Neither of them hails from the Bay Area, but perhaps they were splitting the difference? Death Cab for Cutie frontman Gibbard grew up in Bremerton, Washington, and Deschanel is a native Los Angeleno. Watch him sing the National Anthem in a jaunty blazer after the jump, and Zooey warble “God Bless America”:

I like both artists but when Death Cab for Cutie sang “Take me out to the Ballgame” for the Seattle Mariners pregame festivities, the team had their worst season ever by losing 101 games. Better hope they don’t jinx the Giants too.
