Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: Who would you nominate for induction this year?

KISS-Rush-The-SmithsImage Credit: Everett Collection; Fin Costello/Redferns/Getty Images; Pete Cronin/Redferns/Getty ImagesYes, it’s that time of year again. On September 28, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will announce the list of nominations for 2011 induction, and countless arguments will erupt over who got nominated and didn’t deserve it, who didn’t get nominated and did deserve it, and what this whole thang we call “rock and roll” means anyway.

But why wait until then? Who do you think should be nominated (remembering that an act must have released its first single or album at least 25 years ago)? The list of eligible acts is a long one and includes T.Rex, Bon Jovi, The Smiths, Rush, Joan Jett, Ice-T, Duran Duran, Beastie Boys, Peter Tosh, Alice Cooper, and last year’s unsuccessful nominees KISS, Donna Summer, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Personally, if I had any say in the matter, I’d nominate cult British folkies Fairport Convention. But, hey, maybe that’s one of the reasons I don’t have a say in the matter.

What about you?

kiss long over due? there are, is, and were better acts then Kiss. i dont care what the Army say kiss would not have exsisted without alice cooper along with many others including Metallica who is already in to metallicas own admistion when inducted. kiss? kiss can wait in line and make way for far more bands who are far more worthy! they deserve it but not yet..metallica could have waited also…and i like metallica. david bowie isn’t in yet also!

ALICE F’N COOPER!!! He should be in WAAAAAAAAY before sell-outs like Kiss (my a$$)!!! Alice is still performing at the top of his game, and has never told his fans he’s retiring, only to go on a 5 year “retirement…last time to see us…we won’t make another record” tour, only to come back and sell-out more that ever! Again…ALICE COOPER NEEDS TO BE IN THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME!!!

    • Isa Berndt

      I agree!!

    • syckle

i don’t care if its Alice the band or Alice the man, should be both though, if pretenders like kiss gets in first i agree with what Alice said in 2003 F@#$ em! they dont deserve him

Donna Summer – the only artist ever to have 3-double Albums go platnum. She won grammies in pop, rock, dance, and gospel. This woman epitomized the late ’70s (love it or hate it) and certainly deserves the honor.

no matter what one thinks about disco…the early music of Donna Summer (though technically Giorgio Moroder), especially “I Feel Love” was important to not only some of the new wave electronic bands of the 1980’s, but also for the electronica/techno music scene that developed later

If I had a vote, the class of 2011 would consist of: Rush, Bon Jovi, The Beastie Boys & KISS. That would be a class to remember.

    • Robert

Bon Jovi should be in! he was in a group then went solo now crossed over to country why not give the man his dews?

  • jon

The cure, it’s a shame they are not in. Red hot chili peppers before the cure? Hell no.

    • S.O.

If The Cure get in, Depeche Mode & The Smiths should also be in. All 3 are in inseparable.

      • John R.

Add New Order to that list.

      • John R.

In a way, they are already in. There is a small exhibit of memorbilia from Joy Division/New Order in the HOF Museum right now.

  • Rumplestiltskin

Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi, Kiss and Joan Jett.

  • Topaz

Johnny Maestro ~ As the lead singer of The Crests (16 Candles in 1958), his group was one of the first interracial groups in rock & roll. They were true rock pioneers and paved the way for future groups. Ten years later, he fronted The Brooklyn Bridge (Worst That Could Happen), the first jazz/rock group. Forty-two years later, his voice remained strong and vibrant, and he did his final concert with The Brooklyn Bridge just two months before his death in March 2010.

    • Music Buzz

Both The Crests and The Brooklyn Bridge are in the Vocal Group Hall of Fame

  • DJ

Why is so-called arena rock always ignored? Styx, Rush, Journey, etc always get shafted. Apparently, selling millions of albums and selling out arenas for years means nothing.

    • ann

its like blockbusters at the oscars- those voting tend to see broad appeal as not being “innovative” enough. stupid? yes. but hopefully they’ll one day see sense

    • Music Buzz

Rock is essentially about sticking it to the man, not lining his pockets…that’s why arena rock is ignored

    • Dan

Agreed. There are those who kick down the doors of the palace and those who come running in later to scoop up the treasure. Styx, Journey, Kiss, Rush, Bon Jovi etc. were/ are simply treasure scoopers.
