When last we saw the Apples in Stereo, the psychedelic pop wizards were having a blast with their good pal (and label chief) Elijah Wood on a futuristic “Dance Floor.” The band’s brand new music video for “Told You Once” does not feature any such celebrity cameos, but it makes up for it with all sorts of delightfully cheesy special effects. And we’re pleased to premiere the “Told You Once” clip exclusively right here at the Music Mix.
The video stars Apples founder Robert Schneider and keyboardist John Ferguson, surely two of the most effusively enthusiastic fellows in all of indie rock. Musician/filmmaker Jeremy Midkiff shot the whole thing using the free green screen facilities at the Lexington, Kentucky public library, according to the band’s reps. As for “Told You Once,” it’s one of the catchiest tunes on Travellers in Space and Time, the Apples’ excellent album from this spring. Think the Beatles’ “You’re Going to Lose That Girl” as covered by ELO in the thirty-first century.
