Journey’s "Don’t Stop Believin’" hasn’t just taken on another life, it’s going to outlive us all. What started as a top-10 power ballad back in 1981(it peaked at no. 9 on the pop charts) has become the song with more lives than nine cats. The most notable return to the pop culture zeitgeist came, of course, with the Sopranos series finale, but it’s also turned up in the current Broadway show Rock of Ages, as well as Laguna Beach (which landed the song on to iTunes Top 10 back in 2005) — even the memorable roller-rink scene in 2003’s Charlize Theron Oscar bait Monster.
And just when we’d thought we’d escaped the grasp of Steve Perry’s epic plea to "hold on to that fee-eee-ee-lin’" Fox’s Glee came along and put the ultimate earworm back in its rightful place: the number-one spot on iTunes. Of course, it sounds slightly different in this Freaks and Geeks meets High School Musical pilot, but it’s a good kind of different. Even if you aren’t one for show choirs (which, is quite frankly, shocking), it’s pretty damn hard to resist. What do you think, Music Mixers? Are you loving Glee’s take on "Don’t Stop Believin’," or are you ready to ship it back on the midnight train goin’ an-y-where?

I downloaded their version. I love it. I can’t stop listening to it. Now it’s stuck in my head. I suspect I need some sort of Don’t Stop rehab right now.
Well that USED to be a great song. Now its just a bunch of lousy kids singing for a pretentious “critic’s darling” comedy.
I can’t wait for this show to get cancelled (which wont take long), so that this awful cover will be forgotten, with the exception of various “worst covers ever list” spread around the internet.
LOVE it! Can’t get it out of my head.
I loved the show and their big finale, loved the back up voices on this song.
Also the big finale number of Broadway’s Rock of Ages and heavily used in the show’s promos.
The Glee version of the song is amazing. And if someone thinks this show is “pretentious,” they obviously don’t know the meaning of the word. Glee is anything but.
it’s a good cover, but Petra Haden’s COMPLETELY acapella version is 100 times better and it was done in 2007!

HA!
this cover of Don’t Stop Believin’ is insanely good. Its catchy, energetic, and it just makes you feel on top of the world. I blasted this song as I rode out on my last day of high school. and for those who are crying blasphemoy about this song being redone and calling it another High School Musical retard, then obviously you haven’t seen the show which is ten times better then any HSM movie can ever be and this song is a THOUSAND times better then any crappy song from those movies, cause unlike them, this one actually gives emotion. hands down, this is going to be blaring on my radio all summer.
i totally agree justin
Don’t get me wrong, I like the song, but I’m getting a little sick of hearing it everywhere. Not only that, but once I do hear it I cannot get it out of my head. I would appreciate it if the song was given a bit of a rest.
I don’t care for Journey, and while I can’t deny the infectiousness of “Don’t Stop Believin’”, it’s not a song I listen to with any regularity. But I love–*love*–the “Glee” version.
Petra Haden’s version is inventive and fun, but unfort. her voice is only half as good as Lea Michele’s from Glee. Glee version rocks.
I’ve listened to it soo many times already. Definitely obsessed with it and I have a feeling I will be for a while
Looooove it.
I was born the year this song came out, and I don’t think I was really into it until I heard it in “Monster” during the scene at the roller rink. Then I suddenly remembered the other times I’d heard it “somewhere” and suddenly had to have it, and have been crazy for it since.
I haven’t seen “Glee” yet, but it is on Do-Not-Delete mode on my TIVO. I’ve been so overloaded on 2-hour finales this week, I need a break before I (very likely) enjoy this show. I did, however, immediately check out the clip of the song on I-tunes and liked those 30 seconds enough to download it ASAP. I listened to it once and thought, “Oh cute, a duet.” And then a couple days later, I listened to it over and over… oh dear God. Now I’m obsessed. And it’ll be so much easier to enjoy lip-syncing to this song with a girl in lead vocals.
Can’t seem to get tired of this d@amned song. Even though it’s a top 10 on my Ipod, I still squeal when it comes on the radio & I am forced to turn up the volume LOUD!
PS– D@amn you, EW! You just forced me to listen to it again! CURSE YOU, ENABLERS!
I loved the show and i loved the music…i already bought REHAB & DONT STOP BELIEVIN!!!
They are good to jamn too and good work out music!
I feel dumber for watching that. More pretentious tweens on a ‘critics darling’ show that Ausiello and Kristin will fawn over before it croaks.
Got anymore buzz words to throw our way?
Also, the Chicago White Sox adopted “Don’t Stop Believin” as their theme song during their 2005 World Series win (for the record, I am a Cubs fan, but I support any Chicago baseball team that can win a series!)
I loved it, goosebumps thought I had enough but it did bring new life into the song!
Can’t. Stop. Listening.
I love this song. I have teh greatest hits album. Steve Perry rocks! http://bbwdatingsingles.com
It might be just because I used to do this kinda stuff in high school but I. LOVE. This. Cover.
It’s got a lot of heart and is an awesome rendition of this song.. and if you watched the show, the performance was pretty good too.
I hope this show goes somewhere or at the very least this cast keeps recording together cuz they’ve got something special.
Was completely and TOTALLY awesome!!!!!
How can a show that’s brimming with pure joy and smile-inducing happiness be pretentious? It’s hardly a show that thinks it’s smarter than everything. Do people understand the words they use?
Love. Love. Love it, both the pilot and the Glee version of “Don’t Stop. I downloaded both from itunes. I can’t wait to see the show the fall. I like the kids a lot, as well as the teachers. I loved what Finn said about deciding to play football and be in the glee club “We’re all losers.” It’s like he finally that even though some people are the school are big shots, that wasn’t a given in the real world. And when he said, “I am doing both because you can’t win without me and neither can they” I did a fist pump. Nice to see a cast where all of the characters show potential growth. Let’s hear it for the scripted series. Maybe it isn’t dead after all.
Horrible! Not even close to as good as Journey. Why is this terrible show even on TV?
I LOVE it! Can’t get enough! I play it in my office at work when I need a pick me up!
I have listened to this SO many times since downloading it yesterday. It makes me smile like nothing else – and I am a 36-year old male. Crazy. Watched the pilot three times so far and I just love it. Seen the clip above about twenty times too. I’m officially obsessed.
tried to watch the pilot…got through 10 minutes. this crap is awful. the original song is great…but as sung by a choir? terrible. how do people love this???
Cute show, though the ‘kids’ seem old for high school. In every generation there will be a Mickey Rooney & Judy Garland saying “let’s put on a show!” This is another variation on the theme. The movie never ends… it goes on and on.
