Budding music star Leighton Meester has already had a great summer with her guest vocals on the hit Cobra Starship track “Good Girls Go Bad.” Now, after various leaked tracks popped up on the Internet, the actress is finally debuting her first official single, “Somebody to Love.”
The Gossip Girl star has been hard at work on her solo album, which she hopes to release before the end of the year, while dividing her time between the GG set and filming the 2010 thriller The Roommate. The sexy electronic-tinged track finds Meester dueting with Robin Thicke, whom Meester says she absolutely adores. “He’s so soulful, and his voice is so flawless and beautiful,” gushes the actress. “I don’t even think he knows how much I love him.”
Meester also says the track’s theme of searching for true love is something she personally struggles with. “I so often get love confused with sex and vice versa. And the song is basically about how I can’t get any—I can’t find anyone to love.”

Listening to the track right now and still waiting for some actual *singing* to take place…
This is terrible. Just a bunch of grunting. She sounds like a Britney-ripoff. Stick to acting, sweetie!
You are confused though. The point to posting this piece was not the music, it was just a way for EW to mention Gossip Girl. They are part of the Warner family, and try to plug CW shows as much as possible.
It is pretty sad actually.
“Good Girls Go Bad” is a fun track, but Leighton’s “singing” is certainly nothing special. Her voice sounds extremely thin even with all the autotune. Sorry, but this is one album I won’t be checking out.
I like Robin Thicke on this song (because he’s actually singing), but thoroughly unimpressed with Leighton’s part.
Autotune is having a field day.
I totally agree, Anna. I like the beat a lot, and I love Robin Thicke’s singing. Leighton’s singing is basically talking.
Awful song! L should stick to acting. So she broke up with her bf. Didn’t know.
evem blair waldorf ..wouldnt cosign 2 this crap
The chorus is nice….
When she tries to sound sexy its embarrassing. And it pains me to write this, cuz i LOVE her on Gossip Girl and the Cobrastarship song.
Body Control (a leaked track) is better than this. My guess is she has better songs, this was just a bad 1st single choice.
Yeah, that is not singing. Love Leighton, but I could be a singer with that much manipulation. If she broke up with Sebastian Stan, that is sad because he is hot.
But if you can’t stand someone, you can’t stand them, no matter how hot they are. Besides, she’s more attractive than he is, IMO.
I wish she had done something remotely ambitious – I had a little hope when I heard her rendition of “Bette Davis Eyes” but this was a major letdown. I guess Leighton isn’t as interesting as her alter ego Blair Waldorf.
she basically talked BDE also. she can’t sing.

I think it’s great!
It’s not like every cheap generic song that you normally find with actresses come singers. I definatly think it’s a grower. Can’t wait to see what else she releases
OMG, the girl can’t sing. Just horrible and embarassing. I liked her and Stan, too bad they broke up.
DIDN’T JAY-Z DO A SONG CALLED “DEATH OF AUTOTUNE”???? APPARENTLY SHE DIDN’T GET THE MEMO!!! NOTHING AGAINST LEIGHTON, I LOVE, “GOSSIP GIRL” BUT REALLY???
Gotta agree with mostly everyone here, that the only person singing on this track is Robin Thicke. And I love Robin Thicke, which makes me be interested in this song. And honestly, Meester is signed to Universal, and Thicke is of course on a Universal affiliated label. He should have kept this track for himself for his next album.
Robin Thicke should have recorded this as a solo cut. I dig the melody and his voice sounds as great as ever!
