This is going to be the most boring VMAs EVER!!!!
Apparently there are supposed to be several surprises planned, and although I’m happy to see Chelsea Handlers hosting, this performance line-up looks pretty bleak (with a few exceptions). Hoping I’m proven wrong!

Well it was boring until Cher came out in her vintage 80s outfit and then Gaga accepted an award from Cher wearing a MEAT dress. OMG. That one takes the cake…or meat. Wow, she handed her Meat purse to Cher. That’s an image.

Why would Britney be there? She’s not promoting any music (or a movie) and she’s not gearing up for another ‘comeback’. More than likely Gaga will be so busy going back and forth on stage with awards she’ll have little time to change and go on stage for a performance. We’ll probably still see some wardrobe changes from her though.
Britney is releasing new music sometime soon. And she’s not in a movie but she is in Glee. So she does have some stuff to promote.

So why is MTV still honoring music vdeos,when they don’t even play them anymore? All it can be is an overly long commercial for their “reality” TV crap and showing why the world doesn’t need any of their psuedo-”stars” like Snooki. MTV should just call itself what it really is…”S#!tTV”
This needs to stop, this isnt a new or original thought, the VMAS are a tradition and people eagerly tune into them, theres no reason to end them.. at all.

A part of me agrees with you. While MTV has declined into mostly crappy reality shows instead of anything concerning music, the complaint has become tired itself.
However, this is an awards show that gives out awards for music videos. It is kind of ridiculous for a network to feature an awards show honoring music videos when music videos are essentially nonexistent on the network. The show made sense back in the 80s and 90s. Now, not so much.
I think what a lot of people want is for MTV to at least dedicate an hour or two a day (and not at 4am) to show some new music videos. Would that really be so hard for the network to do? Are the constant repeats of Jersey Shore and The Hills and stupid shows like Silent Library really all that important? Seriously, just an hour or two a day, maybe around 6 or 7pm (a timeslot on MTV that never features new episodes, just repeats) I think would make a lot of people happy. And it would make sense.
VMA’s a tradition??? The Oscars are a tradition. And they still have relevance. The VMA’s are just another reason for MTV to think they’re KEWL…and to try and relive the past. But the past is just that…the PAST. MTV doesn’t show music videos. So why have a fake awards show to honor them? Oh wait…for the stupid brain-dead assh#oles who thrive on “reality tv” and have to read what every brain-dead psuedo “celebrity post on twitter, and give Perez f’n Hilton a reason to live. They try to stir up any type of “controversy” to make themselves seem important. But all it really is, is another ego-stroke for these “stars” and to go out and party afterwards. Tradition is one thing. Relevance is another. This fake awards show, and poor excuse for a TV channel, have neither.

OMG I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU 100 PERCENT I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING. INSTEAD OF FOCUSING ON THE MTV AND VH1 MUSIC AWARDS THEY ARE WATERING DOWN JERSEY SHORE CLIPS AND CAST MEMBERS DOWN OUR THROATS. I AM SO ANNOYED BY THE CONSTANT JERSEY CLIPS COME ON PEOPLE FOCUS ON THE PERFORMERS NOT A BUNCH OF CELEBRITY WANABE’S WHO HAVE NO TALENT

Agreed. I remember the VMAs in the late 90s were amazing. But, that could just be my age showing, as I’m not into the nominated artists as much as I was back then.

I suppose I should be grateful that I’m in my forties, which means that I grew up watching MTV when it actually played music videos. I remember how exciting it was to see what Michael Jackson, Madonna, and others would come up with next. It was great to come home and be able to turn on the channel and enjoy the songs and the images. I wonder if kids nowadays would buy more music if MTV would go back to its old format. Then again, maybe not.
Did Nicki Minaj actually lip-sync??? Or is it just me?
I personally think Linkin Park will have one of the best performances of the night…
