Justin Timberlake protege Matt Morris: Listen here and weigh in!

Singer-songwriter and Mickey Mouse Club vet Matt Morris releases his debut tomorrow, titled When Everything Breaks Open, on Justin Timberlake’s Tennman Records (an affiliate of Interscope). It’s worth noting that Morris co-wrote Kelly Clarkson’s “Miss Independent,” but those looking for hardcore pop here are likely to be disappointed: Timberlake produced the record alongside the multi-faceted Charlie Sexton, and the latter’s influence is certainly all over the bluesy feel of the tracks available on Morris’s MySpace page — especially de facto first single, “Money,” the recording of which you can hear a snippet of above.

Morris has a pleasant, supple voice, and a light style that places him square in the center of the current boy-folk crop of John Mayers and Eric Hutchinsons and Mason Jenningses (though the latter’s more or less moved on of late). Not sure if he’s likely to find more than a cult following and a few Grey’s Anatomy spots, but he’s certainly got the lineage to do much more. What do you think, Mixers? Is to your liking?

Matt has a fantastic voice. His type of alternative rock dosen’t sell alot but I’ve heard several tracks on his album and seen him in concert and he is fantastic. The album is worth buying.

So, I totally remember Matt from MMC, a show with which I was OBSESSED when I was like 10-13. It always brings a smile to my face when a former MMC kid makes good. When I was in high school, the Disney Channel had an all-day marathon of old MMC episodes in celebration of all of the people from that show that made it big in the late 90s, and I totally still have that on VHS somewhere…

Lol, if my name was Randi, I’d be certain that I’d wrote this post. I have that tape somewhere too.

LOL…this got me thinking, and I started digging through all my old VHS tapes last night. I found a lot of tapes full of *NSYNC TV appearances, and underneath that, my MMC tape! Classic.

Matt’s album is amazing. A must hear for sure. It’s time for someone truly talented to become famous.

    Jack Nicholson warned you!

Finally. He’s had vocal chops since he was teeny and now, 15 years later, we can hear them again

Matt will be performing on David Letterman this friday the 15th, then on Ellen on the 19th. If you’ve never heard him you should watch and buy his album. It’s really good.

    Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Hey Whitney…I’d watch those Eric Hutchinson comparisons. I compared Eric to Jason Mraz to his face and he not only made a frowny face but was clearly irked. I could only imagine how he’d feel being compared to Matt here! Anyways, I’m all about expanding my iTunes library but, gotta say, from the imbedded clip…I’m kinda bored. Even the darkness of the studio clip is kinda uninspiring.

Go listen to Matt’s song the UnAmerican. Or go listen to the whole song of Money. This clip is not the album version. Unless your more into artists that do club songs or use auto-tune Matt’s music is real music. Not boring at all. He was terrific at Bonnaroo and everyone loved him.

YAWN! We already have Jason Mraz!

I really like his style. It has a Jamiroquai feel to it. I’ll find more to listen to, for sure!
