eminem-katy-perryImage Credit: Karin Catt; Ari MichelsonKaty Perry‘s “California Gurls” reigned at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for six weeks. But it’s over now. When the entire chart is released tomorrow, Eminem‘s Rihanna-assisted “Love The Way You Lie” will be No. 1 and Perry No. 2. This is the Detroit rapper’s fourth Hot 100 No. 1. single, and the second from his latest, Recovery. His first single from this album, “Not Afraid,” debuted at No. 1. Em’s having an amazing day; this morning we reported that he’s also got the No. 1 album in the country again.

No one new entered the top 10 this week. B.o.B’s “Airplanes” stays at No. 3, Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite” moves from No. 6 to No. 4. Usher’s former No. 1, “OMG,” drops one place to No. 5. Mike Posner’s “Cooler Than Me” moves up one to No. 6. While “Billionaire” by Travie McCoy falls two places to No. 7. “I Like It” by Enrique Iglesias holds at No. 8. Drake’s “Find Your Love” stays at No. 9. And Jason Derulo’s “Ridin’ Solo” remains at No. 10.

What do you think of Eminem’s run? Are you a fan of Recovery and it’s singles? Think Katy can regain her No. 1 spot? Let us know.

    It’s also Rihanna’s 7th #1. And her 15th Top 10. You go girl.

    • Phil

Why the heck is this trash on the top 10?! None of these songs on this list are nearly as good as any song Justin Bieber has ever sang! UGHHHH! Idiots!

      • Phil

If you’re going to attempt to make me look bad by using MY NAME ON HERE, please stop, because I’ve been a long-time poster for years & I find you blatantly trying to post ‘cripy-isms’ (yes, maybe I’m related to Senator Palin) as offensive & childish as his/her comments. I have nothing against Justin Bieber but I am NOT a super fan/Belieber. He could never ever release another song and I’d be happy. I won’t have my name or informed comments soured by poor taste & intellect to match.

      • :P

No one cares about either of you. I didnt read the comment and think “Oh my gosh Phil said that?!” and how would he make you look bad if no one here knows you??

      • Phil

My name is also Phil and I too am a long time poster at ew and I resent the fact that Phil no.2 would impersonate me as someone who would reply to fake Phil. When I reply I start off with my signature “in regard to”. Phil no.2, I am warning you to cease and desist impersonating me.

      • Phil

Hey Phil this HELLO person below MUST be referring to our impostor!! Only a younger man could possibly be into Justin Bieber….LMFAO Hope that made everyone laugh

      • Preston

I like the songs in the top 10 right now. It just matches perfectly to the hot summer months with the high charged dance heavy rhythms and beats.

    • Maureen

That Rihanna reign just won’t let up. ;)

    • Miss Talk

7#1 hits, yeah, the big deal. She’s a featured artist on two of them (at least): “Live your life” and “Love the way you lie” and sings the same (boring) lines throughout the songs.
This song isn’t that great, it’s quite annoying. It hit #1 because it’s Eminem’s big comeback and because EVERYBODY in the music business is on leave this summer: Britney, Bey, Pink, Justin Timberlake, BEP, Kanye…Ciara should have just released her (always average)stuff already.
I give Eminem props for knocking off “California Crap” from the #1 spot. I really can’t stand that song. I can’t believe Katy Perry had the nerve to dub it the answer to “Empire State of Mind”, and I still can get over the fact that Snoop Dogg has become a sell out SMH.

      • cheryl

nearly everyone you mentioned on the list sucks. WTF half of them are half-lit stars. with the exception of britney i doubt eminem and rihanna will face any comp. if britney were there at all katy’s trashy song wouldn’t be #1 for so many weeks. kanye? what a joke.pink is featured on one of eminem’s singles on recovery. do your research before posting arrogant yet meaningless opinions.

      • Phil

I find it remarkable that you mention Kanye who not only has a new single, “Power” (EW seems to love it…its the 1st time other than “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” I’ve disliked a lead single of his), Pink is working her contemporary adult/top 20 hit “Glitter In The Air” to pop radio, and Justin is featured on his artist Esmee Denter’s new single, “Love Dealer” & Beyonce is working the 2 yr old “Why Don’t You Love” me to urban radio, and if it becomes a hit prolly then top 40…guess you talk the talk, but don’t care too much bout facts….

      • d

AHAHA Does Miss Talk know that all the summer big names she mentioned dont have half the amount of Summer Hits Rihanna has. Yeah im sure theyre much bigger names but in the summertime, RiRi always has killed it.

      • u

Yeah, and I wonder for how many more summers Rihanna will have hits… you can only get away with minimal oops, I mean NON-EXISTENT talent for so long once the public inevitably tires of your image.

    • etm

Katy Perry is quite possibly the most irritating person on Earth.

  • Albion

yeah – im so happy – that EM is back – the last album Recovery is just the best, also the hit love the way you lie – i love it -

  • bruno

good bye katy perry’s quest for song of the summer.

    • Karate Pants

      And good riddance!

      • austinrob

Amen to that! Minute #13 for Katy.

  • JC

Tik Tok 2.o had its time . Happy for Emimen, Dynamite should be #1 next

    • u

“Tik Tok 2.0″, LOL. I call it “Disco Tik Tok”.

  • Damon

Yes..Rihanna has seven number 1 singles now..the other girls will have to play catch up! Yes!!!!! But the song is very good and I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets grammy noms..the lyrics are haunting and for Rihallah to sing the chorus is crazy, but brilliant!

    • u

I’m pretty sure this song would’ve been just as successful without her, she’s an afterthought. Rihanna is good for catchy club singles, but I would never lay down money to buy her albums or see her live. She ain’t worth it.

      • Alley B

I guess maybe it would have, but it she carry with her an terrible experience that brings far more endearing depth to song…… “when its bad, its awful, I feel so ashamed,
I snap whose that dude? I don’t even know his name.
I laid hands on her, I’ll never stoop so low again.” it’s the line Chris should be singing to her… (side note: for first time ever we have Rapper saying it… Crazy world.) And really I can’t think of another R&B singer, with the same soft powerful tone she has that so many are already familiar with & love

      • u

That “soft, powerful tone” is courtesy of pitch-correcting software. Hear her live, and it’s a different story.

      • cheryl

now i am not a rihanna fan, i seriously have never heard most of her songs, but come on. EM says he feels Ri is the only one who can pull off something like that. Afterthought my foot.

      • u

“EM says he feels Ri is the only one who can pull off something like that.”
Probably because she can personally relate to the lyrics, I’m sure that’s what he meant. NOT because she has this great, special voice. Like I said, check her out live, and you’ll see what I mean.

  • beb

I doubt Katy will regain the #1 spot…radio airplay is starting to drop and she’s fallen to #3 on iTunes (behind EmRi and Taio). We’ll probably see LTWYL at #1 for a while…

    • Jase

I think her new single is released next week, so as soon as Cali Gurls falls she has a new one waiting to take over.

      • Alley B

That song immature crappy song can’t fall fast enough for me. It’s made the radio at work painful to listen to. God I hope the next one is more the of the perry of song I was hoping for with this one..

      • Alley B

Sorry multi-tasking related incident.. (: One more time. — That crappy immature song can’t fall fast enough for me. It’s made the radio at work painful to listen to. God I hope the next one is more the perry-esque type of song, I was hoping for with this one..

      • cheryl

stupid song. it is the most annoying thing ever. i hope it recedes from the chart altogether.

      • u

        I can’t believe a blatant rip-off of “Tik-Tok” ever reached #1…

    • Phil

Hey beb hope you’re not sweating too much up in Beantown! I know you a slave to charts so I have to point out, that “CA Gurls” actually topped an airplay chart this week, but yeah I think it going back to #1 on the Hot 100 seems unlikely. The next Perry single is the title track, “Teenage Dream” and is being released to radio in 2 weeks. My personal fave song of the moment is the new Sara Bareilles “King of Anything” …. her album isn’t coming til September so I can understand top 40′s waitm but its her most infectious song yet!

  • Eric

    IMO he has done better..

But there are are some good songs on Recovery..

    • Alley B

Umm, ok, but when? He spit the very first Triple Endendre on this album, that alone put this Album at the top of his legacy. He’s NEVER spit wordplay with this much dept on a commercial album before. Not to mention it is the personal, emotionally driven, honest, and moving album he ever done! Without a doubt this is Eminem’s best album to date!!

      • Alley B

        dept = depth

  • matthew

His best album since TES (2002) which was a classic and the best selling album that year. More of the same here, and I’m hoping Em gets his nose in front and becomes artist of the decade for the second time!

  • E-Hustle

Eminem deserves the success of the album and this single. Also I am not the biggest RiRi fan, but whoever said it would have been just as good wihout her is a complete miserable hating loser. That girl owned this song. There are so many better singers than her, but she was meant to be heard on this song.
I hope the video does the song justice. Because the lyrics, production, and chorus demand a high quality visual concept. I wished Em & RiRi played out the parts, but they hired others to do it. Damn.

    • cheryl

yeah, thanks for being articulate, i feel the same as you do.

    • Phil

I’m OK with the stars of the video, as long as Em brings out RiRi at Yankess Stadium in September to perform the song live!

    • u

Have you heard her sing live, without studio technology? Forget not being a great singer from a technical standpoint, she has no passion, no emotion in her singing whatsoever. There is NOTHING unique about her voice. In order for me to be a “miserable hating loser”, I would have to envy her lack of talent and overall generousness, which I don’t. But it’s nice that you’re mature enough to resort to personal insults whenever someone disagrees with you. I’m not a hater. I can’t stand Lady Gaga, but you wouldn’t catch me calling her talentless. I can be objective. Rihanna may not have murdered this song (on the recording, anyway), but she didn’t work any special wonders with it, either. Get real.

      • u

“overall GENERICNESS” is what I meant, sorry. Also, Eminem has done few collaborations in his career, yet nearly all his songs go to #1 anyway. This song would’ve been no exception without Rihanna, so no need to defend non-existent talent.

      • @u

actually, only four of em’s songs have gone to number 1…the song works so well BECAUSE of the collaboration…can’t we all agree that both of them killed it and leave it be instead of hating on talented people?

      • u

“Hating on talented people”? Who said I was hating on Eminem, I actually like him as a rapper, even if I’m not a fan of all his material.

  • dipshat

I don’t like emienem, but i have to admit ‘love the way you lie’ was pretty, prettty, pretty good.

  • Tom

I think Eminem will last a week at best, since it took so long to climb to the top. Katy had a nice run, with an admittedly good ‘summer song’ and i think she is likely to take the song of the summer spot. California gurls has the commercial appeal to possibly regain the spot, but next week i wouldn’t be surprised to see dynamite at number 1.

    • u

“California Gurls” is annoying as hell, I think people will eventually go crazy having to endure its run at the top spot any further.

    • beb

I’d like to see Dynamite at #1 next week as well, but it’s still lagging a bit on airplay (ranking #11 in spins for the past 7 days on both Top 40 and Rhythmic radio). With it holding at #2 on iTunes, I see it moving up a spot to #3 next week, switching spots with Airplanes. California Gurls will hold at #2 on airplay, while Love The Way You LIe will stay on top based on sales and massive gains in airplay (+2301 spins on Top 40, +855 on Rhythmic).

  • 4rocket

I think it says a lot about the music tastes of the people who visit this site when they bash talented bands like Big Star and Muse, yet will relentlessly defend crap acts like Rihanna and Taylor Swift, two people with no real talent to speak of. Hey “E-Hustle”, tell me exactly what did Rihanna do with this song that Hayley Williams, Kelly Rowland, Keri Hilson or any other semi-relevant, moderately talented female pop/R&B singer couldn’t do just as well or better?

  • 4rocket

And before people respond to me with a self-righteous lecture about how I should be more accepting of music genres, this is not a pop vs. rock debate at all. It’s simply a question of how do people stick by pathetic excuses for musicians, yet at the same time criticize talent that actually does something different and original.

  • CHUBB

hey u why are you hatin riri so bad for, if she isnt talented then why has she had a record deal since she was 16. oh yea and eey single singer who records uses corrective voice software i know because i am a producer and can tell by the clarity of t that there wasnt much touch up work done to her hook.

    • u

      Punctuation, USE THEM!!!

  • Preston

Remarkable 6 weeks that Katy Perry had with her summer themed hit at No.1, but all things must end. Eminem’s record with Rihanna is solid enough a song to dethrone it at No. 1. But I really wanted Enrique Iglesias’ song to do it–I’ve heard it quite a lot, but maybe it’s at 8 or 10 now,not enough strength at this moment to make it to No. 1. Maybe in mid to late August, just not in July.
