On last night’s American Music Awards, Jennifer Lopez debuted both her new single, “Louboutins,” and her excellent reflexes, which were on display after she bit it onstage and then deftly popped back up. Still, the whole performance yielded only one reaction from me: J. Lo needs to move on from her recording career. She had some fun, catchy songs (“If You Had My Love,” “Love Don’t Cost a Thing”), but trying to regain musical relevance by singing about pricey high-heels just seems a little sad. I say focus on getting the movie career back on track (I would weep with joy if she reunited with Out of Sight co-star George Clooney and director Steven Soderbergh!). Don’t worry about the fans of your music—we will always have the memory of your best song/video, “Waiting for Tonight,” to get us through the day. As far as I’m concerned, dancing in the jungle amid lasers is a fine musical legacy.

Omg people her performance was not that bad!! She’s isnt making the best choices when it comes to songs but she doesnt need to retire!
I think her best song may be “Play,” but “Waiting for Tonight” is a very close second. As for that Out Of Sight reteaming, I don’t think that will ever happen since she’s was a total beast on the set.
I was thinking the same thing. My friends and I were actually trying to name a Jennifer Lopez song the other day and couldn’t think of anything, and that’s probably because she has put out so many mediocre songs for so long that it’s whiped our memories clean of anything good or relevant.
Now I remember Waiting for Tonight and Love Don’t Cost a Thing… I really liked the latter for awhile.
I have to completely agree with you. She should really take a moment to find some creative energy to put into her music or focus her talents elsewhere.
Hello? What about Let’s Get Loud? That was like the country’s anthem the summer it was released.
Um, what country would that be?
First of all .. She does NOT SING! she has no music talent to speak of … she should ‘retire from singing’ so she can finally stop pretending and move on.
JHo should’ve gone the way of the dinosaurs years ago.
Oh, please, it’s not like every single song released by every artist has been fantastic. Just because this one is bad, it doesn’t mean her music career is over. She still has plenty of fans. I admired the way she stood up and kept on dancing along with the choreography as if nothing had happened. She didn’t miss a beat. If you haven’t noticed by now how resilient this woman is, then you haven’t been paying attention to her career, Stack!
I think the fact that the only two songs of hers I can think of were released more than 10 years ago is a bigger indicator that she’s no longer musically relevant.
Wow that first album was over 10 years ago now wasnt it?? yeah she was done after that terrible “Rebirth” album that I wasted $15 on! A second album flop should effectively hault her music career, only Mariah can make a comeback after a string of flops and she is for sure no Mariah!
If anyone has doubts about her acting ability, do check out Out Of Sight. She’s amazing in it.
ok … It was a good movie like hhmm 10 yrs ago!!!! how about now?? what can we check this past 3 yrs???
It was actually a half-decent track.
I am sorry I missed the fall. I’ve always wanted to see a performer in high heels fall. Some of those heels are just ridiculous.
when she fell she was wearing some unflattering black/gold sneakers. she hadn’t put on her Louboutins yet.
Stack you’re just talking smack!! hehe.. regardless of that saying, I’ll admit I think she is a better actress than singer, but not every song is going to be dynamite.. I think she still has some good songs to churn out..
J.Lo has to fulfill her contract with Sony/BMG no matter what. (although, if someone wants to do some digging and figuring out, how many more albums she owes them…) The record business has been hurting for a while, and now after two tepid singles from this “Love?” album, I’m wondering if J.Lo is even going to pursue this ridiculous Lola persona, since there was not one thing promoting Lola last night on the American Music Awards performance. It’ll be interesting to see how they try & promote her now, since Shakira’s album FINALLY dropped this week, and has had two back to back radio hits, and should have a third with “Did It Again” with Kid Cudi (the SuperChumbo Remix for the clubs is SICK!). Honestly, had Shakira’s album dropped when it was originally intended things might be a little easier for La Lopez, but as of right now, she has the spotlight.
I was thinking the same thing! She’s over 40, she has 2 babies at home, why doesn’t she stay home, raise her babies, live off the ridonkulous amount of money she’s made, then go back to making awesome movies. And singing about Louboutins probably isn’t the greatest idea when the unemployment rate is where it is. Times have changed since “Love Don’t Cost a Thing”
I have really liked a lot of J.Lo’s older tracks such as “I’m Real,” “Waiting for Tonight,” “Love Don’t Cost a Thing,”and even “Jenny from the Block, but its been awhile since I’ve liked anything she’s come out with lately.
Its not her greatest song ever, but its not that it was horrible. Her performance wasn’t awful either, I mean none of them last night were great. All good artists have had some bad songs at some point. Really though, look at her and Janet. How many 40 year olds can still move like that. Give her some credit
I know this is waaaay off topic, but isn’t it sad that when I watched the ‘Waiting For Tonight’ video and saw her with little jewels all over her face I thought, “Hey, so that’s what Edward was supposed to look like!”
Sorry, but it seemed necessary to point out that the music video actually pulled off some nice effects.
Also, I would love to see J.Lo. make some new (good) movies. She’s an enjoyable actress to watch.
