'Glee' Exclusive: Madonna is on board! Is Adam Lambert next?

EW1073CVR_PROMO_UPCAre you sitting down, Gleeks? Well you might want to, because we have some exclusive Glee news that’s positively Madge-ical. EW has learned that Madonna has given Glee the rights to her catalog and that an all-Madonna-music episode is in the works for early next year. The hit series has been building an audience and filling the iTunes charts with its cover songs, and Madonna’s involvement is a testament to how big the show is getting. Also, an amazing Glee cover of a classic Madonna track has the potential to be even bigger than the show’s blockbuster take on “Don’t Stop Believin’.” Quinn totally has to do “Papa Don’t Preach.” And I can completely see Rachel tackling “Material Girl.”

But Madonna might not be the only pop star getting some Glee love. Co-creator Ryan Murphy tells EW that he’s considering approaching American Idol runner up Adam Lambert about appearing on the show (next year, Glee will be paired with Idol on Wednesday nights). Nothing is official yet but Lambert does seem like an ideal choice for Glee.

Which Madonna song do you wanna hear Glee cover, Music Mix-ers? What would you think about Adam Lambert possibly appearing on the show?

For more on Glee, check out EW’s cover story on the Fox phenomenon, on stands this Friday.

Love this cover. Will be picking up this issue.

  • graeme

That’s fun, but they’ve got to get more creative in their covers. They are becoming too much carbon copies of the originals.

  • Wow!!

How Madgetastic!!! That will be a must watch.

    • Redeye

      • Sasha

I don’t feel like Adam will be that convincing as an actor on Glee… maybe if he plays himself and only has a couple lines or something. Otherwise, I feel like it will be cringe-worthy ><

I don't recommend it. I'd rather see someone like Matt Giraud, Megan Joy, or Scott MacIntyre on Glee.

      • sparkle

@Sasha Matt Giraud, Megan Joy or Scott MacIntyre will be the ultimate in cringe worthy because they are not even noteworthy.

      • adamfan

All the posts about Adam and not one review of his video anywhere????? EW is slipping!! I’ve already seen it on myspace and youtube. I guess the album cover and title is worth discussing more!

      • jules

Please, no Glambert on Glee. I love this show, and I totally need a Glambert Free Zone somewhere. As much as I want to keep up with the faux pregnancy fall-out and also see the kids besides Rachel and Finn get some solos, I would tune out any week they stick Adam Lambert on this show. Kristin Chenoweth and her brand of over the top scenery chewing was bad enough. Lambert is more of the same, without the resume or awards!

  • Wow!!

oh… and they have to do LIKE A PRAYER! and EXPRESS YOURSELF!

    • Jackie

I was gonna say, I can totally hear Rachel singing “Like a Prayer”! Either that or “Crazy for You” in a serenade to Finn :)

      • I heart Glee

So many possibilities. Dress You Up, Open Your Heart, Into The Groove, Secret, Deeper & Deeper… wow. Why hasn’t Broadway done a musical out of M’s catalog ala Mamma Mia?

      • Chappel

I’d rather her Rachel sing “Crazy on You” by Heart. At least with that song she could show off her vocal chops.

      • BlackIrish4094

Crazy 4 You would be perfect. Or maybe Burning Up as a risque move for Rachel.

    • Jane

Ten bucks on Lea singing “Take a Bow”. It will be the second song she sings this season with that title, but Madonna’s version is a natural for a show like this.

      • Kate

Totally agree…Take a Bow would be perfect!

    • Nate

Oh no! I mean yes to them doing an all Madonna episode, that’s going to rock…. as long as they don’t touch Ray of Light or Like A Prayer, those two songs are holy and should be left alone.

The whole cast should do a huge Hung Up dance off though.

    • gigi

Nooo…Could you see Madonna as Quinn’s mother and Quinn singing “Papa Don’t Preach”…Love it! Love Madonna! Love Glee!!

      • mscisluv

Madonna is not actually going to be on the show, just her music.

    • ZeeZee

I can see the Finals now…and they do “Vogue”. Please please please don’t ruin this great show with horrible stunt casting of Adam Lambert…is he even relevant still?

      • sparkle

How is this show going to be ruined casting Adam Lambert? He can sing better than most of the cast and he knows how to act. Duh.

  • maskedavenger

    I want a Kyle-centric episode too!

    • Niles

Who’s Kyle? Do you mean Kurt? The “Preggers” ep was centered on him… I’d like to find out more about Tina and Mercedes as there is an Artie ep coming next month…

      • Brandon

Pretty sure maskedavenger meant Kylie like in Minogue.

      • Artemis

By kyle he may also mean Kyle McHale, aka Artie.

      • Donna

        That’s Kevin McHale.

    • KylieGlam

Kylie Minogue, right??? I’d LOVE to see the show open up to the most glamtastic pop star that middle America missed

  • tex

lol, I read the headline and thought madge was going to apear on glee and almost had a heart attack.

  • John C

I thought it meant Madonna was appearing on the show as well =(.

Good news, but maybe change the headline so as not to confuse.

  • Josh

I can’t stand Madonna, so that episode will be a bummer for me. But Adam Lambert and Glee do seem like a perfect fit.

    • Kerri

Yes they do. I hope Adam considers doing this. I also hope we see him on Idol singing one of his number hits, well not happened yet but it will! ;)

    • Amelle, 24

      Madonna is fabulous.

But IA, Adam and Glee are a perfect fit even though I’m not a fan of the show at all. I like Lambert though.

  • KM

This is amazing news! I definitely agree with Quinn doing Papa Don’t Preach. That would be perfect.
Rachel could do Borderline, with all the back and forth they’re doing. Or maybe even Like a Virgin.

    • Jen

Except she is a virgin, so “Like A Virgin” can go to Quinn. It’s perfect. Actually, several Madonna songs are.

    • googliezoo

Papa Don’t Preach would not make sense since a line from the song is; “but I made up my mind, I’m keeping my baby” which Quinn is not, unless she changes her mind. Eh, I guess they had her sing Keep Me Hanging On earlier this season and the lyrics to that did not match up to her situation with Finn either. Oh well.

      • james

But “Keep me hanging On” did fit her situation- she was singing about the cheerios and Sue and how they were keeping her holding on even though they didn’t really care about her.

    • michelekamay

      I love Bordeline!
And I also picture Rachel and all the girls singing “True Love” with the dance routines of the original video! So cute!

      • Aseh

My wife loved Glee, but was then mad when she found out the show wasn’t actually conimg until the fall! I’ll send her this post to help get her through the summer!

  • Ryan

I thought she was going to appear as well. Either way, the episode should be fun. Nothing would be more hilarious than seeing a Prom related episode with Kurt leading a performance to Vogue.

    • Ketchikan

Kurt leading Vogue is an inspired idea!

      • Curtis

        Oh absolutely, Kurt doing Vogue!

      • michelekamay

AMEN, KURT HAS TO DO “VOGUE” !!!!!

        Go GLEE <3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3 !

    • Bethann

100% agree. I’d love for the Glee kids to take on Vogue.

    • Amanda

YES! Vogue is PERFECT for Kurt!!!

  • Andrea

Adam, with his theater background, would be a great choice for the show!

    • jb

he might not want to do it though, since theatre’s not his jam. i’m sure it’s still in his heart but it just paid his bills really.

  • Fan

So is Adam going to be Kurt’s love interest?

    • Kerri

What is it with trying to get Kurt a love interest? LOL Well Adam did say he likes them younger and smaller……..but Kurt? Really? lol

      • WOAH

OH PLEASE LOL. There’s no way they’d cast Adam as his love interest! I don’t think Adam would be comfortable playing a little BOY’s love interest either lmao. Smaller and younger is just a phrase, I don’t think he quite goes for 17 year olds rofl. I can see him giving him some life advice though. That would be really sweet.

      • Curtis

No but they could do a Kurt-crush type of episode with Lambert making a surprise visit to the school. (And Adam trying to be nice and dodge Kurt’s flirtations at the same time!) That’d be hilarious.

  • Lala

Adam is more of a TV star than a music star–singing covers on FOX suits him perfectly IMO.

    • Kerri

Yeah Lala WE all know what you think of Adam. You have said it on nearly every Adam article. Get over it already. He is a music star, what YOU think of that won’t change that! Shhhessh!

    • @Lala

      Ugh, you again.

    • del

I’d say he’s a music star now. His first single (Time for Miracles from the movie 2012) is in the iTunes top 10, 1 day after being released.

      • terie

And #1 at Amazon. Plus the video debuted online at myspace.com/music. Check it out. AWESOME!!

  • Julia

I’m just here to say that this EW cover is a travesty- how could you exclude Jane Lynch, aka Sue, from the cover shot?? Hello??

  • Nicole

This is awesome!! When I first saw the tweet, I thought Madonna was going to appear, but this is so much better (Madonna + acting is never good). And yes to Adam appearing – I would love that.

Also awesome? The cover of the magazine! I can’t wait to get this in the mail!

    • Jane

      Agreed in every way.

    • D

Disagree- she was great in Desperately Seeking Susan and Evita.
