50 Cent’s long-awaited Before I Self-Destruct arrived as an exclusive iTunes Music Store offering today in an effort to combat widespread leaks; physical CDs will follow next Monday. Read on for EW’s review.
50 Cent
Before I Self-Destruct
Rap (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope)
After months of release-date delays and speculation about his commercial future, you might expect 50 Cent to be gunning for a pop crossover hit. Instead, he spends most of his fourth solo album doubling down on the kind of gritty gangsta-isms that will impress his most devoted fans even if they alienate many others. Growling violent threats over hard beats, 50 sounds the hungriest he has in years. Of course, there’s nothing remotely original about the formula he’s returning to, but at least he’s going through the motions with gusto. B– —Simon Vozick-Levinson

“Baby By me” Feat. Ne-Yo is the pop crossover hit he had been searching for to launch the album. As soon as I heard the track in August, I was like, okay, so they’re finally going to release it now…Anyways, i think the $9.99 price tag on itunes htis week for the deluxe version with both his film and the Jam Master Jay documentary is a great price for any hip-hop fan. But its for this week ONLY.
Does anyone really care about him anymore?
50 Cent = Rap’s Nickleback.
Hilarious!
let him self-destruct already .. sheesh
Best 50 cent album since Get Rich Or Die Trying. Album of the Year contender, easily better than The Blueprint 3. Its not for the suburbs though.
That psycho song wass sooooooo good. Eminem and 50 cent are like the two coolest people ever
Time for this JOKER and lip-syncing Britney to go away!!! May the ‘The Cure’, ‘Duran Duran’ and ‘Depeche Mode’ rise again as the musical titans they were before!!!
