Lady Gaga cross-dressing in new magazine spread? She's a man, baby!

gaga-vogue-japanImage Credit: Vogue Homme JapanShe is, persistent online trollery aside, neither anatomically male, nor a hermaphrodite, though the rumor still lives strong (hey, even Barbara Walters asked).

But Lady does look very much like a dude on the cover of Japan’s new Vogue Hommes September issue.

Fans of the internet likely saw these same shots in late June, when Perez first tweeted one of the pics with the title “my hubby,” and many gossip sites speculated that the model “Jo Calderone” was, in fact, the young miss born Stefani Germanotta.

Reps for the star have yet to dispute the magazine’s conceit that its cover model is in fact an Italian mechanic, and a paramour of Gaga’s, as per the following brief interview with “him” that accompanies the photo shoot inside:

Where are you from?
Palermo, Sicily
How would you describe what you do / your occupation?
Mechanic for my dad’s business. This is the first time I’ve had my picture taken.
When did you discover you wanted to do this?
Well, I always helped my dad at work, since I was a kid. I thought it would be fun to have my picture taken.
What are your ambitions?
I’d love to own my own car shop, I have a bunch of my own ‘muscle’ cars. Maybe if I take some more pictures I can afford it.
What is your relationship with Lady Gaga?
I met her at a shoot Nick Knight was doing. She’s fuckin beautiful, and funny, and interesting. I was a little nervous for Nick to start shooting. She said, “Don’t be baby, you were “born this way.” I took her out after. The rest is private ;)

What do you think of the spread, readers—clever tweaking of gender constructs, or kind of a drag?

It’s a fine idea for a magazine shoot. However, if she decided to record music under the name Jo Calderone, I’d have to strongly advise against that.

    • Fridge

Agree. We really don’t need another Garth Brooks-double identity-near meltdown. I get that she’s different and a perfoming artist, still, that would be taking it just a tad too far.

      • Greg

        SPAM! Go away!

      • Tina from Texas

Hey Greg… Shut up you buttnut!

        Hey Greg… YOU ARE RIGHT!!!

Shui is SPAM!! Shui is SPAM!!

EW: Are you paying attention EW?

      • Maureen

        @Tina from Texas: STFU. ;)

    • Dawn

if Adam Lambert did this he would be black balled! however, because she is a she/he it is ok? “double standards” if you ask me would the AMERICAN MUSIC awards snub her?

    • Marquette

Again, Gaga reminds us that, like Madonna, she too was born a gay man!

  • Matt

She needs to go away for a while, make us miss her, then come back in a couple of years. Lady Gaga overload!

    • WTF?

I disagree. She’s on the top of her game right now. Why would she stop? Jennifer Aniston, on the other hand…..

      • u

She may be on top of her game right now, but she is still bordering overexposure. Beyonce is at the top of her game now too, yet you see how many people are begging her to go away for awhile.

      • amj

I love Lady Gaga but I am completely confused as to why Jennifer Aniston had to be picked on here.

      • Adam

We just really want Jen to take a nice, long vacation. Relax, chill, go to a beach, bring some friends, come back in 6-8 months. We’d love to see you then. But she and EW just really don’t seem to want to take the point.

      • Jeff

        Beyonce S*CKS!

      • Jeff

Jennifer Aniston, Lindsey Lohan and Britany Spears needs to climb to the top of the Empire State Building, set themselves on fire and jump!

      • Calvin

What game is she on top of? Ridiculous!

      • gus

I would rather bang Jennifer Aniston

      • windrider2

ludoc, no one is making you listen to Lady Gaga or read articles about her or anything else. You CHOOSE to listen, and then whine about your discontent. This too is an effect of Lady Gaga’s performance art and you are a manifestation of just how successful she really is.

      • Colbea

Are you kidding? Each WEEK Jennifer Aniston comes out with a new amazing movie Better than the last! She IS the next Meryl Streep!

      • Michelle

I am a female but give me Jen anyday!!! Used to love Gaga but I find her revolting these days!

    • Krissy

Calvin, the game Gaga is on top of is the music game. Her tour is doing exceptionally well in a hideous touring atmosphere. She is the only person to have her videos viewed over a billion times. She has created a new stream of revenue for the music industry with her partnership with Vevo, making those video viewings profitable. She is the only artist to have the #1, #2, and #3 positions on the Billboard Dance charts at the same time. She is the first artist to have 3 titles in the Top 30 of the Billboard charts at the same time since 1993. She is the only artist to have her first 6 singles all hit #1. The list goes on and on if you are paying attention.

      • cas

The reason people go to her concerts is this country’s fasination with the grotesque. It is like looking at an accident.

      • ludoc

Billboard is bull, it doesn’t represent real music and Gaga’s crap that comes bleeding from my speakers makes me sick, like most of whats out there stefani actually has talent vocally but wastes it with artistically immature music, I feel like I’m being spoon fed vomit when I hear her stuff, anyone can be radical and that doesn’t impress me, have rhyme and reason to the chaos more than just catchy tunes and flashy ‘edgy’ content then I’ll be impressed, as of right now more like lady Gag-Gag

      • windrider2

Oh poor ludoc. I guess someone is tying you to your seat and forcing you to listen to Lady Gaga. There’s a simple cure for your angst: if you don’t like her, don’t listen. Problem solved. Otherwise you’re just using her as an excuse to whine.

      • Tom

Lady GaGa would be the wilder crazy blow your mind (among other things) lay, unlike that boring rabbi position jen. Not to mention jen’s are probably saggin pancakes and gaga is young full of energy “fun”. YEE HAW, GIRL I GOT A BRONCO RIDE FOR YOU !

    • @jeff

If Britney were to do that she would still be an icon like Michael Jackson and Elvis.

  • Fridge

This picture, it’s kind of hard to tell. Looks kind of like a young Johnny Depp. If you look at some of the other covers and see the profile, it’s definately Gaga.

  • Journey

Well I already knew that it was indeed our Lady Gaga posing as a male. I like the pics.

    • paige

posing? she’s been posing as a drag queen for her whole career- good to see the real Mr. Gaga

  • dipshat

  • Leondenzel

    PEOPLE. that’s NOT her

    • andrew

are you kidding me? can’t you tell by the boyish body shape, the big nose, and the way she doesnt look at the camera because people will actually realize shes ugly?

      • Lana

I can only imagine what you look like.

      • bobby

Cuz GaGa is a MAN. Always been. People be blowin me wit that stuff.

  • BeBe

That really doesnt look like her…interesting

  • Josh

If it is her, I bet she’s getting a good laugh out of everyone’s reactions. I don’t think it is, though. Not enough of a resemblance.

    • Berlin

That is Lady Gaga, you can look at the photo shoot sessions of the pictures inside, it is deffinately 100% Lady Gaga

  • harry

    • Sam

      Not HOT!! It’s YUCK!!!

  • janiece adonai

and id love to be bffs with gaga she rules

  • Krissy

I think the pictures are really striking! She is good with getting into character, and that is what sets her apart. She is fearless, and not a slave to the female stereotype. I think that is her, and I think the pictures are awesome!

    • windrider2

They really are. Nick Knight really knows how to shoot her beautifully and of course, Nicola knows exactly how to style her for whatever persona she is performing. I’m even more curious about what she will do with this new persona: is it a one-time fashion shoot knock-off or does she have something bigger in mind for “Mr” Calderone. “He’s” a marvelous counterweight to her uber-feminine Lady Gaga persona. I could see her really having a lot of fun with “his” persona if she could free up the time in her schedule to really play with “him”.

  • Ash

wait, this is confusing. is it confirmed that that’s gaga or is it a machanic from italy?

  • brody

Ridiculous interview aside, the pic itself is (for some reason) really outrageously sexy. Maybe it’s the use of shadow?

    • Krissy

So because one person did it back in the 70s, no one can do it? That is so narrow minded. If all artists didn’t do something because it was inspired by someone else or similar to something someone else did…we wouldn’t have art! Nothing is 100% original (with the exception of technology).

      • KiKi

Mediocrity borrows. You can see where she got this “gender bending” idea from right away. No, nothing is 100% original, but putting a NEW spin on it makes you an artist. Sorry. If you can spot the influence at first glance, she is a glorified mimic.

      • Krissy

Kiki, you are really stretching for a put down. She isn’t cross dressing in the same way others have before…Bowie had a much different spin, Grace Jones did, Marlene Deitrich, etc. She doesn’t look like ANY of them in these photos. And your “if you can spot the influence” line is just an exaggeration. Elvis was obviously influenced by black music, but by your logic he would just be a glorified mimmick. Gaga puts her own mark on things for sure, you might just be too jaded to see it.

      • psychoanalyzer

@Krissy Gaga is a glorified mimic of everyone in the industry with bad taste, over-the-top-style, and I-will-stop-at-nothing appetite for fame. Though she does have a good voice, she has brought that tastelessness mainstream, and unfortunately people now see it as original. She’s overexposed and deified in a sinking industry. And I do think Elvis is a glorified mimic, but if I say that aloud I might get shot.

  • mark in nyc

    Gender bending….how 70’s of her.
I am going back to listening to my David Bowie albums now.

    • Josee

      YES Mark! good one :)

      • Dominic

Thank god! Gender bending is so…ordinary. So she’s dressed like a man – wow, so edgy of her! This ‘star’ is about as interesting as a pile of dirt.

  • ashley

just…awesome! I would date that in a heartbeat. you can really tell it’s gaga, though. At a glance.
still great, can’t wait to see more pics.
