Toby Keith tops Billboard 200 albums chart

Country singer Toby Keith tops the Billboard 200 albums chart with his Bullets in the Gun, selling 71,000. Kenny Chesney’s Hemingway’s Whiskey, last week’s chart-topper, falls to No. 2 with 65,000. Bruno MarsDoo-Wops & Hooligans enters at No. 3 with 55,000. With its lead single, “Just the Way You Are,” spending three weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and download popularity nearing double platinum status, this is a bit disappointing opening week for him. You’d think that with millions all over the country humming his tunes, at least 10-15% of them would support his album.

Waka Flocka Flame’s debut album Flockaveli comes in at No. 6 with 37,000 copies sold. Eminem‘s Recovery moves up a spot to No. 4, moving 52,000 units sold. Zac Brown Band’s You Get What You Give drops two places to No. 5 with 43,000 albums sold. While Linkin Park’s A Thousand Suns sold 37,000 and jumps up one place to No. 7. Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream shoots up from No. 18 to No. 8, selling 32,000 copies. Moving 32,000 album’s Trey Songz’s Passion, Pain & Pleasure falls two spots to No. 9.  Selena Gomez & the Scene’s A Year Without Rain remains at No. 10 with 27, 000 sets sold.

71,000 hillbilly rednecks. The fat bastard is #1, but that is nothing to brag about.
That is like bragging about winning a race by a few seconds, except the other racers are handicapped.

      America loves crap.

      • Jamie

Yep. How else do you explain the popularity of Jersey Shore, Lady Ga Ga, Glee, Reality Shows, etc …

      • Yep, every American is exactly the same. There’s no such thing as individuality, varied tastes, or anything zany like that. Idiot.

  • bill

Dang no one is buying albums anymore LOL. Heck if you are a millionaire and you manage an upcoming artist…you can actually buy all his albums and make it No. 1 LOL.

I STILL buy albums! I NEVER download for this one particular song (the norm these days), I like to hear the WHOLE album! Always have despite the declines in record buying these days.

    Slow music week?

    • Preston

No, a lot of the big names want to put their album out on Nov. 22nd on Thanksgiving week. Ne-Yo was going to put his album on Oct. 5th, but he pushed it to see if he can sell some units that week. That takes some of the excitement out of the Oct. weeks, which are really slow weeks to start with.

71K tops the album chart? eeeehhhhh

  • cookiemac

Intresting that of the top five, three of them are country albums.

I’ve noticed that the morning shows like Good Morning America like to have the country artists perform on there. It’s happened a lot the past 3 to 4 weeks. Maybe their staff is comfortable with hearing that kind of music than an overly slick commercial pop artist like Katy Perry. Kenny Chesney always likes to put his albums out in Sept. or Oct. and they do quite well. Toby Keith does as well.

Being a redneck is alive and well in America.

guys buy bruno’s mars…anway 55,000 is not bad, he is a new artist guys, lady gaga just opened with 24,000 and now is six times platinum.

    • Preston

A lot of new artists with a big hit single start slow the first week with their album, then jump to 2 million some 6 months to a year later. I remember when Lady Gaga started slow and no one was ready at the time, but she just built up in momentum in 6 to 12 months with her The Fame album and the hit singles. It’ll happen with Bruno Mars if he gets the right singles out.

Who…? never heard of him. Must be a country singer. booo

71,000 is now the record breaking sum to debut at number one. So sad. But then again, I can see why. There is nothing worth buying these days except for a few ADULT R&B artists like Donell Jones, Faith Evans (people who can SING without auto-tune.)

    • Preston

Thanks for giving Faith Evans her props as well as Donnell Jones! I love Faith’s new album! She can be SINGING it on there! I have yet to get Donnell’s new album, but I plan too this month.

  • Molly

ouch. that sucks that the music industry is doing so poorly. I guess it’ll pick itself again around holiday time.

  • S.O.

Kings of Leon will debut next week at #1 (or close) & will sell a heck of A LOT more than 71K.

  • Preston

I think the cocaine charge that Bruno Mars turned off some people from buying his first album. If he would have stayed clean while his song raced to No. 1, he would have had sold over 100,000 that week of his album.

    • Chris

You really don’t know his target audience. I doubt they care about drug charges.

  • obama!!!!!

I love Bruno Mars music. It’s a shame that no one is buying his albums. I downloaded it last night via Limewire. It’s pretty good. I’m glad I brought it.

  • Tammy C

Well, Toby is by far the best!!!!!!!! See him 4 or 5 times a year and he’s incredible!

  • MrunoBars

I don’t even like country music myself, but the majority of these comments are so ignorant. Why so judgemental about fans of a certain genre of music? Being intolerant is alive and well in America! Oh, people who listen to hip-hop are thugs who are going to kill us all.
