The Late Night host’s Worldwide Pants, Inc. has just started a record label called Clear Entertainment/C.E. Music. Letterman’s first signee, announced this morning via press release, is Huntington Beach, Calif. pop-punk quintet Runner Runner.
Runner Runner’s self-titled debut is due late this summer on C.E. Music in partnership with Capitol and MRV. You can hear lead single “So Obvious” right now on their MySpace. Their sound seems to be pretty generic mall-punk, but “So Obvious” is far from the least catchy tune I’ve heard this week. I could definitely see this becoming a hit. Give it a listen, then let us know what you think of Letterman’s new venture.

Well its no where near as good as Justin Bieber
or Adam Lambert. Remember when EW tried to force him down our throats…good times.
A Down Syndrome kid with a ukulele is better than Justin Bieber.
And Justin Bieber is still better than you.. wow “real crispy” don’t insult yourself like that. I worry about you sometimes.
As for the song…very generic. Thumbs down. Is that what they are calling pop-punk nowadays. The word punk should not be associated anywhere near this kind of music.
That’s why pop is in front of the punk. Quality isn’t what makes a genre either.
By inserting pop in front of the word punk just makes nerds feel cool thinking they are listening to a form of punk. The song sucks.
They are actually pretty good… I’ve been a fan for a while and of their songs so obvious is my least favorite… idk y they advertize that one
Letterman has always been interested in music, Paul always books very cool and cutting edge guests. Remember, Letterman was one of the first vocal supporters of “Nine Inch Nails”, praising them on his show many times.
Well, at least this is better news than Perez Hilton getting his own label.
I guess he was running out of interns to screw at NBC.
You mean CBS I assume?
A$$.
Wow Dave, with all your dough and after hearing music every night for how many years… you sign a punk pop band that will be forgotten before their first tour. You could have signed a career artist putting out solid songs who has a depth to them… An artist that will be around for years to come.
Typical I guess in the downward spiral of Letterman who was SO awesome in the early 80′s and even more awesome during his Summer run morning show… Oh well Dave, you gotta realize you’ve lost it now and you are rubbish. You’re interview w Joaquin Phoenix showed your cruel side all too blatantly. You don’t know about artists or art and your own talent has saturated down to a level of mediocrity that should embarrass you.
Give up now Dave before you diss yourself harder than you did the night you had to out your infidelities…
I used to be your biggest fan… Now i could care less. Your interview with Eddie Murphy was rubbish too — come to think of it… when are you going to step down and retire?
A record man you are not… That is a trained profession, you first foray in to label land is a joke…
Stay at home with your kid…
Not to be overly negative — but it’s time to go…
Radio Disney, here they come! That song sucks.
Wow…My Morning Jacket;
The Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs; Fall Out Boy; Vampire Weekend; …all rolled into one !
How can it miss ?
Ugh !
Does Paul Schaeffer have co-ownership of Letterman’s record company? Because if he’s involved, I’d say it’ll be a success. Paul has his finger on the music pulse like not very many others.
It wasn’t the most generic thing I’ve heard this month. Maybe the second most. Don’t think I’ll be hearing this on the radio any time soon.
It’s the LATE SHOW, not Late Night. Idiot.
Sorry chessguy99; didn’t mean to respond to you.
you guys don’t even know what your talking about!I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A RUNNER RUNNER FAN AND THEY ARE SOME OF THE MOST TALENTES, DOWN TO EARTH GUYS YOU WILL EVER MEET!! they don’t suck!
AND YOU KNOW WHAT, YOU GUYS OBVIOUSLY DON’T KNOW MUSIC IF YOU SAY THAT SONG IS GENERIC. YOU ARE SAYING THEY WILL BE FORGOTTEN,YEAH NOT WITH THEIR AWESOME SONGS.RUNNER RUNNER, I LOVE YOU GUYS AND I KNOW YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL AND IF YOU DON’T BECOME SUPERSTARS, WELL WHATEVER. I KNOW YOU GUYS HAVE FUN WITH GOING ON TOUR AND PLAYING FOR YOUR FANS. I DON’T RESPECT THE PEOPLE THAT LISTEN TO ONE OF YOUR SONGS AND THEY THINK THEY KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU. JUST BECAUSE POP IS IN FRONT OF THE PUNK IN THE TYPE OF MUSIC, DOES NOT MEAN ANYTHING!I WISH PEOPLE COULD ACTUALLY GO TO ONE OF THEIR CONCERTS AND REALIZE HOW REAL THESE GUYS ARE. THEY ALL PLAY INSTRUMENTS, YOU DON’T HAVE YOUR CRAPPY PEOPLE PLAYING RANDOM KEYBOARDS AND TRYING TO RAP(WHICH IS NOT SINGING BY THE WAY). THEY ALL HAVE A DREAM TO MAKE THE PEOPLE HAPPY, AND ALL OF YOU PEOPLE SAYING BAD THINGS MUST BE DEBBIE DOWNERS.I;M JUST SAYING GIVE RUNNER RUNNER A CHANCE. THEY DESERVE IT JUST LIKE ANY OTHER BANDS.
