Probably because Kris didn’t have time to compose a self-penned single on tour, but he needed to get something out there quickly before his album comes out. I wish his first single weren’t a cover, but it makes sense with the time pressure. I hope 19E gives Kris a chance to show off his songwriting skills on his album.

Same way with David Cook. We got a cover for his first single, but his album was amazing, so you take what you can get. (= I was hoping for a song that showed of Kris’s lower register (which I love), but I do like this song a lot!
I don’t think many people know The Script, so it’s a new song to them. Plus like others have said it buys him some time for original stuff on the album.
David’s first hit was not a cover (Light On.)
David did not co-write his first single as he did the majority of the songs on the album. Light On however is not a cover since it was not perfomed by anyone else first.
Yeah, DC’s wasn’t a cover, and I’m really said that he was in the same list as Jordin Sparks and Fantasia. He has a lot more potential then I think he is been given credit for. I mean, he has had over 100 tour dates on his FIRST tour, and his album and single (Light On) have gone Platinum.
Yeah, “Light On” is not a cover. For a song to be a cover it must have been recorded and released by another artist first, but LO wasn’t. David is the first artist to perform it.
And I agree with Sarah. It pains me to see David grouped with Jordin and Fantasia. Both of those women are very talented but haven’t gone too far in their music careers, but David has a ton of potential to go very far. I think he’s got more staying power than Jordin or Fantasia.

the Script played a sold out show here in Minneapolis -not too long ago – I was pleasantly surprised. maybe the cover will help both artists.
I think people are misunderstanding what it means by cover. Kris owns this song. The Script will not be releasing it as a single. Ever.

Boy’s got soul, and his voice is gorgeous. Excellent choice for a first single – catchy, pretty, a little quirky but overall pretty mainstream. Can’t wait to hear what the actual album will be like!
Sounds like James Morrison meets Jon McLaughlin and they go out to a very pop-y club to dance.
