Glee‘s resident bad boy Noah “Puck” Puckerman is currently serving time in juvie after driving his mom’s car into a convenience store and running off with the ATM (is this how kids pass the time in Ohio?), but his absence is probably better explained by the fact that Mark Salling is about to release his solo album, Pipe Dreams. We’ve got a look at the magic eye-esque music video for his single “Illusions,” which tries to pass off the “illusion” that Salling is just another aspiring singer who moonlights as a valet. Silly music video, we know what his real job is! (See video embedded after the jump.)Puck has made many a female glee club member swoon with his acoustic guitar-assisted crooning on songs like “Sweet Caroline,” “Over the Rainbow,” and “Only The Good Die Young,” but Salling’s single doesn’t have the same kind of charm. The initial vocals reminded me of “The Remedy” by Jason Mraz, albeit with a much less catchy chorus, and the story is visually confusing; I thought I had stumbled upon a warped clip after the extended bouts of slow-moving, colorful images, which were really more snoozy than trippy. (They also made me feel like I need to get my eyes checked.) Let us know if you’re digging Salling’s solo music, or if you prefer his Glee covers.
I give it an “M” for “Meh.” I expected more from McKinley’s hunkiest athlete/singer/pool-cleaning entrepreneur, and not that we endorse gratuitous skin at EW, but a wife beater or two would have better held my interest for 3:33. Gleeks: Should Salling stick to his day job?

i love him
Actually, it reminds me of Maroon 5 or Gossip, I don’t know. Sounds really indie. He will probably snag some fans.
The thing is that Mark Salling has so much going for him. He’s good looking. He can play his own music. He has a great singing voice. He’s just not a song-writer. If he had someone else writing him good songs, there wouldn’t be any issues. Let’s just hope he figures this out.
I was about to ask if he writes his own stuff. So this song is by him? Will his whole album be songs written by him?
Who gives a SH!T about this. Total throwaway.
Lol Larry you are effing AWESOME!
Is this serious? eeek.
That’s really bad……..
I’m sorry, he’s great as Puck, but this music endeavor is TERRIBLE. The first single was a disaster, and this new track is no better!
yuck.
Blarg…this is like some weird hybrid between Jason Mraz, John Mayer and some other soft rock lamoid. He should stick to Puck and covers for now and then release an album when he’s figured his own sound out a little better. The video’s lame.
No Emily, kids in Ohio don’t all smash ATMs, aren’t homophobic, actually have an appreciation for the arts, didn’t all burn LeBron James jerseys, and aren’t as unsophisticated as they’ve been portrayed on Glee.
Chill.
And we’ve met the least fun person on the internet.
No, that’s Larry David.
it must be hard being the only group of people lampooned on glee.
Calm down, Elizabeth. It’s just a joke. You sound upset enough to crash your car into a convenience store.
What the heck???? I’m confused…is this supposed to be an homepage to 1970′s funk/pop? Everything but his outfit suggests we’re on some kind of psychadelic trip. I mean, from the rifs and the overall sound of the song to gold background…and what’s with eye illusions? Did they need filler because they ran out of money to finish filming? I really like Marc on Glee but this is very disappointing.
ew! this doesn’t sound good. much prefer his glee covers
He should fire who ever did his video.
Boo.
All while listening to this, I kept hearing Chris Gaines in my head. (GB)
Wow, there is nothing about this that’s good. The song is terrible, his voice is weak, and the video is awful.
Yet another Glee article. And yet they dare to ask in another if this show is over-exposed. Duh!
Not good.
