Michael Jackson 'This Is It' rehearsal: See the YouTube clip here

On the heels of last week’s full-trailer preview at the VMAs, a brief clip from the upcoming Michael Jackson concert doc This Is It recently hit YouTube. Watch the late superstar perform a snippet of his Thriller classic “Human Nature,” below:

Besides being painfully thin, the King of Pop looks and sounds surprisingly on-point in the footage — which is, clearly, a run-through rehearsal, and not meant to showcase a full-on performance of the song.

What do you think, readers — does it bode well for the movie (which will premiere simultaneously at 25 spots across the globe on October 27, before going wide for a two-week limited run the next day), and the live show that might have been?

I was too distracted by the frumpy, old fart standing in front of him – talk about out of place!

    • haha

that is the tour director, so not that much out of place, he’s important =P but this looked awesome, still can’t believe he’s dead… prob cause i still listen to his music every day

  • Emma

He looks thin…but his voice is amazing

    • Sally in Chicago

Very thin…rail thin…and very effeminate…more so than I remember him in younger days…do you think he finally came out of the closet?

      • Isabel

Now, why would you say such dumb thing?? MJ wasn’t gay accept it!

      • boi

sally in chicago: his frame wasn’t as different from pre- Off the Wall built and you insinuate something solele based on that? Maybe you are just jealous he looks so find and sounds so fine at age 50—oh I do believe he’d still be rocking it till the age of 60 or 62 if only people in the audience and around him weren’t so jealous.

hes always been effeminate, ever since thriller, even as a kid, the high voice, long hair, extravagant clothing, hes an enigma, i think its really cool, he was def NOT gay though bud. you can just tell with him

      • love nyc

Sally in Chicago is a hater who reads too many tabloids. MJ is not gay.

      • Elbs

MJ was not gay dude. Let it go. Read the book conspiracy for all you need to know on how the media trashed this man’s life.

He was very thin in this clip I noticed that but at the same time he was always thin, and he’d been training. But the thing is it didn’t affect the things that mattered which is that voice and the way he moved. I was amazed at how he sounded, it sounded just like the record. Sooo incredible! I’m on pins and needles to see this man in his element; incredible.

I know, it’s like 20 years or so are not between the original recording and this performance! Even at 50% he’s amazing. Makes me REALLY mad to think about all those stupid rumors that he can no longer sing, let alone dance!

  • topazbean

Ick, I Just don’t know if I want to deal with all the tragedy of it all over again. But given his performance there – could still sing, could still move, and when you see that all the snide remarks and sadness about what he did to his face just fades away – I will be going to see it.

  • ann onymous

He looks great and sounds great. I can’t wait to see more of the second part in the orange pants. This will prove the naysayers and the corrupt media wrong for the millionth time.

I LOVE Michael Jackson. When I say I love him I really do. I own all of his work… Everything ever released with his face on… FANATICAL! However, If you think i’m giving even 10% of the entrance fee to AEG Live you are sadly mistaken. Until I know who killed him I’m afraid I cannot watch the run up to his death. I’ll get it from Mininova FOR FREE when they release it on DVD at Christmas.

    • Elbs

Well said Simon Wood, well said. However I don’t believe the “real” truth as to who was behind killing MJ will ever come out.

  • Simon Wood

The fat nodding dog to the right of the screen says it all. Yes Michael, yes Michael, yes Michael…

  • Weffie

It’s clear to me from the footage of the trailer and this clip that he WANTED to do this concert. Despite what the family, etc. says about him being pressured, he really wanted it for himself. It makes me happy that he was doing something positive in his life. He lived for creating and working on his craft – he has said that himself. Can’t wait to see the movie to offer my support of his dream, which will be realized by the film. Kenny Ortega was a friend of MJ and had all of his support. MJ did not want his family running his life. Whether or not that was a good decision healthwise, it is what he wanted.

What I don’t understand is why they recorded everything in HD, all the rehearsals, almost as if they knew – or someone did – and that they would be selling this as a tribute – not as a live promotion. Amazing Michael, was always thin for those who followed him all his life that’s not unusual, not gay nor sinister, just sadly misunderstood and he is the greatest entertainer of our lifetime, never can be copied.

  • donna

he maybe thinn but he stilll gott ittt, his voice sounded greatt

  • tika

good looking, thin but energetic. great voice and movement. can’t believe he’s gone. love his hairstyle.

  • Mohammad

He was a perfectionist and always said it himself that he likes being recorded so he can look at himself and make corrections. lets not forget that this is a rehersal… so many movements may happen. he might even do a really sharp (ODD) movement so that it sticks in his head that this is the part that he puts his hand down (or something in this sense).. some dancers have various method of memorizing their steps… it could even go as far as light change or melody change. Trust me this guy was and in my opinion still is the best and most professional entertainer.

    • Erika

The sharp ODD movement at 11 sec is more like a wake up call to the keyboarder. Michael was like “hello? …here you have to play dude…I am waiting! “

  • Lighthouse

I would buy ticket to see this movie even if I know that all I’ll get is two hours of Michael Jackson looking straight at the camera, “talking” about his plans for the concert. I’d love to see this creative genius at work and his thought process. After all, who needs more proofs that this man is an extraordinarily talented singer and dancer? Then of course, having said that, watching Michael thriving in this rehearsal footage definitely makes me very emotional. It is amazing that after all the crap that he has endured over the last few years, he is still deeply passionate about his work. His singing and dancing are simply amazing! He still sets the stage on fire!

  • LAKSHITA SINGH

    I Love MIchael Jackson

  • Denise

Thanks Mohammad for clearing that up about the odd movement Michael made during that clip (9-10 sec). That totally makes sense. I was perplexed as to why he would do that jerky move until you cleared it up.
