas, huh?

Fortunately for Rihanna, the saintly farmer wishes nothing but the best for her — well, except that maybe she visits a church soon.

“I wish no ill will against Rihanna and her friends,” he said. “Perhaps they could acquaint themselves with a greater God.”

What do guys think? Was Rihanna’s outfit a little too crazy? Did Graham overreact? Does Rihanna need to find Him? Let us know.

R.E.M. officially disband after 30 years

After over three decades and 15 studio albums together, R.E.M. have decided to call it quits.

In a statement posted to their official website, the band told fans that Collapse Into Now (which was released earlier this year) would be the last thing the band recorded as a unit.

“To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band,” the announcement said. “We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening.”

The Athens, Georgia quartet (founded by singer Michael Stipe, drummer Bill Berry, bassist Mike Mills, and guitarist Peter Buck) soldiered on as a trio after Berry left the band in 1997 due to health problems.

All told, R.E.M. have sold over 25 million albums, amassed a bevy of awards, put out dozens of iconic music videos, and left behind a body of work that includes some of the most iconic songs of the end of the 20th century.

UPDATE: Stipe, Mills, and Buck each wrote their own individual comments about the break-up.

Mike Mills
“During our last tour, and while making Collapse Into Now and putting together this greatest hits retrospective, we started asking ourselves, ‘what next’? Working through our music and memories from over three decades was a hell of a journey. We realized that these songs seemed to draw a natural line under the last 31 years of our working together. LMFAO don Speedos, get crotch-tastic in 'Sexy And I Know It' video

Musical aficionados of an older generation might argue that LMFAO‘s music is junk, but somehow, I doubt the “Party Rock”ers would care. The only junk they’re concerned with is their own.

In a music video for their new single, “Sexy And I Know It,” the duo don skimpy Speedos and introduce us to a few new members of their electro-rap troupe—members that (how do I put this?) could cause the group to flop.

Check out the rather NSFW video (which they recreated last night on Leno) below: READ FULL STORY

MTV VMAs wildest moments: EW predicts what's coming this Sunday

With the 2011 MTV VMAs just two days away, it got us thinking: Boy, some nutty things have happened over the years. Butts have been exposed, pop queens have kissed, and there have been just plain awkward moments.

The question now is what’s going to happen next: Maybe Lady Gaga will wear a live animal—who knows? So while we wait for the madness to ensue, let’s speculate! Below are some things that just might happen.

Award Theft

Kreayshawn’s “Gucci Gucci” loses to Foster The People’s “Pumped Up Kicks” in the Best New Artist category. While the band accepts their award, ‘Shawn storms the stage (kind of like this guy) and steals the mic and the award, calling them and fellow nominees Tyler, The Creator, Wiz Khalifa, and Big Sean “basic b—-es.” Tyler, of course, is the only one who finds this funny.

Check out the rest after the jump.
