'Everybody Hurts': the new video for Simon Cowell's Haiti-relief song will make you cry

Last week, dozens of bold-faced names gathered to sing a new edition of “We Are the World,” but the music industry’s outpouring of support for the devastation in Haiti doesn’t stop there. The star-studded, Simon Cowell-produced remake of the R.E.M. classic, “Everybody Hurts,” hit U.K. radio last week. The song is melancholy and inspiring, especially considering the contributions from such folks as diverse as Leona Lewis, Miley Cyrus, Mariah Carey, Susan Boyle, Rod Stewart, and Jon Bon Jovi. But it’s the recently released video, which is filled with tragic images from the mess in Haiti, that will get your waterworks really going:

How many times during that six minutes did you whip out your cell phone and text $10 for Haitian relief? Yah, that’s what I thought. I can’t wait to see my cell phone bill this month.

But, Music Mixers, what are you thinking of this R.E.M. remake? Are does it move you to give? Buy? Do you think that this is better than the forthcoming “We Are the World” remake will be?

I’ll admit it, when i first heard this song (without the vid) I was annoyed.

But, like Single Ladies (I know, inappropriate) the video makes the song.

I think this is a great idea but for me, I’ll donate directly to the charities.

But the video is an excellent poster to inspire donation for those who haven’t already, IMO.

I usually hate that song, but I have to say the video got me crying pretty early on.

So I wonder if rage Against the MAchine and tehir angry co-horts still think Simon Cowell and his shallow artists are the worst thing to ever happen to music. RATM could never achieve something on this level. AMAZING! Kudos to Cowell and everyone involved.

Weird choice for a song. “Buck up, everyone has it rough once in a while”.

To those who think the song is the wrong choice, I’ll humbly submit my thoughts when I listen to it:
It makes me think that the artists are calling out to the victims to hang on and keep up their hopes, that they understand and feel their despair and we all cry with them and extend our hands to help them rebuild their lives because we are their friends. So let’s just sing along to drum up the courage to tackle the difficulties lying ahead.
Love to all and God bless.

Tears flowed from the beginning to the end. I must do more to help. I am excited about this project and the help it is bringing. Thank you to all who are extending a helping hand.

I agree with the person that said the video makes the song. Amazing. Does anyone know if this will be released in the US?
