Image Credit: Jonathan MannionLast night incarcerated rapper Lil Wayne did his first interview since he entered New York’s Rikers Island last March. Phoning New York’s Hot 97 radio DJ Funkmaster Flex from jail, Wayne ran through his daily routine (“I call my my mother, my kids. You know I’ve got a lot of kids to call”) and promoted his upcoming I Am Not a Human Being EP. “It’s going to drop before Tha Carter IV, only on the internet,” Wayne said. “This is stuff that I recorded right before I came here.” The EP hits e-waves on his birthday, September 27.
Shortly after, rival station Power 105.1 debuted the EP’s lead single, “Right Above It.” The triumphant cut features hip-hop prince Drake. It’s not new territory for Wayne lyrically: He raps about women, cash, and loyalty. For avid fans, it will likely just tide them over until he’s released from jail this October to create a fresh batch of music. You can give it a listen here.
