The Lonely Island’s Incredibad is truly the gift that keeps giving. Lo, six months since the album’s release, I still sing a verse from “Boombox” or “Dreamgirl” every now and again when I need a little LOL. Evidently I’m not the only one: Check out this viral clip of the Saturday Night Live comedy troupe’s classic “I’m on a Boat,” as interpreted by a group of actual U.S. Navy sailors, below (some NSFW language).
This might be even better than the college a cappella “I’m on a Boat” that I loved a couple months ago. I mean, the production values on this thing are through the roof. Just look at that nautical-themed pashmina afghan! So real. Also, this video appears to have been shot on the deck of the U.S.S. John Paul Jones. Maybe it’s just me, but something about performing this song on a real-life guided missile destroyer just takes it to another level. Wouldn’t you say?

We have been on deployment for awhile, and we miss everything that makes us feel normal. I want to say that this has boosted our whole crew’s morale and we as JPJ sailors are so very proud of them and i am truly honored in serving with these fine junior officers. JPJ ROCKS THE BOAT!!!! And we still protect our country and her citizens. life, liberty, and the pursuit of all who threatens it. JPJ Always in Harm’s Way!!!
Before you praise the JPJ’s JOs you should really take note of the negative context implied i.e. conduct unbecoming, misue of government property, was the JPJ PAO even notified of the release of the video?
sailor f, according to the UCMJ, conduct unbecoming is defined as “using insulting or defamatory language to another officer in that officer’s presence or about that officer to other military persons.” I’m sure you’ll be amazed to know that the UCMJ doesn’t say anything about lip synching a song with profanity and for the record, none of these guys will face punitive or non-punitive charges. Before you look to prosecute them, you should know that I used much harsher language while being shot at by insurgents in Fallujah. Let me know if that offends and you and when you want to take me to court martial, I’ll be right there. Also, these guys didn’t misuse government property to make the video and the PAO probably helped with the editing. Lighten up and get a life.
