Image Credit: Andrew EcclesRenée Fleming is an accomplished soprano who’s well respected in the opera world. Verdi, Handel, and Strauss are the type of composers she’s typically associated with. On her new album Dark Hope, though, Fleming is taking on songs by alt-rockers like Muse, Arcade Fire, and the Mars Volta. It’s a risky proposition, but it could pay off — Fleming certainly has the vocal strength to make a song her own.
Check out the track list for Dark Hope after the jump. The album is due this spring. Do you think you’ll check it out? Which of Fleming’s covers are you most looking forward to hearing? Can opera and rock mix?

Very intrigued to hear her interpretation of Duffy’s “Stepping Stone” … should be interesting !
Mad World? Oh I can’t wait. Fleming was the featured soprano on the LOTR:Return of the King soundtrack. Awesome pipes!
Band of Horses? This could be awesome!
Interesting! Renee also so has extensive jazz experience, so it doesn’t surprise me she can tackle rock as well.
I’m pleased to note the comments from the rock fans are more generous than the Opera Fans..I’m looking forward to hearing the finish product as I was present for some of the recording.
Wow,I love her and she looks so beautiful in this photo. Can’t wait to hear he on the Arcade Fire song, one of my favorites.
