Fox and Columbia Records announced plans today to release a soundtrack to my favorite new show of the fall, Glee, with quite an eclectic track listing.
- “Don’t Stop Believin’”
- “Can’t Fight This Feeling”
- “Gold Digger”
- “Take a Bow”
- “Bust Your Windows”
- “Taking Chances”
- “Alone”
- “Maybe This Time”
- “Somebody to Love”
- “Hate On Me”
- “No Air”
- “You Keep Me Hangin’ On”
- “Keep Holding On”
- “Bust a Move”
- “Sweet Caroline”
- “Dancing with Myself”
- “Defying Gravity”
Being a Glee fanatic—and lucky enough to have visited the set twice so far—I have some info on a few of the tracks you might be wondering about.
“Gold Digger” appears in the series premiere, airing Sept. 9 at 9pm, with Will (Matthew Morrison) taking lead vocals during a glee club rehearsal. While it sounds like it could be a hot mess, the whole performance is actually quite charming. Rachel (Lea Michele) performs Rihanna’s “Take a Bow” as the capper to the same episode. Fantastic. Rachel also tackles “No Air,” a duet between her and Finn (Cory Montieth), as well as Wicked‘s “Defying Gravity,” with Kurt (Chris Colfer). “Bust Your Windows” was already released on Hulu and is a Mercedes (Amber Riley) showstopper. Mercedes handles the cover of Jill Scott’s “Hate on Me,” a number I saw performed live and it is AH-MAZING. “Keep Holding On” is a big group number pegged to a twist involving cheerleader Quinn (Dianna Argon). And I believe “Bust a Move” is another Will number.
What do you think of these song selections, Music Mix-ers? Will you buy the Glee soundtrack? And how excited for the September 9th premiere are you?

Just saying… defying gravity is going to be the greatest thing this side of Idina Menzel
I figured Lea Michele signing “Defying Gravity” as it would almost feel like her audition for a Wicked movie.
err singing and not signing..lol
Oh my goodness, I’m so excited for this show and album! I like how the show is using more than just Broadway music… “Gold Digger” is so much fun, and all of the arrangements I’ve heard so far are amazing.
*drool*
when does the CD come out?
First one comes out November 3.
as far as i am concerned, amber riley kicks lea michele’s ass in the singing department. jus sayin’
but they’re both very good. just amber’s better.
If you like them both why the need to compare?
On the tour Lea said she couldn’t compete with Amber and Amber said Oh yes you can.
Like them both or just leave the other out of it.
you can’t compare them, their voice’s are way too different.
Of course you can compare them, they both do the same thing- sing. If they happened to have the exact same voice then what would be the point of comparing them?
I was hoping Rehab would have been on the first CD
I am so incredibly excited for this soundtrack!!! There are songs I wouldn’t normally like that I’m pumped to hear from this cast!
But what I want to know is if and what Glee’s theme song will be. Because of all shows in the world, this show should have a theme song. Perhaps Don’t Stop Believin’???
I’m psyched for Glee and the soundtrack (does that make me a Gleek?). I find this show refreshing and utterly hilarious. What I like about the song is that they can pull songs from any genre and time and make them really great for a glee club. I’m especially excited about “Defying Gravity” and “No Air” because of the duet.
After the disappointment of seeing a watered-down PG version for Fame, at least I have Glee to look forward to. Can’t wait for the soundtrack!
LOVING the show!!!
Are we certain which “Defying Gravity” this is? There are a few other songs with that title. I want nothing more than it to be the Wicked version. I was even expecting it would debut on the Kristen Chenowith episode.
Doh. I see now the confirmation. SORRY!
Well, seeing as I’ve already bought about half of these songs on iTunes…. Unless more than 1 of these songs is a CD exclusive, I’ll probably pass.
Are the songs on the CD going to be the full versions of the song? Or just the episode versions? Or just some of the songs will be full versions? I would really love a full version of Mark Salling singing Sweet Caroline!
is there sheet music coming out for defying gravity?, i am absolutly in love with that song!
